Whats up with the consequences of childbirth? Isn't having to be pregnant and give birth ENOUGH?? We have to get stretch marks and saggy breasts too? My husband stops drinking beer for 3 weeks and he has his boyish figure back. Cut us girls a break!!

Welcome to the board. I too am a former JW *unbaptised, who thereafter joined the LDS church. While I have since left, I have to tell you, I would rejoin in a minute if I didn't feel like a hypocrite for not having a testimony. What a nice bunch of folks. And all the things the JWs tell you about the world are constantly disproved in a LDS ward, don't you think? Just lots of nice people, imperfect, but most trying to do the right thing for their families and neigbors. Only I think the entire church is much warmer and fuzzier than the WTBTS, don't you? Much kinder in actual practice-welfare and education and all that. (BYU has an awesome collection of old WT literature, BTW!) And while I don't believe all the teachings, and they know that, I was never shunned or hurt by any of them when I left. Although at a funeral for a friend, my old bishop Davis looked over at me kind of sad a few times. I felt bad about that.
I am not a ex-mormon like some here are EX JWs (I am one of those). I have no inclinations to tell the world why I disagree. I actually kind of wish I did agree, but I just don't. I miss hearing "I am a child of God" though! Sweet little kids.
Shelly (who has been there and done that!)

Hi, p>Has anyone here ever had a JW friend or relative who was angry later that at a critical time people respected there blood directive? My mom is going into surgery for a large hernia repair next week. Of course she has a no blood directive(the hardcore version), and I have agreed to respect it (although I can't vouch for my siblings). In any case, I am, for some reason, more anxious about this surgery than some of the others she has had (probably other family health things going on that is making me anxious).
In any case, I am thinking the other day-I wonder how strong her faith really is? What if she had a problem and they told me she should really have a transfusion and I refuse because of her stated wishes? Then she barely squeaks by and is later mad at me for not trying to save her life(she is very focused on what us kids will inherit, and she mentioned to me the other day that I shouldn't feel guilty about planning on how to spend my inheritance when she is dead!!!). I am halfway convinced now that she thinks we all have it in for her or something-because her life insurance is paid up or something.
Any experiences?

Did anyone see or do a random act of kindness today?
by okie46 intoday while unloading my groceries, i witnessed a random act of kindness... someone in a ford explorer was waiting for a car to leave a parking spot so they could pull in there, they had been waiting for several minutes when finally the car in that spot backed out and left.
before the person in the ford explorer could pull into the spot, a lady in a ford taurus pulled on into that parking space.
the person in the ford explorer who had been patiently waiting, just sat there, they didn't honk or flip the person off, then the lady in the ford taurus realized that the other vehicle had been waiting for that spot and backed out to find another spot, letting the guy who had been waiting have his spot.

Today, my husband broke up a fight some teenagers were having in front of our house. He is very uninvolved usually, so I was impressed that he did it, and at some risk to himself too! Police were eventually called when the kids kept coming back at each other.
I took a lady's shopping cart in to the store for her. Bought some school supplies for a needy kid. Thats all I got.

Worst Thing Youve Done In A Meeting?
by chuckie77 inwhats the worst thing youve done during a meeting?
years ago, when i was a bit more wicked/naughty/younger than i am now, i thought i would take some drugs just prior to the meeting to see if it would make things any more interesting.
it didnt, but at least i enjoyed the kingdom melodies tapping my foot to the beat and bopping my head!!

Wow, I think this is my favorite thread ever.:) The worst thing I ever did was actually ANSWER a question with my own authentic thoughts. I was a young adolescent at the time.
My mom remembers me thumbing my nose at someone-I must have been preschool age-cause I sure don't remember it.
My brother went to the bathroom to get some tissue for my baby sister, and since our family used TP because Kleenex was too expensive. . .he came out of the bathroom with one end of a roll of toilet paper. The other end was still apparently attached to the roll. You know, HE never had to go to meetings past the age of 6, so I bet he did some better stuff than that. I think I will take the opp. of a long drive with my mom that I am doing on Sat. to get some dirt on all that-he must have done something GOOD to not be forced to the KH.

Is it possible to go to university and still come out a dub?
by Crumpet inthe reason i ask is that my best friend all the time i was growing up was a boy about 5 years older than i was.
his parents were at lot less strict than mine and as he was super brainy after he finished public school and sixth form he went off to one of the country's finest universities.
the only thing that bugs me now about this is that i know he was incredibly clever - how could he go to uni and still be a dub?

One of the things I learned in college was how to argue, how to make a case for something you don't believe in, how to debate on a subject exactly opposite to your convictions. Its like switching between the progressive(liberal) and conservative radio stations. After a while, it is all a bunch of meaningless twaddle. If you wish to ignore something you learn, its easy enough to do so. We do it all the time when listening to people arguing different subjects. You can see some of the other guys point, and like some of what that guy says but when it comes down to it, it is pretty monumental when you really change your opinion about something you believe strongly in, for whatever reason.
I have always been kind of conservative politically, even before I met my husband(at college). However, he is such a right wing, over the top conservative that he makes Rush L. look kind of liberal. His very ridiculousness is what is sending me leftwards, because its making me look again at things. I have been married 15 years now-but after a while, stuff gets to you! The university thing may not work instantly, but I imagine it has some long range consequences to those who attend.

What disfellowshippable offenses have you done for the day?
by ColdRedRain intoday, as i celebrated the last day in the first half of my 20's, i started doing all sorts of sinful things.
i have done the following disfellowshippable offenses i've smoked weed, i've been on an unchaperoned date (with the most wonderful person in the world, my beautiful and still charming ex girlfriend), i've gotten drunk, talked to a disfellowshipped person, and to boot, i'm on an apostate site.

Was just looking at this thread again and I feel so healed! Because when I first started my post, I was thinking-hey, other than being on this thread I am fine! Even to a JW-nothing to say about me. Then I remembered that BIRTHDAYS are a bad thing. . .and I had to correct the original statement. But the fact that I am SO out of the org that I didn't even twinge any guilt, not even a whisper of it AWES me beyond what you might understand. My last childhood BD was when I was 8. I think Christmas was 7. Then nothing till I was nearly an adult. I had some serious indoctrination happening-I was in the org from when I was born (mid 60's) until the early 80's. I remember some STUFF!
Bless all of you who are cool with blowing it off on a regular basis-I am still amazed at how normal I actually am somedays (although my teenagers would argue that)
