  what were some rude things people said or did to you?

  i remember once this guy who farted loudly several times in quick succession and then apologised to those present in the room by saying: oh had some coke that's where the gases came from, don't worry they are not the smelly meaty ones.

  This is how they got me. I hadn't been to meetings in over 3 years. No phone calls or any other concern over my spiritual well being (gag) until I dared move back to my hometown. Apparently this was a big NoNo and they D'fd me. Quote "To make an example of you to others in the hall" Whatever They couldn't grasp the concept that I that was fine with not having anything to do with them.

  he, and his family are going through a tough time right now.

  he got a call that his dad has a tumor, and also found something in his liver, believed to be cancer.

  i just wanted everyone to let him know we are all here for him and his family!.

  Oh Sweetie I am so sorry! I remember when you posted about giving your Dad a birthday gift. Try not to be too hard on yourself over the past. You were doing what you thought you had to do at the time. Now you have a good memory about celebrating with your Dad.

  Plus a great pic! Coloured tissue on the top of the bag and everything!! That's my trick as I'm all thumbs when it comes the wrapping paper and don't even get me started on the tape issues that plague me.

  Strange but TRUE

  ha ha i was laughing just now, had a strange memory.. when stepdad was away and/or when mum was playing the male role of jw head of household she used to cover her head.

  anything...a hat, a scarf, tea towel (no lie!!)..

  this was i think from the reasoning book or something, but yeh...covering her head out of respect for jehovah.

  Since we had numerous elderly in the hall there was always a ready supply of these available.

  Ditto on the cloth diapers, kleenex, paper towel from the bathroom etc. Since this happened week after week you would think someone would purchase a cute beanie or maybe a jaunty beret for the occasion.

  It is amazing, God forbid you tell anyone about a pedophile, but if you think that someone is apostate tell EVERYONE.

  This burns me so bad!! I was warned so many times not to even whisper about (admitted) child abusers yet all the gossip (false- completely false) could fly around about me just fine.

  You mean to tell me, normal people don't get married at 17 or 18?

  as a witness, most if not all of my friends were married by 18, with many woman married by 17. it was so normal, that when i left the religion and met all these people married in their 20's and later, that it seemed like they were starting late.

  i actually was a late person in getting married, i was 23. i remember being one of the few people my age in the congregation, not married yet.

  i actually remember thinking, where am i going to find someone to marry, that is not yet taken.

  I had two cousins get engaged while still in high school and get married a few months after graduating. One had a baby right away and struggles with money all the time as neither have an eduacation and can only get low paying jobs. The other was divorced after a few years. The whole congo saw that coming.

  Whenever I see JW's out and about that married young they both look so desperately unhappy with each other, It's very sad, they're trapped.

  I thought about her (and all those other North-American non-US citizen posters here!) when I went to Canada in March (yes, I know, I know, it's Nova Scotia but North of the Mason Dixon line is all the same to me!)
