  My grandmother on my dad's side was a fortune teller. So obviously my mom (the JW) wanted nothing to do with her. She even threw out my brother's teddy bear that was given to him because she claimed that it would make noises at night.

  XJWs and Christianity

  not sure if this is the right place for this.... just wondering about this.

  it seems to me that most folks who leave "the truth" tend to go athiest or remain in some type of christianity.. anyone know of (or are) xjws who have gone a different route (i.e.

  eastern religions, neo-pagan, wicca, etc.).

  I'm neither an aethiest or a christian. Just a little spiritual. I believe there's something out there that put us here but I feel my purpose is just to enjoy my time here and not worry about what's next. When it happens it happens.

  Crazy Californian Witnesses...

  but there is a general consensus among my friends and some witnesses that i talk to that there is something almost inherently wrong with californian witnesses.

  It was well know as a hot bed of sin and debauchery. You only had to be in the same room as someone from there and you would either end up with a STD or pregnant lol plus they'd probably steal your wallet.

  I always heard that too actually. I was told apparently alot of the grooming requirements aren't requirements everywhere.

  I remember in our congregation in CT we had a brother that had a beard and they let him keep it for awhile because he was from Maine and it was acceptable up there. I always laughed at the beard thing because almost every picture in their publications showing ancient times depicts men with beards. WWJD?

  That woman is nuts. But I think it was all a set up. Months later she was spotted at various hollywood events, like award shows. She's obviously been tempted by the flashy world of Satan.

  I feel so bad for you. It always hurts when your parents threaten shunning. It's just so wrong and un-human like.

  Sometimes reverse shunning works. I've had to do it on two occasions. The last time was last summer when I flew her out to visit me on my own dime. It was her first time on a plane. Her first night here I held a cocktail party at my friends house up in the hills with my closest friends. She had a great time. The next morning on our way out the door to go siteseeing, I guess she was feeling guilty about associating with "wordly" sodomites and she said that "I really need to do something about my life" and "she shouldn't even by talking with me". I just gave her an evil look as we got in the car. The whole ride she kept apologizing and asking me to say something. I drove to the airport, stopped infront of her terminal and said "what you said was so completely rude and unappreciative of what i've done. the next time you do that, you're back on the plane" Totally fixed the problem.

  as i am walking down the sidewalk to my car, two men in suits with bookbags walking towards me try to start a conversation by saying "excuse me" with big smiles.

  i just walked by them and said "i'm an apostate".

  More Good News On The Family Front

  a couple of weeks ago i posted something saying how it was shocking that my mom was missing meetings to bring my little brother to school competitions, etc etc.... so last night i called my mom to see how buying her first house was going.

  we talked and talked about everything.

  i told her i went and saw brokeback mountain and she asked me about it, and sounded slightly interested.

  A couple of weeks ago I posted something saying how it was shocking that my mom was missing meetings to bring my little brother to school competitions, etc etc...

  So last night I called my mom to see how buying her first house was going. We talked and talked about everything. I told her I went and saw Brokeback Mountain and she asked me about it, and sounded slightly interested. So then I asked her what she did that day. It was Thursday the day when they have their school and service meeting. She listed a whole bunch of stuff and then said she didn't go to the meeting because they were too tired and have way too many things to do.

  YAY! I really hope they're making their way out.
