Do you suppose any of them report time spent here as witnessing?

In defense of J-Dubs who post here, AKA JWD opposers!!!
by Check_Your_Premises ini just got an im from afin.
apparantly she can't post right now.
i don't know what she did exactly, so i can't speak to her specific offense, but in general i think the absolutely wrong thing to do is ban j-dubs who come here to debate.. .

Does your barber or hair stylist use a straight razor?
by Elsewhere inthe other day i was getting my hair cut.
after she was finished using the clippers to trim the back of my neck she pulled out a straight razor to scrape the hair on my neck even closer.
i just about jumped out of the chair when i saw her try to trim me with that thing!

Come to think of it, my barber uses a folding handle much like a traditional straight razor, but puts a single-edge disposable blade into it - new one every time. So I guess that takes care of any health issues.
Unless of course he's epileptic, has a sudden fit and slashes you to bits. So far that hasn't happened. -

Do You Hide The Fact That You Were/Are A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus ini don't.
it reminds me every day of what i was was and not what i can enjoy.

Took me a long time to be willing to mention to people that I was raised in a JW family. Don't know if it was just part of putting it behind me, or to avoid that startled look you'd get (as if you'd announced you were a Moonie, or Scientologist).
I'm fine with it now though, but I think because it's WAY in my past. -

1975
by Grouper in.
i am researching 1975 and i was curious to ask any that served as elder back then in the wtbts ever issue a directive to the congregations to stop or discourage believers from selling their property, cashing out retirements, early marriage, quiting jobs, etc., etc.................. thanks

Actually now that I think about it, two families bought adjoining land up on a small mountain a few hours away. I'm not 100% sure if the second family actually sold out and moved there; I think they did also but I'm not certain.
My family used to up and visit, and I do recall at some point they sold again and moved away. It wasn't until much later that I learned that's why they had moved there in the first place. -

I was very young at the time, but I do recall that it was never said specifically that 1975 was IT. Just that, y'know, don't be surprised if it is.
Kinda like Dad on Christmas Eve saying 'Gee, I wonder who's going to be getting a new bike tomorrow!' (Except of course I never heard that personally at my house.)
One family we knew sold everything and built itself a house in a fairly remote place, to wait out the fire and brimstone showers in safety. -

Read the Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom
by toladest ini had a 2 hour discussion with my jw brother (a real breakthrough as far as association) and he said he had problems with the dateline show.
i asked him what the problems were and he said that for one the watchtower building was "altered" to say "read the watchtower daily".
i told him it did not say that but i could not remember the exact quote.

I think this is what you're after: http://community.webshots.com/photo/32955355/32956150iwpTtk#
It's just one shot among many from what appears to be a happy JW posting pics of Bethel. (We have printing presses! Be this a miracle?)
Here's another good one: http://community.webshots.com/photo/32955355/35317076LPQsvM
That one has both 'read the bible daily' as well as 'read the watchtower and awake' on the same side of the building.
The complete album here: http://community.webshots.com/album/32955355NAtDdh
Here's one from a different source that's less clear: http://www.purdy.info/gallery/nyc03/ags
There are more neighborhood shots and another WT shot here: http://www.purdy.info/gallery/nyc03?page=7
But ignore the apostate photo caption - "One Watchtower building (among many) in Brooklyn - the Jehovah's Witnesses bought a LOT of real estate in the late 1800's after making a killing from their "Miracle Wheat" - lest it stumble ye.) -

Yes, mine uses one for trimming but then again he's a 'barber' not a 'hair stylist.'
You sure you're from Texas?
(I'd insert a winking icon here but I don't know how...) -

My apartment building has door staff to keep beggars, peddlers and evangelists from wandering in uninvited. Since I live far from where I was an active JW, I wouldn't recognize anyone but I do occasionally walk by JWs on the street hawking magazines. Funny though - they don't seem to actually talk to anyone, just stand there holding them (and logging those hours, presumably).

Another Xenophobe's Guide To The USA:
by Englishman inbritish xenophobes' guide to the usa
recent intelligence from spanish agent "columbus" has indicated that the hoped-for express sailing route between britain and the tea plantations of ceylon and india is blocked by a large land mass going under the name "the united states of america.
" the following advisory for european travellers was originally compiled by the british secret service, but the recent glasnost in eastern europe has made accessible far more comprehensive and accurate archives from the russian committee for state security.

Funny in parts but a bit out of date.
I called the State Department to see if they have a similar guide for the UK, but they said they only compile them for strategically significant countries.
(Just teasing - I lived in England for years in the '90s and found it a very charming little island.) -

Do you ever weigh yourself before and after you use the toilet?
by Elsewhere in.
it can be very entertaining to see how much you, well, "lost".
(it also helps if you have a digital scale that can measure fractions of a pound)
-
melmoth
Yes, I have.
Next question?
