She is wearing a cross on a necklace in many pics. No JW there, anyway.

The Book of Mormon
by dubstepped inmy wife and i went to see it today at the encouragement of some of our new friends.
we laughed until we cried, and it was so cathartic to sit in a room full of hundreds of people laughing at the ridiculousness of religion.
sure, the subject is mormonism, but it was very poignant and applicable to all religion.

Mormons honestly have a better sense of humor about things. In the church and out of it, they can laugh at themselves. JWs are incapable of it.

It's an emergency. If Dr can't get you in, find another dr. This isn't about boss, co-worker or your dentist. It's just an emergency.

Remote Translation Offices (RTO) of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Brokeback Watchtower inwhat do you think about these things.
it seems like a monumental waste of time and money, a pipe dream of the governing body based on wishful thinking.
this corporation is going down the tubes with these asshole deluded genius's calling the financial investment shot.. buying chemical dump property around the world to build their financial empire headquarters on while facing massive child molestation lawsuits now and many more in the future means it looking kind of bleak for these messed idiots running things.. http://jw-branchoffices.blogspot.com/p/watchtower-remote-translation-offices.html.

This is the same religion that sends 3 English and Spanish people door to door in Texas and seek out Spanish householders. When the householder, whether my husband or I says that no, we speak English, but most everyone else in neighborhood speaks Spanish, they say thanks and leave probably the only person who will actually answer the door all day with no kingdom message, small talk, nothing. I wonder how many people they will blow off that doesn't speak the targeted language in spite of the fact that everyone at the door speaks a language in common natively and fluently. Those are the only JWs we get other than the white English speaking brother who shoved an invitation to convention at us without a word chatting with his partner as he stepped off the porch in pure texas English.

Jehovah's Limp Witnesses Pointed Me to JW.org When I Was Willing to Talk
by steve2 inseveral months ago i approached a nice young couple who were standing by a jw literature stand in my local community.
they were pleasant and polite but incredibly stilted when it came to answering my "innocent" questions about their beliefs.
this was the occasion of jws featuring the article headlined "is religion dying?".

Many people are not college educated, but formal education aside, who sends someone out to PREACH that can't even articulate the reason they are standing there? JWs have never taken in the bit in the bible about how everyone has their own skills, abilities and strengths. They rather expect everyone to be capable of being preachers. It's stupid. Even first century fishermen got that straight. These big city, 21st century stooges need to figure it out.

As I am sure this is weighing on your heart, I would encourage you to accept that no matter what, your sibling would be unlikely to accept a donation from you in any country. I think you should speak to doctors about WHY your liver in incompatible and let them just make THAT aspect clear. You are not compatible for a liver transplant. There is no need to risk your life(seriously!) for his conviction. It's bad enough the religion has effectively made it risky for him, but don't die for nothing-presumably, your family will need a healthy child/spouse/parent in the absence of your brother being able to actively participate at least for awhile, and perhaps permanently. I hope your brother beats the odds. My heart goes out to you both.

Navigating the "real world"
by Minerva inalthough i haven't called myself a witness in almost 15 years, i'm still married to one (which has it's own set of challenges and is fodder for a completely different post).
i haven't spent a lot of time on forums with other ex-jws either, but thought i would throw this question out to you all because it's something i still struggle with.... particularly for those of you who were raised in or were in the religion for many years - what has it been like for you to navigate the work world?
i would be a 3rd generation jw on one side of my family and a 4th generation on the other side -- the hardest thing for me has been just knowing how to act and behave, especially among co-workers.

Don't fret too much. A lot of people participate in holiday things feeling like frauds a bit, but do it to be sociable or out of kindness, to further business interest, etc. Others have no problem dismissing it for lack of inclination. Just go into it to the extent that feels right to you or use it as a yearly reminder to go the extra mile to be kind or giving. However it works for you. Just enjoy what you like and distance yourself when you want just like normal folks do.

Quite Possibly The Most Sinister Speaker Ever?
by pale.emperor inhi guys.. "brother" jose is quite possibly the most sinister speaker i've ever seen or heard.
and i've seen/head a lot of cults in my time.. he's over the top with his voice tone and gestures.
i see a future governing body member in the making here:.

The voice, the slitted eyes, head lowered, eyes up. Ugh. And his 911 emergency analogy works only after you determine if the criminal harming you is a JW.

Turkeys ... to brine or not to brine (recipe)
by RubaDub inbeing that time of the year when you can buy turkeys so cheap (most jw's i know but at least a couple) or in some cases food stores give one away with a purchase exceeding some dollar amount, i was just interested in any interesting recipes.. we usually do the brine thing (3/4 cup salt to 1 gallon of water, a few packets of chicken bouillon, some random additional spices, dry or fresh as desired).
cover the turkey completely and then let it soak overnight ( we usually do about an hour a pound).
not a real precise recipe but it does, in our opinion, make for a much more juicy bird without the typical dryness that often happens.. depending on the size of your refrigerator, it may take some gymnastics to get a big pot with a turkey in it.

I used a roasting bag for the first time this year. Lots of poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. That's it. Roasted til done. Skin will not crisp in bag, but meat was tender and flavorful. They were midamar halal turkey$. I made two. I have a lot of leftovers as there was waaaaaay too much food.
