I think once you put your money in the donation box, it is theirs. Donate to any church, later leave, and you have no stake in the property. Thats just how it works. What happens when an independant church disbands, I wonder?

Should't we own a part of the Kingdom Hall?
by JH inafterall, most of us spent years there.
many of us took our time and money to build the hall.
many of us renovated the hall afterwards.. shouldn't the halls belong to the ones who built it and put money into it and who go there regularly?.

The rumors of the big announcement had their origins with CT Russell. So there is truly nothing new under the sun!

Great news Re:violent abusive jw family
by ania ini'm ecstatic have received great news regarding my father: 1) it seems the information that he had been approved as a caregiver for barnardos was actualy incorrect he has never worked for them (sorry for that mis-information) .
however he had been working for cypf (newzealand children, young persons and their families service) and did have one boy in his care for more than a year.
2) my post regarding the abuse he inflicted on myself and family here: (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/120383/1.ashx) has been noted by the authorities and they now have a copy of this in thier records (under his name) .

Be honest, tell him why you are hesitating and the deal you would agree to. Don't let him off on the gas issue though, let him pitch in. Good for his soul. If he isn't willing to make an effort, he would be a jerk of a passenger anyway. And encourage him to find a closer place to live/car.

Did I miss my opportunity?
by StillGroggy inim a long time witness but the last district convention with all of it's "don't think for yourself" propoganda led me to this board.
lately i've been trying to formulate a plan, to try and reason with her and get us both out (although her whole family is in, and probably will be till death)
my wife has at times been dissilussioned with the org, but, ironically, i'm usually the one to comfort her and tell her to wait on jehovah.

The slander/gossip issues are easy, but ultimately they are very human and trivial-though they are important to lives in their own way.
I understand how hard this is for you (and your wife). She is a 'good' JW, sticking with it though she has doubts, but because she is so 'good', you can use it to her advantage. She looks to you as the head of the household. When she has a serious question, give it space to grow, fertilize it, encourage her to speak of her feelings on the subject. Of course, if necessary, assure her that it is between both of you, as a married couple, and it will never be spoken of to anyone in your congregation or to the WT org. Let her be very safe with her true feelings, doubts and also the things she feels convicted of. Give her the room to be honest and SAFE. Be honest back at her about the things she shares with that you agree with. Expand on them. You are blessed that both of you are moving in the same direction. . .you may be a couple of steps ahead of her, or she may be a poster online here-ya just never know!
I have had some issues with conscience. What is a bible trained conscience if the WT has to tell you what it IS? You read the Bible, you get your OWN conscience. The WT telling you something is not you being convicted, it is you becoming a parrot. I'm glad you get that-someone asked about JW things that drove us nuts, and that was at the top of my list. Grrr.
When you are both honest at least to each other, it will feel like a huge sack of coal is off your backs. Happy day to you!

Why all the secrecy?
by joe_black inrecently, my fleshly brother, who thinks he's a jw(apologist), handed my somewhat naive wife the tract "the end of false religion is near".....he was being somewhat covert she told me.
he told her don't tell anyone where she got it from, not to tell even me (which she did)...why all the secrecy?
he was acting like he was handing over some secret documents or something, this is nothing new.

Isn't any information more intriguing if you are told to keep it secret? More likely to be read?

Is there Racial harmony among the JWs?
by Amazing inwhen i joined the jws, racial issues were not really discussed much, other than some mention in the material given to me during my bible study in the "truth" book.
our kingdom hall had only one dark skinned individual, who is portguese, and one of the anointed.
i believe that he is now deceased.

Historicly stupid statements notwithstanding, I think that most of the attitudes toward race in the WT organization are more locally based than tower directed. Local culture will more likely define these things than corporate. I could be wrong. There were very rare black JWs in my cong. No black elders/MS. One older black man with exemplary family-I don't know why he wan't an elder, but he rarely commented either, so maybe he just was too shy. When I lived in the East, there were a lot more black families in general, and I real friendships between races. Probably more overtly bad attitudes though, at the same time. I guess it is individual. But it does show that being a JW doesn't nec. change anyones core belief system.

Hello, it was sad to read that you had lost a friend, but kind of wonderful that he lived such a life that brought him success and good friends who lament the loss of this good man.
Shelly, who will hug her kids a little extra tonite in Wes' honor.

I saw this article about them. Interesting boys. Heard the song-my teenage daughter didn't like it nor did I, much, but I wish them well, I think they are up for some hell in the next few months. Kind of hard for them to 'fade'.
