If they do, its because they were told that all OTHER religion is false, and then they find out the one they thought was TRUE is actually another lie. What else COULD such a person do?

Were you accused of starting your own RELIGION?
by Amazing inmouthy said that she was accused of this ... and i remembered that i too was accused of starting my own church.
supposedly, i went up and down the west coast, gathering up followers, and then secured a church building in the seattle area.
the book, crisis of conscience, mentioned that allegations were made against some bethelites who supposedly secured a meeting location, and started a religion known as 'sons of freedom' or 'sons of liberty.

Jack Black is a hoot. In the best way. That wasn't my fave movie, but all of his seem to be fun. Gotta love the guy! Jack Black, not NL, reminds me of someone I once knew too-more attitude and style than actual expression and physique.

What would be something you'd like from secret santa?
by megsmomma ini am already thinking of ideas.
my sister had an online relationship with a man from holland (they are now married in the us) anyhow, they would send eachother packages and the coolest things he would send was different foods from there... cookies the us doesn't have, chocolate spread for toast.... this is my first gift exchange since i was a kid, so anyone have some ideas?
( is this kosher to ask?

First of all, I want to have a foreign giftee. I don't care bout international postage rates-I would love to share with someone in Scotland or Ireland or NZ.
I would like something that is somehow representative of the person sending it-something they love and think is special (a picture, a poem, a song, book) That way I get to know my secret santa a little better. Personally, I like beautiful fabric(little bits for projects) and books. I like little quilting kits. So if what they love coincided with things I enjoy in some way, it would be cool. A melding kind of thing. Considering last year my 'big' gift was a nice warm flannel nightie, I am pretty easy:)

Silencing former Jehovah's Witnesses

The WT has this to say on its own site: "Internal Squabbles
While some religions are at war with one another, others are beset by internal squabbles. For instance, in recent years the churches of Christendom have been split by ongoing debates on matters of doctrine. Clergy and laity alike ask: Is birth control permitted? What about abortion? Should women be ordained as priests? How ought the church to view homosexuality? Should a religion sanction war? In view of such disunity, many wonder, ‘How can a religion unite mankind if it cannot unite even its own members?’
Clearly, religion in general has failed to be a force for unity. But are all religions marked by divisions? Is there a religion that is different—one that can unite mankind?"
Easy for them to say-the minute someone 'squables' they are kicked out! Silencing the dissenters is very effective in eliminating internal squabbling.
OK, I really love the word 'squabble'. Looks funny, sounds funny, IS funny. (I am trying to quickly work out of my bad mood as in a half hour I need to be room mom at the not halloween party.)

I like Warlocks, except: Dear Janitor Dave,
Thank you for the apology.
Now, let me see if I have your motivations straight. You moved the van (my insert-from a legal parking place) so it would NOT get a ticket, to a place where it was SURE to get a ticket, AND possibly a tow?
(again, my insertion-Then you quickly repainted the parking space-after I had photographed it-to make it an illegal place to park.)
That's why you're the janitor.
Love, Butt
What a doofus! And a half assed apology. Make more trouble for the jerk. (In a bad mood today, can you tell?)

Holiday Viewpoints and Former Jehovah's Witnesses

I'm glad to see the Wanderer has wandered back.
My thought is that most everything one way or another has 'pagan' origins or associations. Even the Christian story does. Every Jewish festival does. As was pointed out on another thread, Christians glorify death themselves. And certainly the Angels celebrated Christs birth, honoring a person who gives their life or means to help others is not a bad thing(funerals, anniversaries are celebrations of the accomplishments of men). If you don't step on cracks because you like nice smooth sidewalks can you be accused of superstition because some won't-thinking that if they do that they will break their mothers back? Stupid analogy, right? Well that is how stupid it is to me to say that celebrating something or enjoying it for the reasons WE do should be condemned because of the reason that non-christians may have done it hundreds of years ago. Unless I start WORSHIPPING the tree, an egg, pumpkin, others, etc, then my activities are NOT worship or honoring a pagan god. And neither are yours. God has better things to do than obsess with this crap, and HE is eternal.

i even voted in our primary (nonpartisan issues only at this point--i'm still finding my "center.

Have you ever had an encounter with a UFO?
by free2beme inwhen i was about 16 years old, a group of us friends would go hiking a lot on the weekend.
we would rough it to some degree, just a sleeping back and sleeping under the stars.
one night, while hiking into a lake in northern california, we all were sleeping in a clearing just out of legal distance from a small mountain lake we liked to fish in.

I don't have strong feelings that there are UFO's. I kind of wish there were, but I doubt it. It would be fun though.
My feeling is if our government can't keep quiet that the vice-pres. nearly killed a man, or that a senator was messing with teenage boys,or military guys killed an innocent, then perhaps it isn't capable of the secrecy and discretion necessary to keep us from discovering any UFOs that they are aware of. I don't think the govt. is capable of such massive secret keeping. They can't even keep people in the witness protection program very effectively, from what I understand. Doubt they could keep an alien out of public eye for more than 3 days. Unless, of course, they hired Tom Cruises security team.
