  The NWT is almost readable now (some random thoughts)

  i guess there will be lots of interesting little changes, but perhaps the most significant change in the new version of the nwt is overall readability.

  there were many, many passages of the old nwt that were virtually incomprehensible unless you had read some watchtower commentary explaining what on earth they were trying to say.

  take 1 cor 7:36 in the old nwt for example:.

  The more readable, the less accurate. As soon as a translation starts to present what the verse is supposed to mean, it starts adding its own interpretation. One thing that I liked about the old NWT was how it used Sheol, etc, rather than translate those words. Now that they are choosing what terms to include, based on Watchtower interpretation, it is more likely to hide to original meaning.

  in 2008, the outline for meetings of circuit overseers with congregational elders and ministerial servants discussed that an elder can be removed for promoting university.

  there used to be a spanish scan linked on this site, but the link no longer works.

  i would be happy to find a copy of either the spanish or english version.

  In 2008, the outline for Meetings of Circuit Overseers with Congregational Elders and Ministerial Servants discussed that an elder can be removed for promoting university. There used to be a Spanish scan linked on this site, but the link no longer works. I would be happy to find a copy of either the Spanish or English version. The relevant part, translated from Spanish, stated:

  “When an appointed servant promotes higher education for the purpose of economic gain or prestige, this places in doubt his qualifications to serve in the congregation, and may affect his freeness of expression and that of his fellow elders.”

  BOC - Interesting find, terrible that they are trying to whitewash the Bible.

  Data-Dog - All occurences of Jehovah in the New Testament have been added, and were not in any of the early texts. Jehovah in the New Testament shows the Watchtower reasoning behind this. Their main reasoning is based on Bible translations from the forteenth century and later, not on the Septuagint or any early manuscripts.

  ok here is another spin on the wt verses the internet argument, and this time i'm going to be pro-wt.

  i have read articles and seen graphs that show in countries that have high internet penetration, growth rates diminish.

  this is used to support the idea that the information age is killing the wt.

  I agree that other factors are involved, such as those mentioned. When there are tough times or catastrophe, even now numbers rise quicker. However, the Watchtower experienced some of its greatest growth during periods of prosperity in the US. The start of declining growth rates in the mid 1990's was not due to increasing wealth.

  The saying about the trenches is not accurate either, but I feel a generalization. Many become atheists in the trenches, such as my grandfather, as the realize a loving God would step in to prevent such brutality.

  the child was represented by watchtower lawyer, vincent toole, who lost both cases, i.e.

  The Watchtower has often mentioned their amazing success rate with court cases for freedom of rights. They conveniently are far less vocal about the number of cases that they lose, like these.

  Which country is better to migrate Canada or Australia?

  i am sure nowhere is perfect but if we want to compare these two countries from different prospectives like racism, job, income/spending, quality of life, standard of living etc.

  can you please give me a rough idea by sharing your experiences.. .

  by the way, i am considering applying for a masters progrmme in any of the two countries.. .

  Australia is great, but it is very isolated. Most people I know that come here from the US eventually get homesick and leave.

  I don't know how it compares to Canada, but Sydney if very multicultural, which is great, but also leads to some racism. Nothing like how racially vilified I felt by black people, being a white person visiting various black suburbs, like harlem and the bronx in New York.

  Canada is too cold.

  It is great to see how quickly the picture has distributed to various JW sites. It shows the "faithful" are quite willing to ignore the Slave and research on the net. Breaking down the control the GB has over information is a key to undermining the BITE model.

  Thanks, cool find. The only link to that photo is from JWN, so interesting to see JWs come here looking for news.

  Funny, when I read this comment " it was taken by a person who is NOT A WITNESS, " I thought, "that's wrong, I'm a Witness." Then I read 2+2=5's comment that I realised that I am not a Witness. Sad to say, you can take the boy out of the witnesses, but you can't take the witness out of the boy.
