  circuit ass-embly

  just a few notes.

  the entire ass-embly was dealing with materialism or higher education; apparantly one leads to the other.

  why cant the wts realize that higher education is not just a means to get rich or ahead in this system, but a means to have a career outside of janitorial work?

  Materialism is a character flaw that is not made any worst by a better education. In fact, I would guess that if you are busy studying and working hard to learn you don't have time and energy to worry about what the latest toy is that is being sold. You also have your mind on more important things than just trying to impress someone with your wealth. The other thing, the Society worries about is the time that is taken away from the ministry if a person has a carreer. I know of many professional people who work at home on a part time/ full time basis, with no traveling to an office. These jobs are paying very well and the employers are happy to have such skilled people stay with their companies working from home. Many witnesses who have gotten an education are enjoying some of these benefits and actually are spending time in the ministry, what is sad, is so many others who never got an education have to work for much lower wages, which requires often times working more than one job just to make ends meet. Many young ones start out pioneering out of high school only to end up woking more hours and having less time in the ministy than those who they critized for getting an education. So many things wrong with the Society's slant on higher education, it isn't even funny anymore, just plain sad.

  Sometimes I miss the friendships and good times......

  there was a jw funeral i attended this past saturday at the congregation where i grew up and where my mom still attends.

  most all of my childhood friends were there.

  they had a movie/slide presentation playing at the back of the funeral home of different events, family members, congregation members, etc.

  Everything you wrote could of been from my memories and thoughts. That is exactly what I miss too. Seems like once you move on either as a JW or not, those childhood relationships and feelings are hard to come by. I find myself not trying as hard as I should, perhaps that is the answer to the issue.

  i know that i'm new here...and maybe this topic has already been covered.

  i keep reading posts from members that make referrence to going to a meeting or going out in service..... holy crap?!?!?

  what percentage of the people here still actually consider themselves as witnesses?????

  Gordon,

  It is very easy to understand why some do this. Many are plagued by the insisting of the elders to go out in service, keep in mind, they keep track of all JWs activity on a monthly basis and special designations (name calling) (irregular and inactive) for those who fall short and miss a month or heaven forbid 6 months. How do people like myself knock on doors...with much trouble. After awhile you become expert in doing very little, for all intensive purposes meaningless; however, it keeps elders and others from bothering you. So you ask why the pretense, why do something you don't want to and why serve an organization you no longer feel holds the truth. Because of family and life time friends, if you can't understand this, than you were never a real friend to anyone!

  my wife said making love to a 70 year old is like playing pool with a rope.. she was just kidding, at least i hope she was.. ken p..

  You have Catholics and JWs mixed up. JWs have never had an issue with marrital sex for pleasure (well - so long as you don't get too carried away with how you do it). I think the dogma from the JWs is more balanced than the Dogma from the Catholic Church that bans birth control methods and make their Clergy vow not to marry and have sex within that arrangment.

  The Watchtower Society—a Woman's Perspective

  any information regarding it would be appreciated.. the way the sisters dressed according to the way the society viewed women what did you.

  think about there standards regarding the dress code?.

  Now as for the breastfeeding thing, I have to say I HATE seeing someone do that. I feel nauseated. It's not that I'm a prude or think it's a bad thing to do. My jw mother breastfed my siblings until age 5 "because Moses did". The real reason she did it is because she wanted perpetual babies to control forever.

  Seeing my new born infant daughter nurse colored my reaction to nursing mothers like nothing else could have. She showed pure innocent enjoyment and contentment that no bottle could have duplicated. For any woman who wishes to do this, it is a gift to their infant and should be encouraged and yes, I agree, bathrooms are not the place for this activity, this is when women should have a say within the organization and why men are not equiped to make all decisons.

  Any trouble for faders going back and forth; JWD and the KH

  do any people trying to fade out of the organization have any trouble coming to this forum and going to the kingdom hall?.

  What helps me is to not talk about religion or JW issues, when they come up, I listen quietly and try to change the subject to a secular subject as quickly as I can. I of course do this because, I enjoy most witnesses so long as they are not spewing out that nonsense they believe so much.

  News about the end at the yearly business meeting

  that's right folks, the fds in convinced that we are so deep into the end of the system of things they feel it will happen at any moment.. it's funny that this should be taken serious since this sort of thing has been said many times in the past.

  however, many of those at that meeting are so drawn in that they believe it as if they saw god himself speak it.. this came from someone who attended, perhaps someone else has direct quotes or other tidbits they can share with us.

  Disfellowship Removal

  i am not a jw but my wife was raised as one.

  we were married about 14 months ago and she wants to re-join the organization in a different location from the disfellowing location.

  i believed she was kicked out 14 years ago for comitting adultery to get out of a bad marriage (her story).

  Is she doing this only because she wishes to be able to see and talk to her family?

  Or, does she believe it is the truth and wants to be back in the religion, either way, do what the other posters suggested and make sure she spends some time reading other materials besides what the Society publishes.

  Is there a new round of Bethel layoffs or is it just the continuation .....

  i was just told that a young man from our area that has been at bethel for a couple of yrs.

  he didn't work in the book making process either , he was a trained mechanic working on bethel vehicles.

  i was just wondering if this is part of the original layoffs or if this is in addition to those ?
