I wanted to meet Ray F. from the time I saw the article in Time (?) Magazine in the early 80's. I don't remember what came first, me leaving or him announcing his departure to the world. I remember reading the article in the school cafeteria, I could even tell you the table I read it at, and the way it looked on the page. I respect him a great deal. While I imagine we would not agree on everything, he stood up for his convictions, and I always respect people who have integrity and live by it. I think that is why I like this board. A lot of people, with different beliefs, ideas and lives-but you are all taking a road that is harder for all that it is the more honest and decent road to take. Not everyone is in the same place, but the reasons you are where you are-are because you know it is what you should be doing at this time-or you are working to change it. Progress is honorable.

mary said: I actually spoke to a Professor of Law about formal church shunning and our Rights under the Canadian Constitution. He said it's a "tricky" situation that the government doesn't want to get involved with at least for now because then it's a matter of dictating to a church who they have to accept and who they don't have to accept. And because the Witnesses are amongst the very, very few religions who teach such an extreme form of shunning and don't vote anyway, why should the government get involved?
It is kind of funny, while JWs WON'T vote, most EX JW's have no such compunctions. The gov't can't lose except for that pesky issue of 'freedom of religion'. However, they actually infringe on the rights of others to worship(or not) freely by their religious teachings when it forces people who wish to maintain normal family ties to attend a church they have no wish to be involved in. Isn't there some kind of crime involved there? In the US we are not supposed to be threatened in any way that forces us to attend a church. Doesn't the WT in a de facto way do exactly that?

It is a very sad irony that the child who probably was the most loving and eager to please child (hence, she was the only one baptised) is the one that is rejected. I think that after a certain point, parents should lose the priveledge of calling themselves parents. The only thing I knew EVER about my kids before they were born until today, is that I will love them NO MATTER WHAT and will never reject them.

Go back to your old church and see how you feel. I went back to the KH to see if I had left for the right reason, and all the icky feelings remained. I have also gone back to LDS church/meetings a couple of times, and remembered why I felt at home there. We all have a different comfort zone, why not go somewhere that you remember feeling good about?

I am SO a Desperado. . .All the ladies at my office enjoy it-and we are all very diverse in other ways. This is our Monday morning bonding agent. I do have a dilemma, as Rachel Ray is on Iron Chef on Sunday at 9pm. I don't have tivo and have no idea how to record videos anymore(all our connections are complicated, and you can't just push 'tape' anymore)
I will miss Carolyn, but not the 'baby's momma'. They messed up by killing off Carolyn Biggsby, but I will get over it:)

Why would this even cross my mind?!?!?!?!
by Juniper inwell, after 10 years of being together, hubby has decided that he's found his 'soul mate' (the second time this year, neither of which was me) and is moving out.. i'm thirty years old and no kids, thanks to the fact that i spent 12 years in full time service telling everyone it's better to wait until the 'new system' for raising a family.
that's all beside the point - and perhaps better suited for my counselor.
:) anyway, the thought that keeps going through my mind is "this never would have happened if i didn't leave" and "how am i going to find someone to spend my life with at this age and who will understand me the way an ex-jw can"???

I am so sorry that you are going through this pain right now. You have so many advantages in this in that you haven't had the kids YET, you are getting rid of an obviously unsuitable man and you are young, smart and able to go on. You can re-invent yourself in any way that suits YOU(or stay the same sweet person you are), find all the things YOU want to do, and then find a person (or NOT, your choice) that likes all of you for all that you are. This guy seems to have a history of unstability (2x in one year!)JWs are NOT a good fallback choice-look at the relationships that you read about here, the ones you saw personally and possibly still know of. The fact that you are not ever going to believe that nonsense dooms any marriage to a JW, even if he is truly a nice, good man. Thats not fair to either of you. Wipe the dust off your feet, and journey to a better place-its a good thing for you to do now. Shelly

It broke my heart to see the agonies that we know exist too much already multiplied by such numbers as to make one weep. I have seen things that would break your heart, and some of them as bad as anything you pictured-but I was not in a community filled with the expectation and reality of it happening to so many. The sheer volume of what is happening there is heartbreaking. I was thinking that the little girl at the end-who died-had it much better than some who yet live-with the tumors, the cancer, the mental and physical disabilities that cannot be overcome-no matter how much we would wish or work for them to be. It is some comfort that we live in a 'safer' kind of place, but the reality is that we are only as 'safe' as the people in charge make it to be. THAT is scary.
