No. I tried numerous times as kid to have prayers answered but nada. Reinforced my belief that it was fake.

prayer topics seem to be the bandwagon of the moment so i'm jumping on!
seriously, has anyone here asked for something specific in prayer and actually gotten what they asked for?
what convinces you that you wouldn't have got it in any case?

i just finished a 970+ page book this weekend, a breath of snow and ashes, and now i'm bummed.
i miss claire, jamie, brianna, roger, jemmy, ian, fergus, and marsali already.
it will be one to two years before i find out what other surprising twists are in store for the time traveling fraser family.. the lord of the rings was the same way.
I think about all the characters from the Harry Potter series for days after finishing a book. I was also attached to Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne as a kid.

I read a lot as a kid, I would get so absorbed in books, the characters and their worlds, It was a way to occupy my mind and calm myself down when life wasn't going well. The library and bookstores are some of my favourite places to this day.
here i sit, in my public library, typing away a computer from a hot nasty seat.. but i wouldn't be anywhere else in the world right now.
(okay, maybe a couple of other places).
i have to be at work in 40 minutes, and its a 15 minute drive from here, so lets not expect a novel of a post.. yesterday was my birthday, and they did a little cake thing for me and all that which was nice, but otherwise, nothing is new.. my mother seems to be cooling off, but lets just say that the "excrement flinging fan" hasn't been turned off yet.. i'm 18 now, and nothing is different.
But, if you can sit down and write out a letter, i'd like that. I'd like to know peoples opinions, even if they are horribly wrong.
You seem to have a well developed bullshit detector so I haven't worried too much about some of the bad advice you've gotten.
Once you've got the PO box I"ll compose some lovely "words of wisdom" for you.
Stay strong, I'm glad your Mom is cooling down a bit. It's a huge shock for JW moms to find out their kids are rejecting the entire reason for living, they take it very, very personal.

hehe i hope thats how its spelt.. if you had family members that were elders did you ever notice the paranoia they had????
or maybe its my dad in particular?????.
they things he accused me off was unbelievable, we were never allowed to do anything to ruin his standing as an elder.
.........and my room got searched very, very often. All the drawers would be emptied and flipped over to make sure nothing was taped to the bottom. Closet gone through, shoeboxes etc. They would even check under my mattress. I lost all kinds of music, books, magazines, private papers etc.. Clothes would disappear. I used to get so mad because I would ask about where my stuff was going and they would deny it all.
I quickly learned to shut my mouth and never bring anythhing into the house I ever wanted to see again.

My parents were like that (no elder's or MS in my family). My dad didn't like for me to sleep over at friend's houses unless it was a group thing. My mom got her friends to follow me to check up on my stories about where I said I was. Phone calls got listened in on. I had one friend who's mom put a baby moniter in her room so she could moniter our conversations. How creepy was that?
As a result of this treatment I am absolutely paranoid about putting my inner-most thoughts in writing anywhere. I will *never* keep a journal or diary... never.
This got me as well. I will never keep a diary or journal either. Nothing was private in my house. Nothing.

yesterday after school i had to go work on a project with friends.
mom said be home by 5, but there was a huge accident a mile from where i live, and i sat on the road for like 10 - 12 minutes, and was 5 minutes late getting home.
mom was there (didn't go to work- guess why) and she was pissed.
I am very concerned for you Richie.
Your mother is using emotionaly abusive tatics with you, this is what she knows and what she is probably being encouraged or prompted to do by others in the hall. Unfortunately this is very common to teens who leave the JW's. It happened to me, it happened to my friends.
The cases I heard about where the CPS was contacted made matters much worse and the results lasted for much longer. The action of bringing (or attempting to bring) charges against the parents for emotional abuse and neglect served as a catalyst for the hall as a whole to vilify the children invovled as being coldhearted liars. By being branded as such, any and all abuse was immediately dismissed as being false. This puts the parents in a favourable light and they got nothing but sympathy and support for further abusive tatics. Why? Because the hall as a whole had been put on the defensive and now they all felt justified in covering up, denying and continuing these abusive tatics.
It's a very sensitive situation that needs all angles thought out before acting on it.
You know your mother better then anyone on here obviously, if you want to continue a relationship with her in the future your actions in the next few weeks that will help determine that. Will the odds of a mother/son relationship increase by taking the high road and attempting to make peace? Or will she react better by getting a shock of being charged and told by authorities that she is abusive? Only you can begin to know how she will react.
I am sorry for you because I went thru this and thought I was going to die. If you need to chat or vent please don't hesitate to PM me.

hubby tells me the new study book will soon be covering the cross vs stake issue.
the wtbts primarily clings to the stake based on word origins.
i thought it might be fun to collect other word origins, and ask our jw friends if they also, should be taken literally?.
This from the site above,
Geek is actually a very old word. It is a variant of geck, a term of Low German/Dutch origin that dates in English to 1511. It means a fool, simpleton, or dupe.
Interesting, very interesting
