she had worked pt for a bank for years while finishing her acctg.
degree and pioneering.
JWs tend to decide beforehand what a desirable outcome to a situation must be. If they get their desired outcome it's "Jehovah's blessing". If not it's "Satan's opposition", which Jehovah permits because they're "being tested". It's guaranteed to keep their heads spinning.
If she thought about it rationally she would realize neither Jehovah or Satan give a damn about her job or if she wastes her time pioneering™ and knocking on doors where no one's home anyway.

i'm not a medical professional - but i feel very strongly about this issue and want to pass it along.. why are so many witnesses so sick?
why do they often seem to be plagued by strange, chronic illnesses - that often appear.
to have a strong psychosomatic element?
Regarding JW illnesses, it does seem that they are plagued with mystery diseases fairly often.
I had my share of mystery illnesses. If I didn't feel like going to the meeting and didn't feel like explaining the real reason to my wife I'd invent some imaginary pain in some imaginary organ or muscle group. Many advantages to doing this.

Next thing you know metatron will start a thread on why JWs gossip so much.
I thought we all knew the answer to that. Hours on end of knocking on doors when no one's home - hell, you have to talk about something. And we all know there's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others.
Besides, we're doing the same thing - gossiping - when we come here.

Excessive stress over a prolonged period of time can lead to health problems. If being a JW is what's causing the stress then getting out might be good for a person's health. On the other hand, leaving the JWs brings on stresses of its own. You can't win.

as numbers and meeting attendance statistics continue to decrease in western lands, do you think the wtbs may someday relax it's current clothing and grooming policies to facilitate better attendance and make the meetings more comfortable?

The society doesn't dictate what we should wear.
So you wear jeans and T-shirts to the meetings? And the elders don't say anything?

it was announced at this week's sm, that next year there will be special conventions for 2006. .
only a "select few" delegates from various countries will be able to go.. they will be hosted in europe.. the qualifications?.
you must currently be a pioneer and have served 15 years or.
It was also announced that individuals who are not invited as delegates should not make their own arrangements, as this causes confusion and problems for the Society.
All the more reason to do it.

it was announced that for the 2006 int'l convention overseas, only pioneers for at least 15 years or elders for atleast 15 years are allowed to be delegates.
has there always been restrictions on who can attend?
i can't remember as it's been so long ago.

It's the same sort of favoritism the society has shown for a long time, they're just becoming more obvious about it. I recall when the "Insight" and "Proclaimers" books were first released they were first distributed to those with titles and some who had been in the cult for a certain number of years. The rest of us lowly publishers™ had to wait several months until more were printed.
I never really wanted to go to an international convention, but I was irritated that the society would dare to tell me where I could and could not go. I almost went to a convention in the Ukraine just to spite them; it would have given me a chance to meet up with some non-JW family there too. I eventually decided not to go because I couldn't get enough time off of work to make the trip worthwhile.

when i was about 16 i had a terrible crush on an older lady (she might have been 30) who was the lovliest person ever.
she had poise, confidence, intelligence, wit, appreciation and culture.
i was just a skinny, shy, geeky kid that she took under her wing.
A former employer saw me cleaning windows one day. Now, he and I used to drink and party alot before I was a JW, going to bars and picking up wimminz. So he came up to me and we started talking and catching up a bit. I told him I had become a JW. His response was,
" WHAT!!!??? YOU??? A JEHOVAH WITNESS??? YOU??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ANYONE BUT YOU!!!!!! HAHAHAHAH!!!"
I didn't take it as a compliment at the time, but I do now.

my sister although not df'd at the time, explored at least one other religion.
she attended regularly and was a sunday school teacher.
i asked her today what was her motivation and asked if she had ever done research about the organization.
While I was a JW I was perceived as a rebellious person. Really, I am not rebellious toward duly constituted authority. But I have a HUGE problem with people who try to assert authority where they in fact have none. That was my biggest problem with elders, and the source of very many conflicts I had with them. They tried to stick their noses in areas of my personal life where they had no business, such as education, employment, the type of car I drove, etc. I wasn't about to take that crap from anyone, and I let them know it in no uncertain terms.
As far as any religion is concerned, they have no authority except that which I give them.
