ive heard from a credible source that the landover (dc) international convention is important to the society in view of the 100 year anniversary of "kingdom rule" and the location being near the capital of the "seventh world power".
perhaps they hope this particular international sends a message.
we know that come convention time usually there is some feel good fluff piece in the newspapers about the watchtower religion.

It is terrible to read what you went through. You should be very proud of how well you have taken control of your life; many people would never have been able to rise above their upbringing as you have done. You do not owe anything to a father like that, and whatever you chose to do, and how much or little contact you have to do with your father, I am sure you will make the right decision.

As much as I disagree with what he is doing, it is a cute video. I remember those idealistic teenage days myself when I felt that same as he does.
after reading from another thread, i felt it was worth asking this question.. if you left the borg on your own, have you attempted to meet others whom you used to be connected with while you were "in", but who have also become ex-jw's before or after you have left the wts?
if that's the case, has it remained a friendship, or the connection grew cold?
just curious as to what keeps friendships "stick" [or not] once you no longer have the borg's doctrinal glue.. your experiences are welcome.. eden.
I have with a number of them. One person is very similar to me and now a best friend of mine. Some others are good friends and we meet up several times a year. I have occasional contact with others, but they may live far away, or are too busy to keep in touch. Still, there are the old memories, and we still relate at a personal level. And then there are others that never were on the right wave length and still are not.

so said the co last night.. apparently a jw was on a flight and just happend to sit next to some big wig from pixar and when the man from pixar heard that he was a jw the pixar man just gushed over what great work that the watchtower has done in producing the caleb video's.
he siad he only wished pixar could do such great work.
the co said we are able to do it because we have free labor and jehovah behind us.. my husband stayed home from the meeting but wanted to tie in by phone and that is what the co said in his talk.. the co also talked about all the changes that have happened in the last ten years and how if some of the friends did not like it they needed and to quote him "they just needed to get over it" these changes are going to happned period.
Why don't JWs see there stories as lies? Most have seen both Pixar and Watchtower cartoons, so must know the story could it be true.
okay, let's do a big what-if: suppose the gb for its own unfathomable reasons suddenly got new light (tm) and decided to start appointing women elders and ministerial servants.
they would, of course, refer to the examples of junia (apostle), and priscilla and phoebe (deaconesses in wordlyspeak) in the greek scriptures; never mind what mental somersaults it would take to get them there.
stranger things have happened in wt history.. that being the case, would having women in positions of real authority make any significant difference in the congos or in the borg as a whole, and why or why not?.

If it was my hardcore JW mother answering she would say, "Women could not be elders. There would be too much crying, and emotional, irrational decisions made." I guess that is a good indication of how beaten down she was by Watchtower doctrine. It is interesting to see that the answers here do not touch on that but rather it depends moreso on the individuals than the sex.
