  Cross or a Stake - which was it?

  we were always lead to believe, when we belonged to the jws, that jesus died on a "stake".

  was this really true or did he die on a cross as all other religions appear to believe.

  if it was a cross, what on earth did the jws get out of saying otherwise.

  Leolaia is right, the issue isn`t in itself important, but it`s important, because the WT has made a big deal of it. To the WTBTS and to the JWs around the world, it`s a kind of a "boasting thing", a "we know the truth about how christ died, and the cross is a pagan symbol, oh how fitting, as the church and all of christianity is mere satanism, we have the true religion, noone else"-thing. That`s why it`s a big deal, to me, anyhow. And read thru Leolaias article, it`s great (but very long, I`ve taken a copy of it and saved it on my hard-disk).

  And Heathen: The swastika, wchich the nazis used, has nothing (or very little) to do with the cross. It`s an old aryan symbol used in India for thousands of years, and this symbol was used by the nazis in their quest for "aryanism" (long and complicated story, one of the original indo-european peoples, the aryans, emigrated southwards into Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan and India...and with the Indians, the swastika symbol was still in use...and this inspired Hitler into using it).

  How do they come up with all this BS, I wonder. I`m also curious as to which "holy war waged by religions against Jehovahs Witnesses" they are referring to. When did the JWs ever suffer? (except from Malawi, but that was the WTbts fault). It was 5.8 million jews that were killed in the holocaust, not Jehovahs Witnesses. And it was tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, of early christians that died as martyrs in Rome, in the arenas and elsewhere, not Jehovahs witnesses. This selfproclaimed, selfrighteous, selfpitying martyrdom/victim status they`ve come up with, makes me wanna puke.

  is any one informing the press in the uk, ie bbc, itv, sky, etc and papers, about the anti jw protests in new york and canada on the 13th october?.

  they may be interested!.

  perhaps simon is the right person to do the informing as he has this web site to back up his own interest in the topic!

  Does 607 B.C. even matter?

  i intend to demonstrate that there is a much stronger and more basic argument against 1914 being the year of commencement for christ's reign than a disagreement between scholars and jws over 607 b.c.

  daniel stated that the prophecy specifically applied to nebuchadnezzar.

  what if nebuchadnezzar represented...nebuchadnezzar?

  No 607 does not really matter for the loyal diehard dub - if it suits them they will minimize its significance and just say Jeheovahs organizations knows best. In fact there are some that will say "Well if the GB says black is white, then black must be white"

  ...which is what makes it impossible to discuss these things with them. "Scholar" ("celebrated WT Scholar") is one of these. There is no point. I think when people leave the JWs, it has little or nothing to do with realising the doctrine is wrong. It has to do with other things, falling in love with "worldly" (normal) life, seeing good people shunned for some minor offense, seeing hypocrisy, being DFed, etc. Only then can they see thru the clouds, and see the ridicolousness of the doctrine. That`s when they start finding out about 607 vs 587, 1874, 1914, 1925, 1975, 1995, etc.

  Disfellowship article, ideas please

  i have written an article for my parents.

  they are somewhat influential in the org and i am trying to convince them to push for changes to current disfellowshipping policy, not that i hold out too much hope.

  anyway, i would like what i have written checked for accuracy.

  Even today, many JWs when pressed on the matter say shunning is too strong and even my ex-wife who is a JW talks to me, and not just about 'family business.; My JW parents ignore the rule

  Yes, I`ve seen that to be the case too. The problem is, that the policy of shunning varies from congregation to congregation, and from family to family, within a congregation. Those JWs that are very sincere in their beliefs, and are actually living the way the WT tells them to, will shun DFd family members. While in others, often "looked up to" JW-families, often with elders, they actually won`t shun a DFd family member. They are often hypocrites, having the perfect front, while having contact with DFed family members in secret. And then the other families, who try to be like the elder-families, shun their DFed family members, in an effort to "be like" the more theocratic and perfect elders family. So, the result is that nice, non-hypocritical, faithful JWs, shun their loved ones, while others don`t. That`s the irony of it.

  That picture was the biggest piece of BS I have ever seen. You could have seen that dove-eagle, or whatever you called it, in any cloud. And I didn`t see a "sleeping black child", or someone wrapped in a river of fire, at all. And whatever Jesus said about signs in the sky, I doubt he meant "signs" in a sky formation, which is something everyone can see, all the time. Two buddies of mine saw the most amasing things in the skies, while on an acid-trip. Dragons fighting, heavenly beings in horse-and-wagons, armies of angels, etc (the interesting part is that they actually saw the same things...I suspect that they were talking while watching it, though, and thereby having a "shared" vision). You can see anything in the skies, JC, especially when you`re "under the influence". I think that might be a hell of a whole lot more interesting than your BS photograph, though, because there`s nothing in your photograph.

  All in all: I think you need help. Go see a psychiatrist, dude.

  that's what i was told when i called 718-560-5600 and asked a brother in the service department about all the flip flops on blood and other doctrines over the past 50 years.

  not once did he mention 'new light' or 'old light'.

  then he became a little confused when i mentioned that a lot of 'worldly' people are encouraging the jw's to compare "new light' with 'old light' because a lot of it is complete reversals and turn-arounds that are circularly oriented.

  LoL, Honesty. That`s so cool. Well, did he give you this "logical explanation", then? Or was it all stuttering? Maybe next time, you could pretend you`re a JW in doubt, because you were reading thru some old magasines, and found all the flip-flops, or and "apostate" colleague at worked has informed you on all this. Keep up the good work!

  JC, this whole phenomenon has a name: It`s called

  pareidolia (payr.eye.DOH.lee.uh) n. The erroneous or fanciful perception of a pattern or meaning in something that is actually ambiguous or random

  ..it`s actually quite common. The mind is constantly looking for patterns, to try and make sense of the world around us. In doing so, it sometimes interprets things erroneously, you saw Jesus in the skies, I`ve seen Satan in the bottom of my coffee mug. Nothing really strange about that.

  And you also mentioned that the WT had this picture. That may be so. Those guys collect all sorts of pictures, to use in their publications. You can read some about that here:

  LoL, I can understand you got scared and had a biblical vision, waking up in a dumpster with a hangover from hell, and that dark cloud in the sky, JC. I think I`ve had those myself, I used to drink hard thru my late teens and most of my twenties. But you still didn`t answer the real question: Do you believe you are the Messiah?   i recently learnt about the pastafarians (not rastafarians).

  they believe the universe was made by him, the fsm (flying spaghetti monster).

  sounds like a sensible alternative to christians to me... .

  Hm, you know that picture of the flying spaghetti monster...what if you threw in a sausage on top there, in between the two meatballs? I think that might add some masculinity to his deity.

  Anyway, I belong to the meatballs that were thrown out of heaven after they revolted against the tyranny of the FSM. Our sacraments are much cooler, we throw tomato sauce all over each other, and then we have orgies.
