  Did I miss my opportunity?

  im a long time witness but the last district convention with all of it's "don't think for yourself" propoganda led me to this board.

  lately i've been trying to formulate a plan, to try and reason with her and get us both out (although her whole family is in, and probably will be till death)

  my wife has at times been dissilussioned with the org, but, ironically, i'm usually the one to comfort her and tell her to wait on jehovah.

  I like your family-you both think and reason for yourselves. I wish that you were both people in my circle of JW aquaintance-haven't been any adult escapees in years. You will have other, better opportunities. I hope that you can take advantage of a real opportunity, like WT perfidy or bad teachings, rather than an obnoxious congregation member. When you both leave, you don't want the final straw to have been "Brother Jerk didn't like my tie" or "Sister Gossip is so mean to those poor kids". Know what I mean? I wish you both well. Looks like you are on the way. It may be hard breaking it off, but there are lots of great suggestions for people with families-so that you can keep them and escape the Borg.

  How did you feel, when you missed your 1st Memorial?

  i remember going to each memorial even when i was inactive.

  i felt that i had to go to atleast that meeting.. then one year, i was sick on that day, and didn't go to the memorial.

  it was a funny feeling to miss the most important day of the year, as a jw would call it.. but i got used to it, when i missed my 2nd and 3rd memorial..

  I don't remember the first memorial I missed-I really didn't care anymore.

  I do remember the first memorial I made my Mom miss though. This last one (2006) was on the day we returned from a cruise. She got home several hours too late to go. OOPS. :) Not like she missed anything really-same talk, same NOT eating the passover meal. Whats the purpose. Passover is a good name for it when applied to Dubs, huh?

  My husband will be so jealous. The only PF song I really remember was the "Education" song that we roller skated to when I was a kid(Sunday nites with the other kids from the hall-good times!)

  My cousin comitted suicide. He had been raised in a very dysfunctional JW home(his dad is the one with 3 ex wives). He had not been part of the org for a few years and had other issues troubling him. I know that his family was not the kind he could come to for any kind of emotional help, as he would simply be told to go back to the hall to get himself 'thinking right'. Its sad, he was a beautiful good hearted person who got in too deep. Both his full siblings have mental issues-severe ones.

  To Burntheships:Why did they wire the money? Don't they (WTS) trust checks from their 'brothers'? It only takes a few days at most from anywhere in the US and not a lot longer from other parts of the world to receive a letter.

  SPOCK, he is so very logical. Unfortunately I married a man who is so SERIOUS about Star Trek that he took the fun out of it. He hates that Shatner has done anything other than Kirk, hates that he(Shatner) mocks his role, hates that he plays a sleezy lawyer on tv(refuses to watch him in anything but Star Trek) Walks out of the room during priceline commercials. The man is just short of putting on a uniform, but only cause it would be kind of FUN.

  this is a story from when i was away from the board for awhile..... my business partner took everything..there i was in the middle of nowhere,and my internet had just been cut off.

  the very next day,2 jw ladys show up on my door step(jehovah does provide!)..lol!

  !..one look at these two and i knew they were dubs.

  Hardships and Assemblies

  i just left a post on the "pa convention" thread concerning some of the hardships and difficulties that jws had to (or some here still have to?

  ) endure just to either get to a convention or what they go through after getting to the convention.. having to trot around from designated doors to the restrooms (rather than being ordered to use the door they told you to) no matter where your family was sitting..... or having you and your family have to climb way too many stairs on the last upper tier to find seats.....while plenty of empty seats remained on the ground floor that were never used that whole day?.

  or the designated wts-regulation-sized cooler you had to lug into the stadium because you weren't allowed to leave the site to get a snack or a drink?.

  I went to one assembly, more in curiosity than anything, once my son was a little toddler. Well, I went for a very short period of time to one assembly. . .I enjoyed them when I was a kid(except for the sitting down and listening part)helping out in the kitchen, going to the restroom during talks (no lines-gotta go NOW, mom!)seeing Michael Jackson entourage(really)watching the goofy dramas, wondering if I would ever get baptised(maybe after I lose some weight. . .)I was 15 during the last assembly I went to as a JW, and I was talking back to the speakers(mentally) at that point. New clothes were fun though. . . Back to going there with a toddler-they still had food back then, and I wasn't a bookbag carrying witness, but it was still a nightmare. The seats at the Tacoma Dome were nightmarish, all those stairs with a 18 mo. old was scary and NOT ONE person offered to help with him. I was obviously alone with him and got no greetings, no hello's and only one person spoke to me. Said I should take my little boy and sit down because I had been walking around so much. Uh huh, so I took my baby and we went to my car, I sat us down and I drove away.

  evolution or creation? lets talk...

  ok, lets have a discussion about where we all came from, evolution or creation?

  (or whatever you beleive in of course) every one put down there main reasons, along with reasonable facts and backup as to why.. .

  hopefully this doesnt start to many arguments, lol.. .

  I believe in creation, but I don't know that creation wasn't done in a way that supports the evolution theory to some extent. I wouldn't ever be offended by someone elses ideas on the subject now, cause I figure if God cared, he could have made it all very clear somewhere. . .and he didn't. I love the world and universe that we are blessed with-however it got here.
