It sounds to me that you are doing the best that you can and you obviously love your son very much.
I feel for you as i am in the same situation. As well as the 13 yo i also have an 18 year old. He will never be a Witness. I would calmly pop in the odd comment-did you know the witnesses stood in white gowns on a bridge waiting to be flown to heaven- he now thinks its a crack pot religion.
I think some of the comments are somewhat harsh. I know that the JWs are quite destructive, but disagree that if your son goes to meetings he will be ruined for life. If you show him love, fill his life with nonJW friends and gently reason with him over time he will see truth. JWs have had zero growth for 10 years in developed countries, with access to information he will come to know it is not true. If he is shown there are 2 or more sides to every story he will learn to reason and grow more than many children who spend their lives sitting at home in front of tv.
Ask him if a loving God would really want to murder 6 billion people, many who have never even seen a bible. Does that sound like a loving religion?

The Great Crowd
by buffalosrfree inwas talking with wife a day or so ago and she asked me a question on the w.t.
for sunday, it had to do with the annointed and malachi 3:17 being applicable in a modern day fulfillment and also for the great crowd, the question went something liek this "in principal, how is the great crowd part of the prophecy of malachi 3:17?
well when opportunity knocks you had better open the door, so i says well turn here to rev 7:14 she of course had to read it too, so i told her there is no great crowd, has the great tribulation happened?

the only reason you are not cool with going to heaven is the JWs have told you not to be. For centuries billions of people were taught they were going to heaven and were quite fine with that. My mother was a Catholic and merrily looking forward to heaven. Now she's a JW and suddenly earth is the only place she could ever want to be.
The earth is temporary anyway. Any second year science student knows the sun is finite and will eventually consume the earth. Even the bible writers knew it. (Isaiah 51:6) 6 “Raise YOUR eyes to the heavens themselves, and look at the earth beneath. For the very heavens must be dispersed in fragments just like smoke, and like a garment the earth itself will wear out, and its inhabitants themselves will die like a mere gnat."
There are more scriptures saying the earth will be destroyed than will last forever. -

C.T. Russell: a confirmed Pittsburgh Free Mason
by kid-A inthere is overwhelming evidence that the spiritual founder of the wts, c.t.
russell, was a prominent free mason in the pittsburgh community.
he went so far as to declare: "i am a free mason" in several of his lectures.

It doesn't matter whether he was accepted as a practicing Freemason or not. What is relevant is that he was greatly influenced by their occultish teachings. How any clear thinking person could believe this is the only true religion and that Jehovah directed Russell to introduce Egyptian symbology is beyond me. When I read the 60 pages on the pyramids in studies in the scriptures there was no turning back for me.

I received an E-mail from an old friend....how do I respond?
by schne_belly into my dear xxxxx hello there-how are things going with you?
i've been thinking of you a lot, i've wanted to write you this for quite some time.
i guess we both know that things aren't the way they used to be-between you and i; between you and jehovah's organization-and i just want you to know how much i miss you.

That was a really difficult email to read.
I'm not sure if you are disfellowshipped or not. If you are not and dont want to be it would be best not to reply, particularly not in writing. If you email her to the effect that you no longer follow the WTS that can put you in line for a judicial committee, you can not deny what is in writing. It is not worth it. -

I agree that filling his life with fun outside the org is the best approach.
I would not worry though if your grandparents take him to meetings. I did some stats on the kids i grew up with. Out of 40 kids, only 20 attended meetings into their 20's. That was despite them mostly having JW parents, and growing up in the 80's when the end was definitely going to be before 2000. With your balancing influence his chance of ending up a JW is quite remote. -

I have a 13 yo in a similar situation. I explained to her that God is loving and that everyone can have the paradise hope, not just JW's. She has lovely 'worldly' friends at school. I asked her if she thinks God really would want to kill them just because they are not JW's. She quickly realised it was a silly teaching.
My daughter finds it hard with pressure from the grandparents and the cutting comments of JW's that are supposedly trying to encourage her. But she does realise that many people love a creator and believe in a ressurection and is quite satisfied with that.
When she was about 8 she once came to me crying because her study conductor told her I did not believe in paradise so i would not be with her in the new system. As she has gotten older, and sees first hand Witness hypocricy she no longer is worried about those sorts of teachings. -

U r right, it is totally ridiculous. I have known of several people in the same situation. They plan unscriptural adultry so that they can then have a 'scriptural' remarriage.

I know a guy that was disfellowshipped 3 times for alcohol abuse and is reinstated again.
His daughter was disfellowshipped twice and is reinstated. Funny because first time was for fornication with a worldly guy that she ended up marrying. Second time was for cheating on her worldly husband with a married Witness who she then married. I worked with the worldly guy and as you can imagine he hates JWs.
Her sister was married to a Witness guy, they got divorced, remarried, and divorced again.
The girl sort of knows JWs are not the truth and yet keeps going back for more. I keep in touch with her but she thinks its her culture. Getting d'd and going back for more seems to be a family culture too. Masochists
