Get ready for phone calls from Elders either this week or when the next CO visit happens.
by EndofMysteries ini got a call the other day, it looks like the gb is telling everyone to contact all inactive ones, let them know they are missed, etc, and to do it within a week.

Oscar Pistorious
by LouBelle inis anyone here following what is happening with the trial in south africa.
what are your thoughts?
how are the media handling this?

I have paid attention, but not 'rapt' attention. I have heard of the crime and violence in So. Africa. I kind of think he is just another example of the general lack of civility and respect for the laws and rights of others that has been endemic in that country for WAAAY too long. Unfortunately he has a position such that he will be given more of the benefit of the doubt than other classes would be (who we would never hear of in a million years). Corruption is contagious. He may think he has a "get out of jail free card"(do you have Monopoly game in S. Africa?) He has white privilege, he has wealth and he is adored and famous.

in my neighborhood, we can't get anyone to speak to us-we don't speak spanish. Oddly, THEY DO, but they are working the spanish language crowds and I live in a diverse neighborhood in Houston. So, I'd talk to them (I'd enjoy it!) Only, no one will speak to me because I am anglo. Which they are too, so its extra stupid.
They REALLY don't want to actually talk to anyone.

Not sure of your ages or stages (kids?),but here is the thing.A lot of people go through a phase when they are partying and being pretty silly and irresponsible. Then they GROW UP. Unless your wife and you are still in your early 20's, you have probably become fully mature adults and have literally left that part of your childhood behind.
If there were actual problems beyond youth and immaturity, deal with them proactively (a-anon or doctor or therapy or whatever is needed).
People often turn to religion when they WANT something to change. That might well have been a decision that preceeded her involvement with the WT org, it was jus the vehicle she used. you are grown ups now.Hopefully, the silly stuff is over in any case.

Confused?
by nomorepain13 ini have been going to meetings since i was a child, long story short only recently i've started taking the truth seriously, i am not baptized but just an unbaptized publisher.
truth is i am so lonely in the congregation.
the other young people in the cong don't like me because they dont think i am going to "stay" for long, i've even worked on the ministry with an older brother and asked her am i giving the wrong impression to people?

Hey kiddo, hang in there. You aren't feeling the love because it just isn't there. You know it is not and it won't be-even if you are baptised.
You love God and want to serve God. Don't confuse that with a religion. You can find a faith home at some point later. Now you need to separate yourself from people who have nothing to give you in the way of companionship or association. Just go to God direct, find good people that are not in the org (they are there!) and grow yourself as a human being. Do good things for other people as a believer rather than doing organizational things to try to fit in. This way you can actually help others and meet good people along the way.
All the best to you.

Women in the WT world - International Womens Day
by JWdaughter inso, reading the articles about outstanding women in religion who are notable during this international day of women i noticed that among the episcolpalians, the catholics, muslims, buddhists, wiccans, mormons and bahais (and other random religous leaders that happen to be female) there is not one jw woman mentioned as holding a significant position.
do you think any of them will look at the list(s) and wonder?
while barbara anderson is significant in a ministry regarding the wt, she is not listed, nor is she a jw.

In modern JW life, there is not one notable female that has done anything. . . unless we count the tennis playing sisters and I don't believe they are actually baptised. In any case, they provide no spiritual leadership of any kind. Its a notable deficiency as we are celebrating international womens day. . . if any JWs come by, ask them what women in the religion are spiritual leaders and inspire the masses to excellence?
I was at a gathering yesterday that was inspiring. The little girl who was shot by the Taliban in Pakistan was highlighted and celebrated a bit-along with all kinds of women who are less 'noted' but have some serious good marks along with their names for their charity or insights. It was inspiring for the little girls and the women in attendance. And I was so pleased to see how most had their husbands/fathers with them-learning the same things!!

Progess!
by Jon Preston inwell my wife asked me loint blank..."do you wanna be a witness anymore?
" and i told her no.. .
we then went into 1914 and shunning and 1975 and she said sheswondered many times about it.. anyways she said "so what do we do now?
-
JWdaughter
Jon, you don't owe the org anything. Please tell your wife that she need not be confrontational if she doesn't want to be-and until you move, if someone asks, she could say-"I'm not coming back to this hall. It's personal and not up for discussion, thank you" However you decide to do this, she will have a few encounters before you move, probably. Tell her to be strong outwards and if she needs to lose it with someone, she can lose it with you or rant at us all that she needs to. We are on her side.

I'm glad that man had such loving people take care of him. I saw the same when my dad passed. He had done much good for many people. No JWs to support my mom. When she was very ill, I couldn't get a JW to come by and bring her the latest mags (she was far from home when she took ill). The other times she was in hospital, they only visitied to ensure that she didn't take blood. They were (some ) nice chaplain type visitors at the Catholic hospital that were JWs though and said they would come again. They didn't, but they weren't totally cold like someof the committee guys.
I dont get it. My mom has friends from the hall that she sees regularly. I'm not sure how this whole mentality works, but even active, they blew her off.

Then again, they warned us that they were GOING to shock us soon, so I guess they could take a "rip the band-aid off" kind of approach. Whoknows what the nutjobs will think of next?

I was reading Oubilettes list and some of the others and it just occurred to me (after more than 30 years, mind you) that had I stayed in the borg, I would be one of the hardliner mean people who would cheer when they made the new "DFing announcement" that some predict. That scares me to think of how hardheaded and just mean that I think that being a "good" JW would have made me. Not all JWs have that kind of cult personality, but I truly think I would have been one. I also know that it is not my true personality. . . so how would I, a basically nice person, turn into an ogre to such a degree? I am a bleeding heart and give the benefit of the doubt kind of person. I wonder how much of who I am in in RESPONSE to escaping that prison and how much of it is my natural unadulterated by religion, self?
Stuff to ponder, indeed.
BTW, I think they are going to do some more tweaking of the 144K,but not all of it out, not now. They are gonna sneak it out and one day when no one is noticing, sneak some new thing in before you even realize what happened. That is how Rutherford did it, and the same morality seems to apply these days.
