I heard about a study that claims about 3% of people are unreformably evil. Unfortunately, it has always been that way, as can be seen from history and even the bible stories. There will always be these sick things happening.
Crime is down in many studies, but I only think it is because the not so evil ones hold back when threatened with being caught, and technology makes it easier to get caught.
What the the media does is makes people aware of crime. Before TV you rarely heard of anything that happened outside your town, now in a half hour news segment you hear the 10 worst things that happened around the world, day in day out.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE HUMAN RACE?!
by Mary ini watched dr. phil yesterday, where they were highlighting the disappearance of natalee holloway who disappeared in aruba over 5 months ago, and amy bradley who vanished from a cruise ship 7 years ago.
i always assumed that these girls were raped and then murdered and they very likely could be, but the program highlighted the sex-slave trade that is growing in leaps and bounds all over the world.
i sat there and listened in shock as one guy revealed what happens to some of these girls during snuff movies.

Once life is discovered outside outside the realm of earth...
by undercover inhow will it affect you?.
aa's thread on scientist's "creating" life got me to thinking about how people would react if life was discovered on other planets or solar systems.
the movie "contact" explored that some along with how faith and science combat but yet complement each other.. would life on other planets pretty much destroy much of earth's religious myths?

I really feel for you and wish you strength through all of this.
I don't know all your circumstances but feel you should fade if at all possible for as long as possible. Two reasons, either for family, or to help others see the truth.
I have totally stopped going to meetings for 6 months without getting d/f yet. It has meant that I have been able to subtly talk to many friends in that time and quite a few have stopped going to the meetings as a result. I am very careful to only talk to those that approach me with questions, are really searching and are very insistent on knowing what I now know.
If you do get d/f or d/a I think writing a brief letter to everyone could be important for your own reputation. Just as you wrote here, you have committed no sin, but become aware of the UN issue, false prophecies, or whatever else has been important to you. -

About 10 years ago my brother-in-law, an elder, said there were definitely no planets outside our solar system, the bible proved it. The sovereignty issue, etc. Literally a few weeks later they discovered the first planets in other solar systems. Did he stop believing the bible? Of course not. Cognitive dissonance made sure of that. He conveniently forgot he had ever thought it was an issue and came up with a new explaination.
ET, doesn't matter. JW's will say how that proves how important humans and the ransom are, since the ET's are so unimportant to God that he couldn't be bothered even mentioning them in the bible. JW's are the test case for the entire universe, "join quick in this monumental occasion before Armageddon kills everyone else, just leaving ET's and JW's"!!! -

Def D, sounds like a rapper name. ex Gang member, sounds like being a JW made some great improvements in your life.
That is the big question I face. I don't believe the doctrine anymore and think being a JW is damaging to some people. But I also believe it benefits some people greatly. Is it my place to show them what i think are the flaws of WTS culture, or could I then be reprehensible for taking away something that was of benefit regardless?
I always wonder how you personally keep your faith despite all the comments that you read on this board? -

How did they dare?
by Narkissos in.
this is a very simple question which came to my mind shortly after i broke free from the jw/fundamentalistic mindset.. assuming (1) that "god" didn't do and say everything that the bible texts record him doing and saying, and (2) that the writers were not cynical, machiavelical atheists forging a "god" for the sole purpose of mind control, but really believed in their "god", the question is: how did they dare make their "god" speak and act?.
this question, of course, is pointless to you if you believe (1) that "god" did do and say everything that the bible texts record him doing and saying, or (2) that the writers were cynical, machiavelical atheists forging a "god" for the sole purpose of mind control.. but if you are somewhere in between, as many of us are (i think), this is a fascinating question which can help us get a better idea of the true nature of faith, between passive "fear of god" and the audacity of literary creation.. any taker?

I am reading Aldous Huxleys book The Perenial Philosophy at the moment. (Very slowly along with many other books.) When I get to the end I will start a thread about it and would love your concept about it as it seems to be linked to what your comment that "God speaks all the time to living believers". An amazing book considering I thought he was an athiestic evolutionist. -

People can now report 15 minutes a month and still be counted as a publisher. I would like to know how much that affects the statistics. Even if only 3000 out of the 1,000,000 report less than an hour it means that in reality there has been negative growth when comparing like for like statistics. Next year will be a more accurate comparison as there will be 2 full years with the 15 minute change so there will be comparing similar figures.
