Seriously, who's going to bow down to any huge gold stick-man like that without laughing his ass off the whole time?

I'm thinking (aside from being doubled over shielding themselves from the wretched music while laughing their asses off) they could've been frozen scared in that position afraid suddenly realizing, the wind could blow this hideous, anorexic looking statue of gold right over onto them from 90 feet in the air. Just my .02 cents.

Seen this movie?

i was just wondering if anyone here has ever seen the movie "the invention of lying".

if you haven't seen it it is basically about a guy who lives in a world where no one knows what a lie is.

when this mans mom is on her deathbed he tries to comfort her and makes up a story ( something no one else has the ability to do ) about a place like heaven where everyone will get to live in a mansion of their choosing.

Did you ever try any of the awkward, and somewhat creepy suggestions in the KM for Informal Witnessing?

the august km, has an article entitled, "you can witness informally!

" this week's service meeting will cover half of the 13 questions.

next week, congregations will finish the article along with a box full of several experiences with successful results from informal witnessing.

"Articles like this give me some idea as to why nonJWs find JWs to be weird or nuts. I could never see myself doing any of this crazy stuff. Have any of you ever tried these suggestions or similar? Did you have any success? Now that you're not a JW or fading, do you see how crazy these suggestions are?"
It is pretty creepy- I remember doing the bus stop witnessing and talking to a college student about the end being near and about how there has never been a time when it's been so bad all over the world...lol boy was I ever shut down. She was nice enough but I remember her seeming to feel bad for me, I was a dumb teenage kid with no clue.

removed now from theocratic pursuits and 'pouring yourself out like a drink offering' at all costs, are you tending to your mental and physical health realistically and without feeling guilt?.

Only as far as meetings and service. Like Chickpea mentioned, I also take care of myself so I can have a good life span. I enjoy things now that as a witness weren't allowed, like yoga- which for those of you who mentioned stress is a great stress reliever. I used to have panic attacks all the time. Now I put the energy I used to spend on meetings and service into yoga, hiking, taking supplements and eating healthy. I exert myself mentally now probably more as far as learning because now I'm not held back on what I'm allowed to study or read. So I've had a lot of catching up to do and don't plan on slowing down anytime soon. The thing is Physically and mentally the energy I spend now is on what I'm enjoying and it makes my life better and doesn't make me feel spent like when I was a witness

As a Witness - What did you Notice in How Elders Got Appointed ?

i found it amazing being raised in the witnesses to see exactly who got appointed sometimes as an elder.

it seemed that the criteria in my opinion had more to do with getting 10 hours a month in field service, answering at meetings, carrying microphones as a ministerial servant, or handling the magazine or literature counter !

in doing these " functions " and attending meetings on a regular basis - a man was thought to be considered " spiritually strong " and qualify to be an elder and serve on judicial committees judging people's personal problems.

I think some of it anymore may be out of desperation. I say this only because 2 people I know of who are elders now are not what I would ever think they'd consider real elder material. One is my ex and he drinks excessively on a daily basis, the other I know of did some terrible things to my little brother when he was small and never really had to answer for it. The both them being appointed elders was what really made me question the supposed appointing through the holy spirit.
