yes, cream or 'ivory' (whatever the hell that is) for the 'experienced'. woe betide the bride if the cream or ivory was a little too gleaming. strangely, the groom wasn't obliged to advertise his 'status' through the medium of colour...

witnoid weddings
by katiekitten inwhen i was a kid weddings in the troof were a big deal.
probably because they were the main if not only excuse for a knees up.
if someone was getting married they were not in control of the decisions about the reception.

Can inactives be D/F'd?
by tabbycat incan inactive ex-jw's be disfellowshipped?
i've always been interested but can't ask my mother (still a jw) for fear of upsetting her.
if i was d/f'd, would it really mean that even my immediate family would 'shun' me?

I suppose posting on this is reason enough. Oh the joys of living in a totalitarian state. Fortunately, I am far from my orginal 'stomping ground' and my family are too (though nowhere near me sadly). Thanks for the advice. It's hard to keep up with all of this 'new light' (the future's so bright, I gotta wear shades).

Oh yes. There was usually one worldly babe who would turn up in 'normal' clothes and the menfolk would be walking strangely and drooling, and all with a disapproving expression on their faces...urgh! how unsavoury!
And was it a rule that every bridesmaid had a choice of two colours, and two colours only? What were those colours? Peach or pink, of course! There was a fair bit of one-upmanship in our hall, much like yours KatieK! When one 'bitch' had 'deliberately (according to the sis who was about to have her thunder stolen) chosen peach when she knew another sister wanted to have peach it had to be organised on a rota basis, so weddings would be like the 'buffet' line - peach - pink - peach - pink etc...

Oh yes, it was the living in the same house thing that was the rule-bender re. D/F relatives. Oh well. I'm not planning on getting D/F deliberately, and hate the thought of it being announced to all the old judgemental busy-bodies in my old cong. It would just confirm their (wrong) assumptions. When someone is DF's it seems like a large proportion of JW's thrive on the drama and guess the worst case scenario when someone is DF'd. Despite having known the person for years, suddenly they are deemed capable of engaging in all manner of deacadent activities. Sadly, I was never really that exciting...

Can inactive ex-JW's be disfellowshipped? If so, how and for what? I've always been interested but can't ask my mother (still a JW) for fear of upsetting her. If I was D/F'd, would it really mean that even my immediate family would 'shun' me? I always thought that your immediate, nuclear family could still keep in contact...

CAN MEN AND WOMEN JUST BE "FRIENDS"?
by Mary inor will one of them invaribly end up being attracted to the other?
-

In my experience, men and women can absolutely be 'just friends'. I have several friends who I regard as a brother and I know they think of me as a sister (in fact, it's almost insulting that, to them, the thought of knowing me 'in the biblical sense' would be disgusting!!).

Movies to make a JW THINK
by M.J. ini've heard various suggestions of movies to show a dub.. those of us with a spouse / family in the borg might find it pretty useful to rent such movies as just another way of chipping away at the indoctrination, or drawing attention to the wts control tactics.. one movie i saw which was somewhat helpful was one called "equilibrium", which was suggested on this board a while back.
its about a society that has acheived peace and order by requiring everyone to repress their emotions through sedatory drugs.
the good thing about this one was when it showed how everyone was so indoctrinated to follow the directives of the organization in charge, with every person keeping an eye on everyone else.

KatieK's message is a complete carbon copy of my childhood! Reading it was shockingly funny - I had forgotten all the nuances!!
Do any of you remember the shiver of unease that ran through the assembled guests as the 'worldly relatives' came in? (I always found them really glamorous and exciting, I liked the frisson of danger that a bearded man or ponytailed male youth would evoke)). And if (risque!) there was a bar, there was the human equivalent of CCTV (elder) counting every bloody beverage. The other ripple that went through the crowd was when the speaker would announce that the next dance was the 'Gay Gordons' - oh how us kids sniggered and looked on in amazement that the dance hadn't been outlawed.
I, however, was called to task after one wedding. Apparently I had set a 'bad example' to the worldlies by wearing black. It was, the elders said, satanic...(even though one of the elder's wives had given me the skirt). After this faux pas, I used to dream about wearing (gulp!) trousers to the KH, but I never had the balls...

Thanks. I'll give it some thought. I'm a bit scared!!! Did your brother get a reply?
