who out of all you nasty old apostates (tm) will agree with me, that if you take the gb that you dislike so much, and the watchtower that you hate out of the picture, will agree with me that at the end of the day, and on the whole, jw's really are a good bunch of people.
i did my same old rekky last sunday at the gillingham convention, and will have a good look around next sunday at twickenham convention.
i've been in lots of crowds, at stadiums and arenas, but an assembly is something else, it is somehow unique, its somehow different from any other crowds, there is a deep sense of "togetherness" i've not see any where else.
I agree that many jws i've known are nice people, but the leadership is a lying, thieving bunch of hypocrites who rule those they ensnare by fear and intimidation. They wouldn't know an act of love if it hit them in the face, so how anyone can enjoy being around people like that is beyond me.

i travelled alot recently and i passed through many major cities, and i saw the contrast between nice small quiet towns and huge cities with so much traffic.. so, where would you rather live, in a quiet small town where there isn't much to do,but where it's quiet and there is not much stress, or in a big city with lots of traffic jams, where life is more expensive, but where there is more to see?.
i like the smaller town life.
I live in a city now, and work in an even bigger city a few miles away, but i was born and bred in a small village, and some of my family still live there. I love to visit them, and I hope to return there once I retire, village life is so much less streeful
i have never posted my story on jwd and it was only recently that it occured to me that i should really make more of an effort to; here is the first part....sorry if its longwinded.... .
i was brought up in the borg from the age of 18 months old and as you can understand i have known little else.
previous to being in the truth my mother was an unwanted child and beaten by her mother, sure enough she fell into an abusive relationship with my father which left her with minus zero confidence and on the verge of a nervous breakdown; apparently my mum was considering throwing us both off a railway bridge she was that depressed and to her there was no point in living.
that's some story db, i really feel for you. it reminds me of the way some of the kids were treated at the kh i attended, a lot of whom are no longer in the borg. i am so happy for you re your forthcoming wedding, all the best

my 79 year old mom that has every ailment known to man was going to the bookstudy this afternoon because she felt "guilty" for not going the last couple of meetings due to illness.
i told her it was 95 degrees outside and asked her not to go since she has difficulty breathing.
she decided to do it anyway.
I only felt guilty when I had doubts about what I was doing, I felt more guilt in the first year or so after leaving, but that's faded now
i was and i am ever thankful to this board and all the wonderful members on it that have contributed to my freedom.

anyways to recap the good parts, first off obedience.
Thanks for the report on the convention, it reminds me of my last one about 7 years ago, all the usual recycled bs. i was on the verge of leaving then but hadn't quite plucked up the courage to go. after the first day i got myself assigned to car park duty, just like the old guy. unlike him, i couldn't wait to do it. i missed out on all the spiritual food of course, but by then i wasn't that hungry anymore anyway. i stood in a field all day directing people to their spots, and no-one crashed! i love the bit about shouting obey as well, had me rolling.
i am ex pioneer, ex ministerial serpent not been near a kh in 6 years, smoke, drink had a live in gf until recently, but not dfd, so much for keeping the cong clean!
still, none of my "brothers" with a couple of exceptions, speaks to me now, their way of trying to win me back perhaps?
not that it'd work - i am happy now after 10 years of bs from people who ought to know better but don't

not complaining, i knew what to expect anyway, i am ashamed to say that i did the same to others when they fell away, i was told it was what was expected of me. i found that very difficult, but complied with the borg's instructions anyway. i see my former friends quite often, and when i first left used to go out of my way to engage them in conversation, but the amusement of that soon wore off and i mostly ignore them now. they did try to "heal me" spiritually at first, but now seem to regard me as terminally sick, having seen me smoking and on occasion worse for drink in public, and they haven't bothered me for a few years now, thankfully.
i have been writing 'my story' in bits and pieces here.
it was pouring out, one of the kids sick, jw husband wasn't going.
i got in the car (this little hatch-back car was a loaner from the garage because our larger car was being repaired) i was stopped at a stop sign and i was on time for the meeting.. i heard something and turned in time to see something coming at me fast.

it was a similar experience to yours that finally did it for me with the jws. i broke my leg at work and couldn't get around for a while, but did the elders care? not really - the po phoned to ask why i hadn't been to the meeting on the day it happened as i had a talk, and at the end of the month i was counselled for not making my hours as a pioneer! not one of them visited, it was my next door neighbours, a muslim family, who helped with shopping etc, and when i finally recovered and attended the kh again it was the circuit overseers visit. he was more bothered about my recent lack of time in the ministry than if i had recovered or not, so much for brotherly love! i am so happy for you that you, like me, have discovered how much sweeter life can be away from "the truth". all the best
