  WT: Dumbing down the message; no intellectuals allowed

  have you noticed that the most recent publications by the watch tower, and particularly the study articles of the watchtower magazine, contain less and less references to secular sources?

  there is not doubt that the society was always making efforts to provide us with a historical and quasi-intellectual perspective of the world.

  i am sure all of you can think of books by the watch tower that contained extensive information on history, biology, and even philosophy (insight, creation book, the bible -god's word or man's?

  It was always dumb. The references to secular sources were always ripped out of context, and twisted to say something other (often the exact opposite) than what it actually said. It`s just that we were to stupid to figure that out.

  The Alpha males in the JW religion

  we, as ex-jws should know this more than anyone, as the leaders of our old religion were usually the ones that towed the party line, which usually meant they were dumb enough to believe that nonsense.

  the smartest man i ever knew was a professor of mine, alexander kaufman... graduate of the jfk school at harvard, he taught john rawls philosophy and economics at uga.... .

  i used to laugh my ass off when he had visiting economic professors from places like princeton, yale, harvard...all the top schools; he'd hold an open debate forum where the greatest conservative minds in the world would debate their economic theories against his... i am still a friend of his and have enjoyed many a beer with his guests, who usually were his friends, the debating of these men was really something to behold.

  While I basically agree with dawg on this, the counter-argument would be the same as against all arguments for pacifism: It would be a wonderful world if all the nations in the world agreed upon electing people like dawgs professor to lead them, but it wouldn`t do much good for a nation to do so, if none of the others did. Take Israel, for example: If they had elected pacifists only, the arab nations around them would wipe them out faster than you could say "shalom". Same with your country, the U.S. Had you elected pacifists only, Iran, Syria, Russia and north-Korea would have done pretty much whatever they pleased, expecting no retribution or opposition.

  Milk and Meat are poisoning people and destroying our health!

  i have read a dozen different health books that come to this same conclusion.

  what is milk?

  mammal infants require milk from their own species to grow quickly and start solid food.

  The human long digestive system is not designed to handle meat since carnivores have short intestines....Gorrilla's 93 % our genes and simular digestion system, do not eat meat and are 20 times stronger then a man!

  This is not correct...It is true that carnivores have short intestines, but that does not mean humans are vegetarians. We do not have the extremely long intestines of true vegetarians, such as cows, giraffs, horses. Our intestines are sort of "in between", making us omnivores. We can digest both food and vegetables. The great apes share more than 93% of our genes, it`s more like 98%, and most of them eat meat when they can get hold of it.

  Milk does have plenty of calcium, and there`s lots of protein in both milk and meat (depends on what kind of meat, of course).

  Finally putting the new light all together

  okay maybe i'm a little slow but i'm finally beginning to understand how all the "new light" is tied together.

  this has all been prompted for me by my reading of the 1914 chapter in "crisis of conscience".

  see, the door to heaven which was previously closed in 1935 has been reopened.

  The problem with the "new light" on the "generation" is that it is way to abstract. I bet 90% of all jws don`t understand it. And of the 10% that do understand it, only a few understand its implications.

  having never been a jw, what is the feeling of a 'run of the mill' witness towards these sites sympathetic towards the general doctrines of the wts, but calling for some major reforms?.

  SCANNED ARTICLE ON BLOOD FRACTIONS 'WORKBOOK'

  i'm not sure if this has ever been posted, but here's the uh "workbook" that all jws are given regarding blood fractions.

  of course, the hypocrisy shines through as when it asks "are fractions also covered by the command to abstain from blood?

  we cannot say" and "your decisions should be your own and should not be based on someone else's conscience.

  Note how on each and every "fraction" you can either accept or decline. So, you can, as a Jehovahs Witness, in good conscience accept all of these "fractions". What the Witchtower is not telling you, is that that list is a list of all the components of blood! So basically, if you accept all of those fractions (but please, doctor, just one fraction at a time, I`m a Jehovahs Witness) - you are, in fact, getting a full blood transfusion (whole blood). It`s just been divided into fractions first. It`s a total scam. And, if push comes to shove and they actually lose a lawsuit over the blood-issue, they can just say: "Hey, blood was allowed all the time, as long as it was divided up into fractions, so no need to get so upset. Had they just read that article thoroughly, they would have known".

  They are criminals.

  i am a sister that kind of "fell away" from the organization.

  i felt that i wasn't accepted by my brothers and sisters (long, long story).

  whatever i did i wasn't "perfect" enough.

  Going to the elders to rat on someone elses immorality is bad enough. By doing so, one puts oneself in a position of "moral authority". That`s all fine if the immoral person is a hypocrite, that speaks about chastity, but does all the sleezy things everyone else does in secret, but: you slept with two different married men. In my opinion, you don`t have the right to exalt yourself to the position of a moral authority (which is where you, morally, should be, if you intend to rat on someone else). Worry about your own problems, leave others alone.

  It`s because of our long tradition of "liberalism". We have the same thing in my country (Norway). Lawyers have proposed that in cases of so-called "honor-killings" (when a moslem father kills his daughter for not being chaste enough) - the murderers (patriarchal) cultural traditions should be taken into account, and he should therefore be sentenced more mildly. And that`s on top of our allready way to liberal justice system: "Life sentence" is 21 years, but one prison "year" is only 9 months - and people are paroled years before serving their full sentence. Its very rare that anyone serves more than ten years for premeditated murder in my country.

  But people are getting fed up with it now. The result is that far-right political parties (like Le Pens party France) are getting bigger and stronger - and eventually, they will come to power.

  Solid Non-Biblical Proof That Jesus Existed

  i have not heard of one single (non-shroud of turin) piece of evidence that jesus ever walked the earth.

  please give me non-biblical and non-shroud of turin evidence that has been found that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the jesus of the bible walked the earth.. is that too much to ask?

  the bible says it happened but gives no proof to support its statements.. the shroud of turin has not been established as proof of anything beyond a good wax and dye job.. .
