Bluegrass, just remember that there are many religious groups that can satisfy a need to be around moral, Bible oriented people without being as controlling as WT is.

Relapse: I'm considering returning to the Kingdom Hall.
by Blue Grass ini'm a long time lurking of this site(2 years) and a first time poster.
to provide a little background of myself i was not raised as a witness but started studying when i was 19 and got baptized at age 21. a few months after i was baptized i left due to the constant worship of the faithful and discreet slave and the lack of emphasis on christ.
for reasons i'm not sure about yet i decided to attend the district convention last week.

I think that this is a concept made up by people who lived in simple times. It's true that we can over complicate things in our lives through poor planning, or dysfunctional behaviors. But it's also true that our lives are complex because we have grown as a species. We know more about science, health, human psychology. We need to remember that the Bible was written two to four thousand years ago! They just had less to think about back then. So I know give a lot of credence to this simple life stuff. I'd rarther have all the things that we have today and screw the simplicity.

If you have bad credit and you want to finance a new car, you may be required to have a cosigner. Someone who agrees to make your payments if you fail to. The courts should require people to be cosigners when they support the release of criminals. Meaning they agree to go to jail if the criminal reoffends.
Interesting concept. While impractical I wish there were a better way of screening jurists at times. Sometimes people who have poor judgment and little idea of cause and effect make major decisions that subsequently hurt others. It's infuriating.

Without pain could any God exist?
by The Berean inif our world was a paradise with no sickness, pain, or death, would anyone have ever considered the concept of a supreme being?
who would care how we got here?
would not eternity be taken for granted?.

2009 Drama - Kudos to Bethel. Sorry.
by Open mind inmy overall impression of this year's modern-day prodigal son drama was that it was one of the best i've ever seen.
"best" if the goal is to try to convince young jws to stay in the org.. the amount of cheesiness was at an all-time low, imo.
there were a few exceptions, but i got the impression that bethel is getting pretty good intel from the field and incorporating it into the program.

Intel from the field. Heck, they read some of the best of it right here!

Be realistic in 2009! Why Politics will NEVER turn on Religion in our society!
by Witness 007 incommunism is dead and the usa is a strongly christian, tolarant, democratic nation, it just won't happen here.
muslim nations are fanatical about their dedication....no chance.
it's silly to think of religions as a whole being banned....this is just a witness bad dream, never happen in a million years..

Separation of church and state....no matter what measure are taken to sanction the business practices of religion to stay in compliance with the law, religion will NOT disappear by political action.

how did you feel when you shunned disfellowshipped ones?
by looloo ini am trying to get in the mindset of my jw inlaws and trying to understand how they can shun my hub (their bro and son ) and not come to visit my 5 year old child (grandchild and neice) i dont think i blame them as individuals but i feel real mad with the ones who must make them feel guilty for bothering with us in the past but can longer do so in good conscience .
i never was a jw but how did some of you cope with the shunning thing and did you feel bad ?.

Horrible, embarrassed, uncomfortable, which is why I didn't do it much. rules be damned. When I became an elder I used the rules to say at least a Hello or flash a smile their direction.
