  Did u convert to JW because u were ignorant, arrogant or some other reason?

  to believe the watchtower story takes a high degree of arrogance.

  to think you were so special that god drew you to his organization for salvation.

  but 6 billion other humans deserve destruction, is placing huge value on your own importance.. if you converted to being a jw do you think you were sucked in because you did not know the full story (ignorance) or was it because you really wanted to believe you were more special than everyone else (arrogance)?

  It's interesting that you say your Mom has a controlling personality and that contributed to her joining, but in reality you give up so much control in your life!

  For me, it was probably wanting to belong somewhere, and find better answers than what the Catholic church was dishing out (not dumping on them, it's just what I was raised as). I came from a big family (8 kids, i was 7th) and surely felt lost in the crowd. So the friendliness at the KH appealed to me, as did the appearance (then) that dubs had all the answers.

  So let's see, happy life, fulfilled spiritually, great family and friends, and worst case senario I am saved even if I am wrong. WIN WIN

  He says that now, but what if he, his happy wife or child need a blood transfusion? What if his happy wife isn't really happy at all and leaves the borg? What if his child decides as an adult not to follow his parents' faith? I'm sure most people here were happy at one time in the borg, but I wouldn't bet against the future.

  Next Step in getting the WTS to release my personal files

  several months ago i requested my personal files from the wtsthey refusedi took it to the office of the privacy commission, who sent them a letter requesting the wts send me my informationthe watchtower society refused again saying that they are not covered by the australian privacy act 1988the privacy commission was going to close the case, but i convinced them not to take the wts at their word, so they sent a letter requesting more informationthe wts wrote back that they are not covered, on the technicality that their $16 million australian income comes from donations not turnover.

  i just spoke to the privacy commission today and they do not agree with the wts's argument.

  they are requesting more information from the australian bethel, and are prepared to put money into legal advice to examine any further argumentation that the watchtower provides.

  Big announcement after all DC have ended?

  i was told by a reliable source that the organization will be making a "big announcement" at the end of the summer when all the dcs have ended.

  has anyone else heard this?

  maybe this is the "new light" they have alluded to in recent wt study articles?

  yep, my wife and i took our two boys to tgi friday's last night, and of all the tables to sit at where do you think the hostess sat us next to??

  i only knew the young woman, as she attended the same congregation i had attended (past tense for about 6 years now).

  anyway, i feeling of total dred fell upon me.

  I know why it bothers some of us to run into them: I hate being gossip fodder for those who used to be my friends!

  Can't you just hear them: Wing Commander was at this restaurant, and he had this tattoo as big as day on his arm! He must be doing drugs/with a gang/living in sin (take your pick).

  They are so judgemental, so pious, so annoying!!

  i have a strong reason to believe that the change that will be announced in next few days among jehovah's witnesses will bring a major "refining" work among its members.

  take a note of this:

  if are not regular in meetings and service of field than you're signalling that you're no longer a jehovah's witness.

  Yes, I could see them using it as a scare tactic, they would never really follow through on DA'ing everyone. I bet there won't even be a formal announcement of this "policy", the rumor itself would be enough to get some empty seats filled at the KH.

  Couple of JW Sisters came to my door - mini rumble

  first of all want to thank you all for informing me of the good the bad and smurfly about jws - i was so stoked when these two sister's knocked on my door.

  i apologise now - i was a smug git - in fairness they conducted themselves impeccably in the face of me.

  this is how it went (paraphrased to highlight 'clever' bits i said and downplay swathes of conversation when i said silly things.

  This made me laugh! How many times are dubs being judged by how many they "brought into the truf"?

  And no, we are just here with a message that we would gladly cram down your throat on a weekly basis until you either vomit us out of your home, or we take over your life and independent thinking!
