I wrote an article about this after the ARC, out of annoyance at Geoff's dishonesty. Corporal punishment was actively encouraged by Watchtower in the past, but now they are more cautious as to how this is worded, so as not to be seen to be breaking the law where corporal punishment is illegal, such as some states of Australia.

Can JWs Use Corporal Punishment On Their Children?
by minimus incan a parent slap or use a "rod of discipline" on their kids?
i know it's politically incorrect and perhaps illegal, but is it a personal decision based upon the scriptures or is it taboo these days?.

our personal preaching ministry is not "in order to involve other persons to be the participants (followers) of religious organization".
Wow, what a bold faced lie. The Watchtower "good news of the kingdom" is that the only way to survive into paradise is to join their organisation. This letter will lead to JWs being jailed in Russian. Poor misled sheep.

not one but four witnesses at my door
by gerry inhaving not had a witness knock on my door since i left over 13 years ago i was surprised a few sunday mornings ago to find two young sisters who i had not seen before at my door.
it was not long before their husbands who were witnessing at my neighbors joined the conversation.
the conversation went on for some time so i am keeping the experience as brief as i can.. mind you with all what has been happening lately with the australian royal commission here in australia i had been looking forward to having a discussion with any witness who comes within earshot.

Great experience. It is great how you made the verbally confirm that such a practice is bad. It will have to prick their conscience when they see the convention videos.
Child abuse first but they were adamant things have changed for the better.
That is a very common response. The reply is that the organisation claims to be directed by Jehovah, based on his perfect guidance. Why is it then that they need the world to show them how to behave acceptably regarding the abuse of children?

It is striking that it needed steel beams. It doesn't have to float, be filled with animals, or cope with the pounding of waves, and yet he could not build it as a copy of what is outlined in Genesis.

Study article: "Go, and Make Disciples.." is a hot mess
by Sanchy inso i hooked into meeting via phone this week to listen in and was shocked at the absurdities mentioned in the study article (2016 may watchtower: "go,..and make disciples of people of all the nations").
the answer is obvious—only jehovah’s witnesses.
the answer the missionary priest gave in no way proves that jws are the only ones "preaching the good news".

Great summary. What a huge array of rhetorical fallacies. How do JWs lap up such obviously poor and contradictory reasoning?

Is the Bible God's word? Help please.....
by Freeandclear inso real quick, i know this comes up now and then and i've looked over some of the posts from the past but here's the thing.. when i was a jw i drank all the cool aid, i was 100% and so i have all my own arguments (from the jw's) for why the bible is inspired.
i no longer believe this but i'd really like to read something that is pretty much 100% academic on this subject.
i want to read what scholars have to say about the authenticity of the bible and it's claim at being the inspired word of god.

Ask yourself, if you came from a country that knows nothing about the Bible, what would a Christian have to show you to convince you the bible is inspired?
There is only one thing that ever really impressed me about the Bible - prophecy. However, after research it is apparent that there are a number of failed prophecies, and no compelling prophecies. Saying there will be wars, earthquakes and famines is hardly worthy of being called a prophecy.
It is worth researching how the Bible Canon was formed. There is no such thing as "The Bible." There are several different Bible canons, showing that God did not actually hand down an inspired collection of books.

Bunker Video: Why No Concluding Scene?
by Wild_Thing ini was wondering why they ended the "bunker video" as they did ... with an armed militia finding the jws huddled in the corner of the basement ... fade to black.
the jws watching don't know what happened after that.
did they kill them?

It's like Game of Thrones. They have left it hanging so you can't wait to come back next year for the sequel.

How will this affect your relationship with your wife? How your daughter fares will be depend a lot on what happens between you and your wife.

Salvation Army vs Jehovah's Witnesses
by doofdaddy ini was just listening to a documentary while driving.
it was about the salvation army past and present.
what caught my attention was the similarities between the s.a. and the jws.... firstly was the music and how they stubbornly shunned popular and ever changing musical trends by writing and playing their own exclusive hymns for over a century.this made the church inward looking and ignorant to social change which inevitably led to losing touch with the wider world.. initially they preached but as times moved on they relied on growth via families and keeping the family separate from the world.

One of my gay colleagues was in the SA. One day the person delivering the closing prayer specifically mentioned him by name and asked God to help him overcome his homosexual desires. At that stage he was still a virgin. He walked out never to return. The SA do some good work, but as with JWs, I hope their out of date bigotry leads to their demise, to be replaced by groups of people that assist others without the obligation to resort to the use of God motivated guilt.

"how awful it must be to be dying as an apostate!"
by purrpurr ini heard today about a former jw/now apostate who is dying in hospital.
this information was accompanied by the comment of "wouldn't be awful to be lying there in hospital, dying as an apostate!
knowing that you have no hope!?

This is typical "black and white" ignorance. JW = hope, xJW = no hope. How complex is it for them to register option three, that some xJWs have the hope that at death they will enter heaven? That is a more comforting thought that being lifeless in the grave until the new system arrives.
