  it is clear that there is no scriptural basis for disapproving of facial hair, coloured shirts or women wearing trousers at meetings or while preaching.

  some of these rules seem to be regionally variable, but i think the rules on women's clothing are the same everywhere.. my question is - has there ever been any specific comments on any of these type of rules in any watchtower publication, ever?

  and if not, how do we all know the rules?.

  Just how in God's name does one get stumbled due to a woman wearing slacks?

  I'm sure the person who is stumbled by a woman wearing slacks wouldn't think twice about going in service or out to lunch with a child molester.

  It's all about appearances priorities.

  the debate with my husband over my step-daughter's df has begun, just barely.

  he used a phase about me being "a thinking, reasoning person" and he doesn't understand why i don't "see" bible principles.

  i said that phrase is an insult to me, and then it went sour.

  A "thinking, reasoning person" wouldn't constantly parrot the society's loaded language. They'd be able to think and reason for themselves, and put their comments into their own words.

  Thinking, reasoning persons don't join authoritarian, abusive cults.

  What is the Society's definition of a minor???

  jw husband says that 18 is still a minor according to wt doctrine, so if he has to shun his daughter there are certain things he can still do.

  is this true?

  is there an age where if a child is df'd that certain "allowances" are made (like younger child or child living with you)?

  The Watchtower's definition of a minor depends on what's at stake. It depends on whether you're talking about a person's rights or his obligations. A minor can be baptized and then subjected to the "judicial decisions" of the elders as though he were an adult. An adult, who has the legal right to grow a beard if he wishes, will face sanctions from the elders if he does so.

  It has nothing to do with age. It's all about obedience to the watchtower.

  i have read your posts and am suprised, shocked and disgusted at the fact you still are an active witness who goes to the meetings 70% of the time and at the same time go to apostefests and curse and talk bad about the truth.

  dont you know that the bible said people like you would quietly slip in the congregation and subvert the faith of some?

  are you not afraid of god and jesus?

  In the book of revelations the invitation is set forth as: Let anyone hearing say come, let anyone thirsting come let any one who wishes take lifes water free.

  It says here that the invitation is made to anyone, not only Jehovah's Witnesses.

  i live here with my elderly parents.

  my dad is in his seventies and my mom is in her sixties.

  i don't really in a way consider them elderly, but i guess others perceive them that way.

  Tell them you don't feel comfortable meeting with a bunch of JW men because the organization has a bad reputation of harbouring sex abusers. Insist that a police officer must be present to protect you. If they refuse you can assume your rights will be violated in some way.

  it seems that the watchtower has not learnt any lessons regarding their involvement in the united nations.

  perhaps they think the outcry that a few witnesses made a couple of years ago has died down.

  they have been silent about the united nations for about 3 years until they published an article in the sep 15th watchtower, "walk by faith, not by sight!

  when i was a dub, i called on someone who identified themselves as an "apostate".

  it was on barrington, in toronto canada.

  I live in Toronto, but no JWs ever call on me because I'm a demonized apostate. They think I'll spew green venom at them just before eating their heads in a single gulp. Also, I don't live on Barrington.

  Another poster on this board that I talk to regularly had someone stop by his house and he told them he was an apostate, but he doesn't live on Barrington either.
