whats everyones plans.
i am going to relax relax realx.. wife is out of town, so i might go to the bar( just joking) watch alittle football on sunday.
It's Thanksgiving up here, but my family celebrated it last weekend because many of them have to work this weekend. I couldn't make it because I injured my back moving a freezer last Saturday. I live alone so a turkey's a little too big for me, so I bought a duck and I'll make myself a nice dinner.
Also, I will be following Jehovah's command to partake of the fruit of the vine that "makes the heart of mortal man rejoice."

i generally read the watchtower thoroughly but seldom did i read the awake.
were you faithful readers of those rags?
The first few years I read everything. As time went on I realized all the 'positive experiences' were fake. I saw nothing of the sort in the congregation, so I found the magazines depressing, so I stopped reading them entirely.

The watchtower study conductor did that to me once when I didn't raise my hand. The mic was handed to me and I said "I didn't have my hand up." The conductor said "Well, answer anyway!" I said, "NO!" and handed the mic back. Everyone laughed.
It never happened again.

That depends on who you call the "apostates" - the ones who continually change their beliefs, lie, cover up their history, and abuse others - or the ones who call them on it.
He says you will know them by the fruits their fruits.
Indeed. If my fruits were like those of the Watchtower I'd be keeping a low profile so as to avoid drawing attention to myself.
So who would have "Holy Spirit"? Those who expose wrongdoing or those who cover it up?
I don't claim to have "Holy Spirit" now, but I didn't when I was a JW either. And neither does the Watchtower. If they did they wouldn't appoint child abusers as elders.

i think it is time to get of the tms schedule, i haven't given a talk in over a year and don't want to be on the list any more.
do you think the elders would get on my case if i did this?

To give the school it's due, it did me a lot of good, as I was previously terrified of public speaking. It has helped me in my professional life a great deal.
But if you don't wish to be on the school I'd suggest speaking to the school overseer and tell him to remove you from it. That way you go through the stress of telling him only once. If you just keep cancelling all your talks you are subjecting yourself to this every time you're assigned a talk. It stresses everyone else involved too. I remember suggesting this to my ex, as she was often cancelling her talks and went through great stress each time. The last time she ended up walking out of the hall 2 minutes before she was to give her talk, and I had to go over to the school overseer to tell him she was gone.

I'd do it.
3 day weekend as well as less time and cost commuting!

i realize this is totally context and culturally dependent, but the old toronto jw youth scene was quite wild during the years 1984-1994. .
one example, a group of about 40 jw kids would go up to a ski resort (usually mount st.louis/moonstone or blue mountain) over the x-mas week-end.
one year we rented out a block of rooms in a resort close to the ski lodge.
DAMMIT!!! YOU BASTARDS!!!
Why wasn't I invited!!!
I heard about these ski trips after the fact, but I never heard they were that good!
I was rarely invited to anything other than congregation get togethers. The wildest things that happened there was the singing of bloody kingdumb songs!

i know i did.. by meaningful conversations, i mean in-depth discussions about events, news, beliefs.

My guess is that it's a fear of judgement thing. Who wants to disclose their personal likes, dislikes, opinions, etc. when you could be judged for it? It's just not worth it.
I think there's a lot to this statement. I was forever getting counselled for spending time on "outside interests". I soon learned to avoid speaking about any interests or hobbies I had. I'm sure others did the same.

i was talking to someone at my new job - she has known me for about 3 months and had something like 2 five minute conversations with me about the jws.. she said "you do come across as really bitter about it".. (note she is definately not a jw).. it was a real eye opener, because although i try and educate people about the truth of jws, i didn't think i was "bitter".. what about you?

mmm well I wouldn't be so harsh, however, if I'd have had a family member die because of their crazy rules then I would maybe feel differently.
Well, not my family, but that of my ex. 2 dead - One murder and one suicide. And there's much, much more as well.

I think eating out was the most popular subject - but it was mostly arguing about where to go after the meeting. Hockey was another good one. Usually I took an opposing viewpoint just to make it interesting.
