i met my jw wife about 5 years ago.
she da'd shortly after we met and like most people i thought it was terribly strange and wrong that her family shunned her.
for the first two years of our marriage my wife would call her parents on a fairly regular basis.
I believe in shunning. I make it a practice to shun anyone who is an asshole. Once I decided the vast majority of JWs were assholes I decided to shun them, and I advised them of their status when I DA'd.
If the organization has taught me anything worthwhile, it's that "bad associations spoil useful habits". It just took me a while to realize the principle is best applied with them in mind.

well i thought i knew a lot but my x son in law has just been diagnosed with cancer of the tonsils!
they are telling him it is caused by smoking(no surprise here) and drinking!
he does smoke but has quit for years at a time and then gone back.
I've never heard of tonsil cancer before, so I looked it up and found this.

yes i know the standard answer - they want to sell books but hang on a minute.. .
something that has always bothered me is that the average jw is incapable of explaining some of the most basic teachings without a wt book in hand.
after all those years, all that time, all those meetings, why is it so hard to understand and teach to someone else?

I agree it would do little good for active JWs - the society's propaganda machine has done its job and closed the minds of the average JW. But a protest can raise public awareness so people can guard against these wolves in sheeps clothing who come to deceive. W

My ex always did that to me, with a few extra nudges to keep me awake. I had bruises on my ribs after every assembly.

Wasn't Moses married to a Midianitess as well? Or was there a double standard even back then? Of course, Moses took his wife before getting the law so I guess that made it ok.
I wonder what the real motive of Phinehas was. Was he really that offended by Zimri marrying a Midianitess or was he jealous that he wasn't getting any?
I always thought he was out of line and thus guilty of murder.

would you talk about shunning, the blood issue, explain how its a cult, or what?
unfortunately this would only be for an 8 minute segment on a current affairs programme so i need something that'll get peoples attention and make them think without having to go too deep into the subject.. what would you choose to talk about?.

That would make you irregular. Six months of no reporting would give you an inactive status.

its a losing battle.
there are fewer people today in the us that know witness doctrine or what witnesses would call "the good news of the kingdom".
Many people refer to us as the Watchtowers.
When I was a JW I heard many refer to us as "those Awake people". I also had many ask me, "Are you Jehovah?" One day I felt like being a smartass and answered, "No, he's in Brooklyn."
