  Very good thread, but at the same time there is a lot of research that proves that above a certain minimum standard of living, earning more money has absolutely no effect on ones level of happiness. In fact, above a certain point, the more money one has, the more unhappy they are. Sure, the JW's are wrong to denounce higher education, but at the same time the western world has been deluded into thinking that college degrees and higher salaries will in themselves make you happy and fulfilled. More and more people are wising up to the working myth and the shallow promises of materialism, without having to be JWs or Christians.

  The next time you speak with Bill Gates, ask him if he'd be happier a gazillionare or poor.

  I mean, this is ridiculous. Let's see... living in a shack, having to scrape to get by, vs. having enough money to take a nice cruise once in a while, not having to worry about lack of money so much, being able to travel the world...

  More and more people are wising up to the working myth and the shallow promises of materialism, without having to be JWs or Christians.

  Um, if you say so. Argumentum ad populum. Then how come there are more millionaires today in the states than ever before in history. I'd say more and more people are wising up to the shallow promises of an afterlife.

  Trick or treat

  or as its known in england "give us yer stuff or we'll egg you".. it really isnt the cozy friendly 'kids get dressed up and chat to all the neighbours nicely' that it is portrayed on american tv (remember the et scene?).

  i know you guys across the pond love haloween but imo its awful here.

  youth crime goes up by 20% in the uk around haloween.. our version is way more menacing.

  That's terrible. Hardly anyone actually "tricks" here. Teens might steal pumpkins here and there and toss them on the roads, but that's pretty much it.

  I can remember being a JW and how we'd turn off the front lights and hide in the living room, trying not to make a sound as the trick or treaters knocked. I was always expecting our house to be egged or toilet papered and it never happened.

  Been in an longdistance relationship with a married woman

  i have a situation that i need help with....2 1/2 yrs ago i met a woman online she is 20 yrs older then me 41 now as i am 23...i fell in love with her and i never have been in a long relationship.

  i know she is married but very unhappy...we been having a long distance affair for 2 1/2 years and i love her more then anything in this world...i have made her very happy and just the other day she feels trapped knowing she will be destroyed...i did not know what jw's were so i have been going to learn so i could understand her.

  i need help scriptures anything that i can use to help her leave her mentally abusive husband.

  I'm confused. You're not a JW, but JWs are willing to hang out with you and go on fishing trips? Also, since it's a long distance relationship, how have you been able to become best friends with her family? Why would they ask "Where's Joe?" if you don't live around them anyway?

  Why would God speak in symbols if he really wanted us to understand?

  if i was a deity and wanted people to know "the truth", i would just say it in plain language instead of veiling everything in symbolism, innuendo, and vague hints.

  what does that method of communication accomplish?.

  if i remember correctly, the borg answer to that is this method of communicating tricks the bad people but the good people can figure it out just fine.

  Symbolic language speaks to the unconscious. When I want something programmed into my unconscious, I don't say "Okay, unconscious! Listen to me. You must... blah, blah". However, through symbolic language and action, programming may be achieved.

  David Blaine is pretty good. But I figured out how he performed his street "levitation" the first time I saw him perform it. Freaks my son right out when I do it.

  The Loved Up Thread [Fluff]

  it might have escaped your notice but sirona and i are totally in love and seem to have a mutual appreciation society thing going on; however this has not taken place without causing some online problems as some of you might be aware.. both dawn (sirona) and i are conscious that we have hijacked a number of threads given our perpetual state of being loved up.

  given the untold frustration we might have caused to some posters we have decided to launch our very own jwd loved up thread.. this hopefully should allow threads to go on being productive without the frustration of people (us) whispering online sweet nothings and flirting and we therefore invite you all to use this thread if you are loved up, have similar mutual appreciation societies or simply wish to flirt with other online posters.
