Thanks for that. I'd love to disassociate for moral reasons and the same principles for which I left in the first place (one of which was the treatment of D/f's JWs) but it's a helluva risk to take family-wise. I instinctively feel my mother and sister would not shun me at all, despite being staunch JW's but you just never know. The real fly in the ointment would be my mothers sanctimonius husband, who is an elder. I also live far away from them, so the fact I don't live with any of my JW relatives would be another reason for having no loop-holes.

Can inactives be D/F'd?
by tabbycat incan inactive ex-jw's be disfellowshipped?
i've always been interested but can't ask my mother (still a jw) for fear of upsetting her.
if i was d/f'd, would it really mean that even my immediate family would 'shun' me?

Did you do crazy things post DF?
by anewme ini was just wondering if anyone out there had similar struggles after being disfellowshipped?
.
all my life i was a good christian person, then after getting df'd i entertained the idea to do all manner of formerly forbidden activities, since everyone thought i was going to the devil anyway.

I'm not D/F'd, but when I left I wore the worst clothes you can possibly imagine. It was poss the most obvious case of lame teenage rebellion you've could see. I feel ashamed! It wasn't even slutty, just embarrassing 'sub-culture' wear!
My post-JW clothes were sheer bad taste which were just the dark underbelly of the cheapo Laura Ashley rip-offs I wore when I was 'in' (though that style was seriously floundering for me by the time I left...). There were a lot of raised eyebrows in the town I was in, and numerous reports back to my poor mother, who is still the world's best JW.

I bet you won't see a report on the latest book which identifies proof that homosexuality can be proven to be genetic in lots of cases...

remember those stories about demonic possession?
by LuckyNun inand how people would swear that things moved by themselves and hovered around?
well, i wish my stuff was possessed so it would move itself to my new apartment for me.

Oh, believe me, I didn't want to watch the Blair Witch Project. I thought it might be a case of self-administered aversion therapy (throwing myself in at the deep end, so to speak). The only really terrifying thing that happened is that lights started flickering and darting around the room I was in (with the curtains closed). Imagine my relief when I realised they were reflected car lights coming in through a gap in the curtains. Phew!

I'm pleased to hear that some of you can laugh about it (genuinely) as I until I found this board I really hated myself for having been 'out' for years and still being irrationally scared of things like that (on bad days). I was so relieved to read KatieK's posts! I have tried to get myself out of that way of thinking, and know fine well that it's 'programming' but it's bloody hard to shake when you developed all these fears as a kid...I still can't watch some supernatural films in case it 'triggers' a whole host of stupid panic! How sad am I!!? It was a major breakthrough for me to watch the Blair Witch Project!!

Depression and JW's
by damselfly ini don't wish to hijack the chronic fatigue thread so i started this one.
when i was a teen i suffered from severe depression brought on by emotional abuse, sexual abuse and the jw way of handling it.
i couldn't physically get out of bed, didn't know what day it was, had no desire to eat and dropped below 100 lbs.

In my cong it was def the case that if you were depressed then you were doing something wrong/were weak etc. Even though some JWs would be kind and supportive, the consensus was that it was somehow the individual's 'fault' or that they weren't trying hard enough. I don't think I really realised I was depressed, but I def developed a bit of an OCD, which remains to this day when I'm anxious or stressed and is clearly linked to 'ideas' I was exposed to in my JW youth...
