No one teaches there was ever nothing. The bible describes god as 'abundant energy'. Evolutionists say there was a point mass. The laws of thermodynamics talk about constant conservation of energy. There was never nothing, just something in a different state.

by jwfacts ini just found an interesting sumerian myth that i wanted to share.

A New Trend for JW Baby Boomers?
by NYCkid ini'm sure this topic has come up before but i'm new here :-) since many of us are offspring of the baby boomer generation or of a generation earlier, i've noticed a trend.
my parents and their siblings who largely grew up as witnesses are now entering or have entered retirement age.
although my parents were generally hard working and responsible people, they have little retirement savings.

Welcome NYCKid,
I have thought the same. My parents were earning very good money, but at the age of 40 gave up their jobs and went on circuit work. Now they are approaching 60 and still on the circuit. When the come off it they will be in the difficult financial situation of having enough money to reduce their pension, but not enough to live comfortably off.
I am more than happy to assist them financially, but as I am about to be d/f it will be a difficult if they shun me.

Excellent point AuldSoul. Most things have been used by 'Pagans' at some time or other. But the pole is one of the few things actually mentioned as such in the bible.

SERVICE REPORT 2005 : WATCHTOWER FEB 1ST 2006
by BluesBrother ini have had a quick look and found no references to this, so - here goes..as in the mag we picked up on sunday.. worldwide % increase over 2004 = 1.3%.
memorial partakers 8524 (compared to 8570 in 2004).
most european and nth american lands show pretty static figs - britain 1% increase, canada 0%, germany 0%, france 1%, usa 0%... but spare a thought for the inhabitants of zambia where 1 person in 90 is a reporting witness, must be hell going down to the local market!

Even the JWs do not teach that the "meek will inherit the earth" is referring to its inhabitatation. Don' t forget that they say the NT was written predominantly for the anointed. That scripture refers to Jesus inheriting the earth as a 'gift'. Kindly he will allow some to live on it.
it-1 p.1201 Inheritance
“The anointed members of the Christian congregation are spoken of as having a heavenly inheritance, sharing Jesus’ inheritance as his “brothers.” (Eph 1:14; Col 1:12; 1Pe 1:4, 5) This includes the earth.—Mt 5:5.”
Watchtower 1958 March 1 p.139 “Blessed Are the Meek”
“Will that mark the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise: “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth”? No, at least not primarily. Those words, first uttered by the psalmist David, apply first of all to the pre-eminently meek One, Jesus Christ, to whom his Father, Jehovah God, said: “Ask of me, that I may give nations as your inheritance and the ends of the earth as your own possession.” Inheriting the earth is part of his reward for his meek and faithful course while a man.—Matt. 5:5, AS; Ps. 2:8. Sharing this inheritance with Jesus Christ will be his “bride ,” those footstep followers of his, limited to 144,000, who will receive a heavenly reward. (Rev. 14:1, 3) Thus the apostle Paul tells them: “If, then, we are children, we are also heirs: heirs indeed of God, but joint heirs with Christ.” Jesus refers to these specially favored followers of his as a “little flock.” However, the principle enunciated at Matthew 5:5 applies also to Jesus’ other sheep who, as meek ones, will receive everlasting life on earth. How so? In that they will hold the earth in trust for Christ and his bride , permanent tenants, as it were.”
The Jews believed that paradise referred to a place people went to after death.
The NT teaches a NEW earth, not this present one.

I just found an interesting Sumerian myth that I wanted to share.
The Watchtower claims that the cross was not used by ‘true Christians’ and is of pagan origins.( Watchtower 1989 May 1 p.26 “ It reveres a pagan symbol masquerading as Christian.”) It is incorrect that early Christians did not use the cross. What I find highly amusing is the concept that the cross is pagan, because a stake is more pagan than a cross.
The idea of Jesus dieing on a stake mimics the ancient Sumerian myth of Inanna. Inanna descended into the nether world. There she was turned into a corpse by the seven judges and “the corpse was hung from a stake” for three days and nights. After this she was resurrected by the instructions of Enki, the god of fertility. ( The Hero with a Thousand Faces , Joseph Campbell, 1973, See also Mythology A Visual Encylopedia , Jo Forty 1999) If the Watchtower Society wants to find pagan concepts in the death of Jesus they need look no further than their own teaching of a stake.
A stake or pole has as great a sexual connotation as the cross and significant pagan usage. In Christian times the phallus was represented by the pole shaped Obelisk of the Egyptians and Romans and the Hindu Lingam.

The Preaching Work
by TheListener in.

The majority of the preaching work described in the bible was not door to door, but where the people were. To crowds on a hill, in the market places, in synagogues.
Other religions grow at the same rate as JWs without going door to door. How? Because they preach to people, not doors. At work, to friends, in the pub, wherever. It is the difference between preaching with sincerity and preaching under obligation.

Sudden family interest in our reasons why we are no longer JW's ...
by Curious Mind ini'm curious, just recently it seems that our family are intent on 'reasoning' or 'finding out' why we are no longer interested in being a jw.
what seems strange is how we have been approached by relatives here and overseas with such a small time frame - which leads us to believe that there must be some impetous for this suddent 'interest' in us and our choice, which we made over 10 years ago ... is it just us or does anyone out there know something, we suspect that something was raised at the recent district conventions, perhaps 'new light'!
we are tempted to let them know the full reasons, but (ofcourse) we fear that this will lead to an allegaton of apostacy and our df'g... .

I doubt there is an interest at the instigation of the DC, it is more of the same old info, no more emphasis that the end is coming than ever before. You can hope that they may be having doubts. You do not want to get into trouble by airing your ideas, so tread lightly and find out their real motives. Ask them questions about how they are feeling, going, how the hall is, what your old friends are up to, any recent information you may have missed. Get their guard down. If you work out that they are having doubts then start to let them in on a few ideas and see how they respond.
