The information there is shockingly dishonest and poorly reasoned, yet it is the go to site for JWs regarding both those topics.

Rudds new asylum seeker policy
by barry into the aussies out there what do you think of the government policy to send asylum seekers to png and have them settle there if they are proven to be refugees and if not to be sent home or to a third country.
i believe this policy will definately stop the boats.

I know a young Iranian refugee sent here by her father for a better life. He is atheist, as is she, but her brother was hardcore Muslim. They were very misled by the trafficers. They paid over ten thousand dollars, and were led to believe she was travelling into Australia on a cruise liner. She was mortified when she started the trip. I don't think many of the refugees have any idea of how dangerous or illegal the trip they take will be.
Rudd's policy may work, but it is overly tough. The previous Liberal policy resulted in far less boat people than come now, and was not as inhumane. I enjoyed this article about Rudd and his policy, who is well described as a dysfunctional and self-obsessed. http://www.smh.com.au/comment/kevin-rudd-unmasked-in-devils-island-plan-20130721-2qcgk.html
As others mention, there are significantly more illegal immigrants that overstay visas, than there are boat people, which is used just as a political game. My wife told me to never ask a Filipina about there visa status, as there are so many that stay illegally, including JWs. There was an unwritten rule in the congregations that if you are illegal you do not qualify for privileges, but they were not reported to the authorities.

Why does an Omni... God need Jesus and the 144,000 co-rulers?
by jwfacts inat the thread about jaracz steve2 made the following interesting comment.
by now, ted should be finding his heavenly posting a routinized bore: 4 years and still counting.
he will have chaffed at the notion that all decisions are made by jehovah god who consults no one and who brooks no questioning or independent thinking.

By now, Ted should be finding his heavenly posting a routinized bore: 4 years and still counting. He will have chaffed at the notion that all decisions are made by Jehovah God who consults no one and who brooks no questioning or independent thinking. Yes, Ted you will feel well and truly like one of the rank and file who endured long years of your defiant decision-making.
It made me wonder what the purpose of the 144,000 in heaven is. If Jehovah is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving and so forth, then it is not as if the 144,000 will consult to him. The Watchtower has made claims that the 144,000 will be able to provide a human perspective, but an omniscient God already knows all they have to impart. I don't even think they will be used to communicate with the earth, since that is the role of angels.
The whole role of the 144,000 as kings and priests in heaven seems redundant.

When did the Last Days start in the first century
by wizzstick ini've been reading coc and rf highlights that luke 21:28 says: "but as these things start to occur, raise yourselves erect and lift your heads up, because your deliverance is getting near.".
i'm thinking on how no one who saw the start of these things is alive from 1914. as a comparison point, does anyone know when the wt suggests the last days started in the first century?.
was it when jesus said the above?.

I thought that was brilliant. The viloence is obviously a joke, and not recommended. I do think it is very valid that if God created magic, and uses magic (miracles), then it is petty to say a child cannot dream of magic. We don't condemn superman, and he uses magic.

mostly its the aust born children of the immigrants who cause these problems. ... For example, what happened in Cabramatta with the gangs of kids born to Vietnamese parents.
It is interesting that two of the cultures that have been predominantly behind much of the drug trade in Sydney (Vietnamese and Lebanese) were both refugees from war torn countries. The third now causing problems in Sydney are Sudanese, also from a country of civil war. It is not so much an issue I think with those races, but rather the numbing affect of losing so much through war and displacement. There is far less problems related with Vietnamese now that there have been more generations, settling and education, and in time Lebanese will create less problems as well, as they settle and have better levels of education and employment.

Julia - Bad guys will have guns but where are they getting them? It's. Or like we have a land border with a dodgy country that's smuggling them in, and everything has to come by sea or air where it's checked at the ports.
I read a report about the number of guns in Australia, which is actually quite high. However, unlike America, it is confined predominantly to drug dealers, and the shootings are confined very much to the criminal element.

I own a house in Merrylands. I built it in 2000, but since 2007 the shootings in that suburb has become about once a month, so I moved out a year ago to a safer suburb. However, the shootings are not an "Aussie Craze." The Merryland shootings are entirely amongst a couple of Lebanese drug dealing families that moved into the suburb, that own a number of clubs and run cocaine at Kings Cross.
If you view this map http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/sydney-shootings the shootings are concentrated around three areas - Granville, Punchbowl and Kogarah - which are densely populated by Lebanese, specifically those that run the cocaine and speed/ice trade in Sydney that are involved.

Smiley happy people
by Simon inup here in canadia we have a lot of filipino people doing jobs that many other people may not want to do.
we often come across them working in low paid jobs at mcdonalds or other fast food places or the bottle depot or wherever.. but boy, do they seem happy !.
not only do they always seem to be really hard working and dilligent but also genuinely happy with big beaming beautiful smiles.. they must have some different outlook on life that works great - anyone know what it is?.

I asked a relative the same question when I was visiting Philippines. She said they whilst they look happy, on the inside they are not really. Due to the poverty there, they have an underlying depression that they will never be able to afford to do the things that they would like to. However, I have noticed that the culture is very gentle; they have a love of simple pleasures, like family, food, and romantic music and movies. Partly that extends back to being poor and strongly controlled by Catholicism. That gentle culture seems to change when they move to other countries and adopt the local culture. The change takes a couple of generations, as they do socialise together a lot, so keep the culture for some time.
I do not think it is genetic. A case in point if Mindanao, which has a lot of violence due to a 10% Muslim population and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

If one of the "Anointed" is Disfellowshipped and is Reinstated does he or she lose their "anoited" status?

No. Watchtower doctrine is that all Anointed regain the heavenly hope if they get reinstated. (Sorry, I don't have access to any quotes.) The reason they have to say no is that they admit that the NT says that all Christians go to heaven. There were not two hopes for "true Christians" until this century.
