Hey, there is a KM school? Wow that is the first in fifteen years that I will not be attending!
Isaac
i wish i had posted this earlier so you guys could have gone to school this week to check it out, but the km school was a long winded plea plea for cash donations, reminding us that "jehovah will be grateful".. how i wanted to raise my hand and ask if the great need was related to paying off the child molestors or ask what happened to the$100s of millions from the property sale, or ask why they needed money after kicking out all the bethelites (two booted bethel couples in the congo).
anyway you guys missed a good laugh.
if anyone wants i'll post the km magazine.

now that the time has past i can give up the surprise that i sprung on the elders before my da'ing announcement.
i emailed the entire congregation!
or at least as many addresses that i had which was most of those who use email.
Rebel8, there isn't much there really. But I have to the astonishment of one JW, drawn attention to the short paragraph on JW origins. It actually refers to William Miller there. A small bit perhaps, but as we know JWs get defensive the instant any critical thinking or non-GB information is presented.

yesterday i promised i would tell another ugly but true story about sexual abuse within the org,so here we go:.
my ex comes from a catholic family.his youngest sister and he became a jw at the same time ( like me they had an elder brother in the org.but not much contact with the jw) my sister in law had a large family -7 children.6 of them very pretty but also rather stupid but then came young p, a very gentle, handsome and intelligent boy.he really stood out.
he was brilliant at school and they wanted him to study- but his parents said no.somebody from school came over to talk with the parents-this man said it would be a terrible waste not to let such an intelligent young man study, but they were unshakable-it was almost paradise time and this boy would never use that education for anything- so why bother?
We learned something from that case and promised each other that we would never do this to one of our boys-no matter what the boys might do and what the org. might say or do against us.We also promised each other we would always say hello to those who were DFd,no org.would dictate us who to say hello to and who not.
Amen Mathilde. Even when I was a JW I found that I would feel compelled to say Hello to DF people. I used being an elder as an excuse but even elders unless they served on the person's committee are to ignore df'd and da'd individuals. And on the kid issue, that is so so sad. My daughter was my main reason for making a quick exit. This religion will NOT EVER hurt my daughter. My divorce may very well stipulate that under no condition is my daughter to be made a JW. At the very least my ex knows that I will not tolerate my daughter being taken as well. If my ex wants to go back that is her business and her's alone.

Thanks for all the sympathy. I believe that any attempt at helping these people that is as easy as sending an email is worth it. On Cyber's question on the Knocking video and my reference to it: Actually I was directing them to the study guide. It covers a little more than the video and in a more balanced way. I can't stop the JWs from watching the video. But they won't look any farther. I am trying to stimulate their research interests without directing them to "apostate" material which would be an immediate turnoff for them.
Jeff-Now I have a name to tie to the handle. Thanks.

ok, here's the link to the second "fun with covers" video i've posted.
i took the covers from the various cover redo threads and made slideshows.
people seem to like them.
Hey that was great. I love the one about children and needing to boost attendance figures.

FYI, I got this one response from someone who earlier in that week had reached out to me as a friend. I had put him on a circuit assembly part and been supportive in other ways. He was exchanging emails inquiring about health and family. Once I wrote the congo here is what he sent me:
Do not try to contact me again, those are not productive thoughts and I want nothing to do with them. Do not try to contact my wife either.

Now that the time has past I can give up the surprise that I sprung on the elders before my da'ing announcement. I emailed the entire congregation! Or at least as many addresses that I had which was most of those who use email. As the keeper of the congregation database I had just about everyone's address. I did a Bcc so that the email would seem to go only go to the person reading it. And I didn't DA myself publicly but left things up to everyone's imagination. Hopefully when some people heard my announcement this past Tuesday they thought: "Wow they got rid of a good elder because he asked a few questions?!" Anyway below is the text of my email in case anyone wants to do something similar.
For the elders I did something different. I emailed all of them my letter, expressed my concern for them all and wished them the best. Further I left it up to them to keep in touch, my door is open. Then finally I personally I emailed three close friends on the body with a personal message. One was in my wedding, funny he is the only one that hasn't responded!
And finally, my name is posted here because guess what Watchtower, I am no longer in your clutches and I don't need to hide anymore!
Greetings everyone. I wanted to take a moment to say a couple of things. It was a pleasure working with and serving all of you. I can truthfully say that I love all of you. We had many good times, and I thoroughly enjoyed doing the School for the ten years that I conducted it.
My reason for sending this email is to explain why I have been absent for nearly a year.
Let me ask all of you something: How much independent research have you done into the Bible? How much independent checking into what we believe have you really done? I know as an elder I took this very seriously. It was my duty to be certain that what I was teaching was accurate and truthful. As I dug deeper it became clear that a lot of it was truth. And almost as much is just human speculation and to be honest arbitrary. And following the shifting teachings of men was not was I was into.
Friends, it is extremely important that you check and not simply take things for granted. Look into this religion's history. Answer questions such as why would it have just paid over 10 million dollars to settle 14 child abuse lawsuits throughout the United States while at the same time condemning other religions for having the same problem and saying that Jehovah will punish only those religions? Why would it work you to no end, demand more and more of your energy and time while promising a tribulation and Paradise that never seems to come? And why has it been doing this since 1879? Why would it insist that suspected child molesters go from door to door and risk endangering the lives of the public? And finally why can't the Society properly address Jesus' words at Luke 21:8? " 8 He said: "Look out that YOU are not misled; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, 'I am he,' and, 'The due time has approached.' Do not go after them. "
These issues I am raising because I spent years teaching this congregation. And I believe that if I saw these things and never attempted to tell you I would be blood guilty and my conscience would never be at ease. The burden now rests with you to check. Remember this: Truth can hold up to scrutiny. Truth has nothing to fear. And no one has the right to tell you not to do research. That is your personal choice. Remember what Paul said: "Where the spirit of Jehovah is, there is freedom." A good place that is not hostile to us is PBS's site: www.knocking.org/dvd_orders.lasso Go read the brochure that comes with the DVD.
[email protected] is my new email address. Any of you who wish to talk more or keep contact with me can do so there. I will keep your correspondence completely confidential as I did for the eleven years that I served you as an elder.
Warm Christian love,
Isaac Carmignani

Something else that the Governing Body ignores is their own doctrine of obeying Caesar unless there is a clear Scriptual reason not to. Can they call a ban on certain blood fractions that cannot be found in the Bible clear and rational justification for disobeying the clear direction to obey the government? I don't think so. They admitted not long ago to elders in the US via letter that governments don't grant exemptions in the case of minors. So they know the law, why not follow it?

a friend of mine who is planing his fade, has just been made talk coordinator.
so he calls me and ask 'do i want to give a talk at his hall?
' he knows my situation and lurks on this board himself.
Is there a talk that you could give that you could (1) play up the Christianity = love factor, and loyalty to Christ's example and (2) play down the loyalty to the WTS factor?
I'm trying to remember talks that my dad used to give.... Conduct Yourselves Honestly in All Things... was one of the ones he gave quite frequently. You could put a spin on it so that you incorporate the idea of "testing these things to make sure they are true" when it comes to ALL sources of information, and the expectation of honesty from those whom you have entrusted with your lives.
I have done this many times. Might still do it since I still get requests! Oh wait a minute I'm DA'd. Then again, so what! tsof
in view of the breathtaking mistakes made by the governing body in the last 10 years, the time has come for all with influence in or out of the organization of jehovah's witnesses to ask for the resignation of the entire governing body.
in the past 5 years alone, we have seen the defacto president of the watchtower society, theodore jarascz, dismiss reporters from the bbc without addressing their questions about sex abuse; they have denied repeatedly that there is a problem in the 2 witness to sex abuse policy; they have arranged the excommunication of whistleblowers in the organization, implying that they are spiritually deficient or worse.
thousands of members of this fellowship have been sexually abused by family or friends in the group, only to be told that it didn't happen, that they misunderstood it, and if they could not produce a second witness or the accused confessed, they were told that they must be silent or face shunning.
PUBLICITY for the settlement will help, no matter what the outcome.
Agreed. But the problem here is that there is ten times more publicity over the sale of their buildings than on the child abuse in the press. And in order for WT publication reading dubs to see anything it must be a headliner or a breaking story. They really don't have the time to read newspapers and watch the news in depth.
