Sorry to hear what is happening on the job front. Good and bad happens to everyone. As OTWO states, a JW will attribute the good to Jehovah, and the bad to Satan. Or occassionally the good to Satan and the bad to Jehovah and call them tests. In reality, it is just life. You may be finding it harder than usual to be in the right emotional place to find the right job, as you are still recovering emotionally from leaving; that is what happened to me. It will take time for you to remove Watchtower superstitions, but they will fade over the next few years.

Could it be that Jehovah is punishing me for leaving his religion?
by Julia Orwell ini know it's a completely absurd thing to say, but something happened to me today that triggered the old cult reaction.
my mind instantly lapsed back into that of a jw and for a split second i thought that because i wasn't doing jehovah things that jehovah's blessing had been removed from me and this is why my life seems to be running into so many dead-ends.
as a jw i attributed anything good happening to me to being the result of my being a good jw and dutifully doing everything the borg teaches.

JW's need to read Pinker's books. We are in a period of the greatest peace ever. Pinker does note that it only takes a couple of news items a night for people to live in their fantasy that violence and war is worse than ever.

If you start studying up on other Christian religions, you will find that they all have solid doctrine. Reading the New Catholic Encylopedia, I found their doctrine to be significantly more strongly researched and better presented than say the Insight book.
What I also found is that the reason each religion has different doctrine is that each accepts different Scriptures as literal or figurative. The Bible is not a consistent book with doctrine in it. You cannot go to a chapter and study up on the doctrine of the Nature of God, or the doctrine of what happens at death. Each sect comes up with its own interpretation by analysing verses scattered throughout both the Old and New Testament, accounting for the vast differences in teachings. Boiled down, it means the Bible can say whatever you want it to.

JW's just called at my door, simply handed me the JW.ORG tract and left! JW's now mere leaflet distributors.
by yadda yadda 2 ini'm off work today and its a monday morning.
a male and female jw just knocked on my door, i opened it, the guy just handed me their latest website promoting tract saying "hi, were just leaving these with people today", and then he made to leave.
i looked at the tract and then looked at him as he was turning to walk away and said to him "ok, thanks, but ummm you could've just left it in my letterbox.".

"Ok, thanks, but ummm you could've just left it in my letterbox."
Great response, I wonder what he thought about that comment. I wonder if he is a disgruntled, fading JW, and just going through the motions, or they are all that way now.
Legitimate corporations must be envious of the Watchtower having 7 million drones that are happy to do free marketing for them. The power of indoctrination is difficult to comprehend.

Hello
by lurkernomore ini thought it was high time to introduce myself (without my name of course).
as my name would suggest i have been reading your intriguing post, thoughts and discussions for some time now.
around 3/4 months to be exact.. i guess to start with it would seem fitting to give a little background on my current situation.. i'm a born-in, but have over the last few years found that through a number of varying occurences, (some of which i may discuss in future posts) that my 'zeal' has gone from regular field service and meetings to no service in over a year and very sporadic meeting attendance.

For me the starting point of realising TTATT was when a fellow witness posted an interesting meme on a social network which prompted comments form both witneses and non-witnesses alike. It was here that i first heard about the whole UN NGO saga. The rest, as they say is history!
Welcome. I see lots of JWs getting busy on the internet and wondered if they feel like a family and encouraged seeing so many joining together from around the world. It is good to see that the discussions are opening the eyes of some.

Thanks for the update.
And after the meeting, the few people I talked to actually just congratulated me on my in-depth statistical research – but nobody connected the dots with anything! I couldn’t believe it
That is an important lesson. They want to believe, so look for the positives. They assume whatever it was you said must be positive, because no one ever is brave enough to express otherwise. It went over their heads so you must be deep. Your mother on the other hand realised what the statistics said, but had to come up with another explanation about Satan.
I had the same with my parents. I discussed a lot of what was on jwfacts.com. My mother came up with illogical, circular reasoning to get around it. At other times she just simply refused to connect that dots as to the point being made. All that happened is that it destroyed my relationship. Instead of leaving and being a weak person, I became hated for being an apostate.
Keep that in mind when dealing with your parents. They will be unlikely to allow themselves to draw the same conclusions that you have. But as your mother showed in her comment, she will begin to class you as being on the side of Satan.
Stuckinarut - So, hang on...am I getting this right? They are boasting about the increase in numbers, but the numbers did not actually increase?
Not quite right. They are Watchtower statistics, and the number of publishers did increase from 6 million to 7.5 million. However, the Watchtower article was boasting about the number of baptisms, when the actual increase in publishers was only half that number, so the growth is nowhere near what they are saying.

Why do Atheists Celebrate Christmas
by givemejustalittlemoretime inscientist and atheist richard dawkins has admitted he does celebrate christmas - and enjoys singing traditional christmas carols each festive season.. the writer and evolutionary biologist told singer jarvis cocker that he happily wishes everyone a merry christmas - and used to have a tree when his daughter was younger.. dawkins, one of the most famous atheists in the world, was interviewed by sheffield born cocker when he stepped in as a christmas guest editor on radio four's today programme.. 'i am perfectly happy on christmas day to say merry christmas to everybody,' dawkins said.
'i might sing christmas carols - once i was privileged to be invited to kings college, cambridge, for their christmas carols and loved it.. read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1100842/why-i-celebrate-christmas-worlds-famous-atheist.html#ixzz39dwxid00 ?.

A person doesn't have to be a Christian in order to enjoy the Christmas season and it's festivities. Much of what we call 'Christmas' is derived from ancient Pagan roots, celebrating the Earth and it's seasons and cycles. There is a difference in celebrating the RELIGIOUS aspect of Christmas and in celebrating the CULTURAL traditions of the Christmas season. Exactly the same reasons apply to the celebrations of Easter and Halloween. A person doesn't have to be 'religious' to enjoy those traditions. Birthdays are viewed by JWs in a 'religious' context, as a negative event, whereas for MOST people birthdays are simply a happy and festive CULTURAL tradition.
Excellent answer NavyTown.

Sorry, the second line should have listed the 2012 publisher figure. 2003 - 2012 is the 10 year period that the Watchtower quote refers to.
2003 6,184,046 average publishers
2012 7,538,994 average publishers
Increase 1,354,948
Baptisms 2,707,710
Increase is only 50.04% of baptisms

by Londo111 inive heard from a credible source that the landover (dc) international convention is important to the society in view of the 100 year anniversary of "kingdom rule" and the location being near the capital of the "seventh world power".
perhaps they hope this particular international sends a message.
we know that come convention time usually there is some feel good fluff piece in the newspapers about the watchtower religion.

Data-Dog, "I can take a pic with my smarty-phone if the CD Library has been sanitized."
The CD has been sanitised, it only goes back to the 1970 Awake. There is scan of the quote and entire article at http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/quotes/20th-century-2000.php
It is a good quote that I should also add to the article on the generation.
