When I telephoned London Bethel re Michael Porter, convicted JW child abusing elder, now ex elder, I was told by a gentleman in the Media dept that
''we [Jehovah's Witnesses] do not believe any divine inspiration is involved in the appointment of elders''
How on earth Holy Spit is involved is anyone's guess.

a brother asked me last week about the un situation.
he said he had seen an email and he asked if the society had been a member of the u.n. before i used to hint that it was wrong, but it never got me anywhere, whoever i said that to would clam up or get angry with me.. so now i pretend to support the society.
when that brother asked me i replied, "well, it doesnt matter though.

am i correct in saying that in countries with conscription, jw's used to have to refuse alternative service provided by the state for conscientious objectors?
thus usually resulting in imprisonment.. has this policy of not accepting alternative service changed?.

i wonder what older mexican jw's thought about the situation they were in and whether they could see through the farce.. if any group of witnesses could have cause to doubt, it would be them but they seem to be increasing.. .

What first or secondhand evidence has anyone seen or heard apart from Crisis of Conscience about the Mexican bribery affair?

Now I'm not the brightest of people around ( and I suppose this must explain it) but I wouldn't have thought the judge would need any background reports before passing sentence of life imprisonment with no possibility whatsoever of ever being released but with the option of suicide if you so desire.
