  I remember it well. I was at work. I travel a lot to Norman OK for work. Norman is 20 miles from OKC, so it hit home. In fact I went to see the site a few months later. It was still devastated.

  back in the 70's wt had this thingy going on where they thought the figurative heart may indeed be the literal heart....like it had cells in it that affected your thinking....esp on things of emotion...(i swear i am not makin this sheeite up)...i went to a district convention back then that had two six foot, thin paper boxes on stage, with lights inside.....on the outside of each box was a painting of a brain and a heart.......and when the person offstage was talking.....one of the boxes would light up.......like sometimes it was the brain talking.......sometimes it was the heart talking............but most of the time since i was a teen and the chicks were hot......my dick did all the talkin.............oompa.

  sorry got off topic at the end....but anyone remember that dc or material?.

  I remember that convention so clearly. It was back when conventions ran into the evening hours. We were at Yankee Stadium and that drama was at night so the lighted heart and brain were clearly visible. As mentioned already dramas pierced the boredom and I always remembered them.

  Funny how one of those WT Pubs quotes mentions an elder must provide for his wife in all ways. Even when they try to sound like they are on the woman's side they are condescending. Why does a woman need providing for? How about just being partners, friends, equals even? This is one of the main reasons I give my daughter as to why I never want her to become a dub. This religion has little respect for what women are and can be. They insist that they be subservient to any male that happens to be passing by. Remember even Jehovah is their heavenly "Father".

  Being born-in is certainly one way where most of those points actually can apply to a person. No one is more vulnerable, more dependent on learning from others than when they are children. As children we lack judgment, critical thinking skills. We are in a position where we are not free. We must listen to those older than us. Further children view their parents as infallible, making anything they teach "holy writ" so to speak. Then when we are grown we are in the groove set by the cult. We might see inconsistencies but it takes many years to take them on and question them.

  Crazyblondedeb speaks of seeing it as a kid and the elders' influence. Funny I had a similar experience. I knew something was wrong. I would not get baptized. But we had an elder who was nice to me and who would regularly come up to me at the Hall and ask me almost verbatim the question the Etiopian eunuch asked in Acts: "What prevents you from getting baptized"? Here is where the authority was too much for me. At fitrst I would politely avoid saying anything. Or I might say I was thinking about it. But as time went on his persistence got me and I got baptized. Thus began the devotion to the cult for me.

  Front page, Wow! Actually something similar has been in the news with the suicide of a 12 year old boy who was allegedly being taunted and ridiculed about being considered gay. Maybe someone saw the time as right to bring issues like this to the forefront.

  i was born in 1964, 50 years after 1914. even in my teens i was doing the sums.

  i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!

  i figured i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!

  Yes and No. I mean how could I not take what the "FDS" said seriously? On the other hand for me, like for many JW's Armageddon wasn't exactly real. I mean year after year nothing happens. It's hard to maintain the urgency.

  Kids with seriouys psychological problems. Well I'm glad somebody said it. I mean come on, how many people go through being the butt of unkind and cruel treatmant and DON'T hurt anyone. Heck, most of us went through things like that being dubs. And most if not all of us are kind and loving people.

  Borgia, flickering is a good way to describe their teachings. For as much as I thought I knew, this one totally got past me. I mean the other sheep MUST inherit the earth. "We" were going to live there after all. To think anything else seems ludicrous. Further as mentioned they DID use Matt 25:34 with regard to the other sheep. It almost seems like they are so interested in writing stuff and getting it out the door they don't check things for consistency. I mean at least get the story straight. Everything is so ad hoc with them. Then they're stuck having to make this stuff work. It also seems that lately they've been swinging toward the conservative side again and explicitly mentioning things that for a long time were assumed. Like the marriage vow being subordinate to the dedication vow Flipper posted recently.

  I also wonder what the "other sheep" NOT inheriting the earth has to do with "promoting happiness" as the title implies. Most of their audience are "other sheep".

  It took me a while to realize that people outside the dubs really do enjoy my company, but Yes. I think this is because I listen well and make people feel comfortable being themselves.
