607 bc and 1914 are based on complete falsehood, and are only borrowed from the adventists and millerites.

The "spank my ass and call me Mary"-comment was actually really appropriate in this thread, imo. Because there certainly is an element of masochism in all of this. Reach back into your JW-mindset for a second: The more you realise that "the Truth" is a lie, the more you will cling to it, thinking "God is testing me, like Job, testing my faith". The more you are abused, lied to, the more you realise something is wrong, this thought will just increase to manifest itself in your mind, until something just cracks, and you eventually walk into the sunlight, seeing that the "Truth" is a lie.

However: Defd is really annoying, and this is the reason: He comes on, spews some JW-propaganda, and then he just leave! People ask him honest, good and logical questions, but he just refuse to answer them. And that`s just really pissing me off, cause it`s so typical JW, you ask them a question, they can`t answer, but are unable to see the significance of the fact that they can`t answer! That makes me so mad and frustrated I just wanna bang my head in a brick wall.

Jesus came to inspect the churches in 1918 - Where does the Bible say THAT?

the watchtower says that jesus came to inspect all the churches in 1918/19 and then chose the bible students to be his chosen ones.. what i want to know is, where does the bible say that jesus was going to do any inspection at all?

let alone a special inspection in the year 1918!.

this "inspection", upon which the watchtower obtains all of its authority, sounds like something added to the bible!

Up until 1929 they were teaching that Jesus took rule in 1884.

Hm, I think it was 1874, wasn`t it? Anyway, the doctrine change back then is very interesting, because the (biblical) math puzzle they used to get to 1874, is a completely different one than the one used to get to 1914. The 607-date only emerged after the WTBTS had decided that 1914 was a significant year! It`s interesting and funny that C.T.Russel believed to his death in 1916 that Armageddon had allready started in 1914 (as he said repeatedly in his books: 1914 is the end of the times of trouble, not the beginning). The war in Europe was Armageddon in action, in Russels eyes. Must have been very exciting for him, laying at home in his bed, gloating over "the kingdom to come", while young European men were slaughtered in the trenches in France and Belgium.

Anyway, like Onan he "spilleth his cum on the ground" (or whatever that passage says). What he did at least qualifies as masturbation, doesn`t it? Or maybe it`s more like a masturbation/fornication-combo... So I get hasseled by my mom and an elder for that at 13, and this guy is let off that easily? He must have been better at raising his hand at the meetings than I used to be (my arm was always so tired...)... I can just picture this guy at the meeting with the elders: (with a southern accent): "I did not have sex with that woman...miss..." And the fact that he made sure he got to the elders before her, to tell his side first, that`s just so pathetic, like a kid running to his mom first, to blame the other kids for the broken window.I`m at a loss of words. What a looser!

OutOfTheBox, that story just really pissed me off! Hypocricy at it`s worst! The "funny" thing is that this "brother" probably never even once thought about how God would look at his behaviour, he was just concerned with not being DFed. Tell your friend that if God exists, this "brother" is the one going to get it, on judgement day, not her! Theres a good german word for both these elders and this "brother": Ûntermensch!

That`s only 99% of the people on the board, Bethel-boy! - most of them are apostates (as the are not JWs anymore, and thereby, by JWs own definition, "apostates"), and some of these apostates are disfellowshipped. So why are you here?! I`ll say it out loud for you: You`re here to "save" those you can, for "the Truth" (the Lie).

And you STILL haven`t responded to Annies question!!! How do you expect to "save" anyone when you can`t even answer her logical and good question! Surely there must be an answer to her questions somewhere in you litterature! If you can`t come up with one yourself, call one of your elders and ask it!

Who said they (the WTb&ts) were "the righteous one"? Well, they did that themselves, didn`t they? That`s not "righteousness" defd, it`s selfrighteousness! - and that is something completely different!!

Where to Start?

i'm an inactive jw that wants to begin my critical study of this religion and make a comparison between this faith and mainstream christianity.

in addition to catching the wtbts in its lies, changing doctrines, and stuff critical to leaving the faith, i also want to get a historical perspective on everything.

...especially the "Large list of Predictions"-part. It takes a couple of days to read thru though, it`s incredible how much crap they`ve spewed out over the years.

What Bible(s) should I use?

Any Bible would do, except the NWT, which isn`t really a translation of the Bible, it`s only a tampering with certain passages, which they changed so that it would fit their doctrine better. If you want to compare the two kinds (the Bible and this heresy they call the NWT), it`s not easy to spot, just compare first: All passages describing Jesus death` (cross vs stake), then all passages describing the nature/divinity (or not, according to the NWT) of Christ and all passages where either God, Jesus and or the holy ghost is mentioned. Those passages are, oddly enough (...), the only ones that are significantly different from any other Bible-translation, which you will see when comparing any other kind of (low-tense in relation to JW-doctrine vs Christian faith) passages.

Must be pretty confusing, right? Defd also got engaged in the thread by Girl Interrupted. The G-I-thread was probably just his taste, a young, probably insecure girl (everyone on their way out are insecure), just the kind of prey for him to stalk, and pull back in!! Like a damn vulture, that`s what he is. ANd then he just pisses off when he can`t stand the heat, or whenever he gets a question he can`t find an answer to in his WT-mags. Pathetic. And when/if someone calls him pathetic, he would (if he even bothers) respond to that by saying "well I`m sorry you feel that way. All I can do is pray for you bla bla bla", a statement that really says "Jehovah is gonna kill you and all the rest of you apostates". God, people like this makes me sick.

Oh, that`s right. You only "answer" those that are obviously still weak and fragile in their new-found freedom and (finally) sane lifestyle, in your attempts at getting them back in the "truth". That would be something, wouldn`t it? Showing up at KH with a former apostate. "Oh, the power of the truth". Anyway, you don`t answer anyone that asks difficult questions, you can only answer the WT-questions at the end of each article (the "find the answers in the article"-type, the kind of teaching that third graders in school get). And people on this forum are a bit smarter than that (to say the least)
