  Daughters Prom Pic

  here is a picture of my daughter on prom night last month.

  I'm a bit confused (so what else is new at my age!). I was a baptised JW in 1969, went to my Senior Prom with a JW date and the after Prom Party thrown by one of the kids in my graduating class. My sister (13 years younger than me) went to her Senior Prom (I made her dress) and a week later went to her boyfriend's (he got baptised that summer and they are now married and yes I made her dress for that one also). I left the area and started to fade around '76 (still read literature etc.). I guess things changed after that and the kids weren't allowed to go any more???? I know now the congo where I grew up (my mother and sister still pioneer there) and the surrounding congos have a formal dance every May for all of the teenagers.....to make up for not going to their Prom!

  Great Shades of Footloose...is it the Prom or the association they don't like?

  Your daughter, her friends and their escorts looked gorgeous and I'm sure had a great time and did nothing out of line! And I don't think 200 pictures were enough! Next big occassion you might want to double the number!

  I think they can be friends. I have male friends I've had for over 35 years. We've been friends through each others marriages, having children, divorces, deaths in the family, etc. I think a lot of it has to do with where you are in life when you meet, your age and self-control. As a teenager in the 60's, you know the "Free Love" and "Pill" generation......I didn't and still don't believe in just sleeping around...so I don't look at each male I come into contact with as a possible partner and I'm careful to make sure that I don't send out the wrong signals!

  Phone Witnessing...

  in my congregation, there is a well established group that does phone witnessing every thursday.

  the society actually encourages us to try other avenues of ministry, however it seems like phone witnessing is hurting more than its helping.... even i, the covert apostate, don't mind phone witnessing.

  i mean whats not to love?air conditioningfoodsitting around and talkinggirlsdid i mention food?.

  Thank goodness and Bellsouth for caller ID, this way I can see it's the Kingdom Hall calling and don't have to answer.

  For crying out loud........I stop at the market at 7:30 a.m. on the way to work and these elderly sisters surround my car, I walk two blocks to pick up lunch and they're on the street corners...if they do happen to knock on my door, I can answer or ignore....but this is too much!

  Do they still sit with the obituaries and write letters to the relatives???

  Thank you for sharing.......I came back to this site to the last three pictures. They were all wonderful, particularly the last with all of the couples!

  You only took 200 pictures?????? What's the matter the store ran out of film or your memory card to small???

  as you know, he posted to us on wednesday morning (after the tuesday night vigil) saying that he felt very bad.

  claire ended up having to go home from work because he was feeling so weak and having some trouble breathing.. here are her emails.

  i had stated before that i escaped a worldly abusive man and went into the 'truth'.

  i got baptised after a year and then a few young men were approaching me as 'marriage' material.

  when i think back i was pushed into baptism because it was time, i had been studying 'long enough' as the girl who studied with me said.. the ministerial servants came to the house 'with the perspective man' in tow.

  I am sooo glad I faded in the 70's, I missed a lot of this madness! I'm also so sorry to hear about your forced marriage, but as you've said you were at least blessed (I still believe in Jehovah, but not the WTB&TS) to have your children!

  I hate to say this, but having dated a former Morman for the past twelve years......the Morman's have it all over the JW's when it comes to shunning. Picture this, the man I'm dating is 65 his father was excommunicated when he was 8 or 9 years old (56 years ago), has been dead for twenty years and when we went to visit his hometown in Mississippi, so of his older family and family friends mentioned his late father's excommunication and not attending his funeral because of it!

  By the way, he was excommunicated all those years ago because he questioned those in the organization higher up than him and he was a deacon (?) Go Figure!

  Do you ever feel guilty?

  after reading hs topic of shunning, it got me thinking - how many people have i hurt over the years by shunning, marking, labeling as "bad association"?

  when i hear the stories of my fellow posters, it really makes me regret how super rightoeus, guillible and judgemental, i was back then, when i had no real life experience or any right to judge anyone elses choices or mistakes in life.. i know i can't change the past, but i am sincerely sorry to anyone i shunned back then and although i know my family will never change their belief in the "troof" i will always make it a point to let them know just how damaging the practice of shunning really is and how it can even lead some one to suicide.. i am sure if i had put a bullet in my head when i was dfed their view on the "troof would be different today.. by the way they never shunned me.

  "family business" clause.. is anyone else guilty of this?

  I usually got in hot water because I wouldn't shun. One of the reasons I left was because I don't feel the WTB&TS should have such control on our lives. I figured if Jehovah saw and knew everything....then I'd just talk directly to him and he's have to judge me accordingly when the time was right...what right did the "Committee" have to sit in judgement?
