Ann - interesting. The majority of pro JW email I receive are people that are not baptized. Some have grown up around the religion but never made the commitment. Whilst I call them on their hypocrisy, I feel sorry for them, as they must suffer fear and guilt knowing they are unacceptable to their belief system.

if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).

I am close friends with a lawyer that works on visa applications for refugees and am also good friends with an Iranian girl who arrived as a refugee two years ago. Her perspective is interesting, as whilst true refugees require assylum for their own safety, there were many on her boat that were criminals. I feel the important thing is the humane treatment of boat people whilst determining their eligibility as refugees, along with fast processing of applications.
The "boat people" situation has been blown out of proportion as a political marketing tool, as the number of boat people is insignificant in comparison to the number of illegal immigrants in Australia. Amongst the Indonesian and Filipino communities, of which I have known many people, there are many that have overstayed their visas. That includes active JWs.

SBF - this is not the USofA. We don't vote for the Prime Minister, but for the party. It is the party ideology that is more relevant, and Abbott has done a good job of surrounding himself with people that compliment his weaknesses, as opposed to Rudd who seems to think of himself as a one man band.
american influence fades away - last year (ending july2013) the usa only bought 3.9% of australia's export.. but china bought 32.9% of australian exports.
imagine what happens to australia's economy if china stopped buying australian?.

Gingerbread - The 'historic' Watchtower buildings in Brooklyn have sold. It's time to 'flee to the mountains'. Ahh, so that is how they are getting around the contradiction of the end being so close, but we need a bigger premise. They are building in a new location away from everyone "in the mountains" so that everyone will be safe when armageddon shortly arrives. Armageddon is so close they never as many volunteers as possible to get it finished before Armageddon, so they are all safely tucked away. Is a bomb shelter part of the plans? That would be an indication of how much the GB believe Armageddon is coming.

some are not sure.. i was told recently by a friend to pray to god for help and he would comfort me.. my first impulse is to pray.
So many of us have been in a similar place you are at the moment. Be assured that it gets better. It is fortunate that you have your children to keep focussed on and get you through this time, because soon you will be loving your life and so grateful that you did not do anything rash. Please, make sure you continue to confide in friends or a doctor while you are feeling this way.

You can never win an argument with a true believer. You need to accept that your father has different views than you, even if you I understand why they are wrong.
The world has made tremendous strides against such ignorant thinking over the last hundred years and hopefully education with continue that advancement for upcoming generations.
