Welcome James!
This is, as Ip_sec said, a place where freedom of speech is allowed, and treasured
Many of us here are former jehovah's witnesses.
is this a refuge for jehovahs witnesses or not?.
given time i will know.

increase in jws evidence of divine blessing when people are joining the jws in large numbers, they say it is "evidence of jehovah's blessing".
(watchtower july 1, 2002, p.13, paragraph 17-19).
but ... when the numbers are down they claim it's because "the greater number has cooled off".
JWs condemn all other religions for being in league with the UN as NGO's, but were an NGO themselves at the UN for 10 years, only terminating their status when they were exposed.
take a look at this from the wt's own site:.
such an examination will show that instead of bringing a cataclysmic end, armageddon will introduce a happy beginning for people who desire to live and thrive in a righteous new world.
you will be rewarded with a clear understanding of this vital scriptural truth as you consider the discussion of armageddons real meaning in the next article.. what do you think armageddon is?a nuclear holocaust an environmental disaster a collision of a celestial body with the earth divine destruction of the wicked .
As you look into the eyes of a new-born baby tell the child that it is wicked, at least compared to God
Good point Hilary. Maybe sinful would be a better word than wicked, considering the definition of the word
1. evil or morally bad in principle or practice; sinful; iniquitous: wicked people; wicked habits.
2. mischievous or playfully malicious: These wicked kittens upset everything.
3. distressingly severe, as a storm, wound, or cold: a wicked winter.
4. unjustifiable; dreadful; beastly: wicked prices; a wicked exam.
5. having a bad disposition; ill-natured; mean: a wicked horse.
6. spiteful; malevolent; vicious: a wicked tongue.
A new-born baby could not possibly display any of those traits.
We are all born in sin, or so the bible says, not that I particularly believe the bible. A penchant for wickedness may or may not develop as we grow up.

the elders cames to my home on saturday and i didn't answer the door, so they told my sister to relay the message.
the message was "you know what it's about, we're going to make the announcement next meeting".
i knew it was coming...but it feels so weird.
Welcome to freedom!
No more need to avoid the elders. This is a cause for rejoicing, not regret

i have been speaking to a jw who denies that the wt ever condemned the catholic church.. anyone know of any wt quotes that do so.. have come across a few that just say that the catholic chutch did this ot that.
but nothing that openly condemns them..
There are quite a few quotes here
http://www.quotes-watchtower.co.uk/religion_-_money.html
That are somewhat unclompimentary towards the Catholic Church, including this one:
The vast business holdings of the Vatican and of other religious organizations bind them inseparably with the business world. How unlike the true Christians concerning whom Jesus Christ said: "They are no part of the world"!—John 17:16.
The religious organization that truly is serving God, in harmony with the example set by Jesus Christ, concentrates on preaching and teaching the liberating truths of his Word and does not become involved in commercial businesses. Following the Bible's instructions, it does not involve itself in "the commercial businesses of life."—2 Tim. 2:4.
siamese twins became jehovah's witnesses and one became apostate???
?....what problems would be caused?
?...or what would happen if one was anointed?...
The duped faithful one would find this scripture kind of difficult to follow
Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers.
revelation -- it's grand climax at hand chap.

142-148 the first woe--locuststhe first woe--locuststhe fifth angel prepares to blow his trumpet.
the most recent facts show that the religionists of this doomed world are gnashing their teeth because of the testimony which the 'House of the Princes' bears to the new world"
I know that this is probably a silly question, but did Rutherford actually produce
any evidence to show that religionists were really angry about him building
Beth Sarim as hisholiday home a home for Abraham, Isaac, David and all
the other faithful men of old? I rather suspect that, rather than the sound of
anger, the churches were echoing with the sound of laughter when they heard
why JFR had had it built.
As for the witness it bore to the rest of the religious world, that seems to me to
be more of a testimony to the cash value of false prophecy than anything else.

my sister had a baby recently and on the day she was born they whole jw community come to the hospital gave presents cards balloons flowers all on her real birthday i pointed this out to them they were celebrating the childs birthday and as usual they pointed the finger at me and my warped thinking my mother went so far as to say that i needed professional help.
so is the day a child is born a birthday and as such should jws celebrate it.
Well done winnie, though I think they'd probably be able to squeeze out of
that one by pointing out that card manufacturers birthday cards start at one
years old, not nought, so no one really has a 0 years of age birthday.
Perhaps for future birthday celebrations, you could point out you're not
celebrating a birthday, but the anniversary of the birth, and jws are fine with
anniversaries. I've used that one on jws before, and it's quite funny seeing
them try to prove what's wrong with the theory.

its been suggested to me by someone who clearly is not aware of my atheism that adopting an imaginary friend could help me find my purpose in life after a relationship breakup.
it annoys and perplexes me although i realise everyone has a right to their own opinion.. however my opinion is this:.
my husband hasnt left me - i've never had a husband and i certainly hope i never have that misfortune or get ill enough to suffer such poor judgement as restricting myself to the bed of one person for the rest of my life when i personally am certainly not willing to keep such a promise.
I wonder if there is a word for people like me - you know like homophobic people dont agree with homosexuality, well what do you call people who don't agree with religion but dont have a problem with the people who choose it as a life style?
I think the word(s) are open-minded Crumpet. Also tolerant of what other people
choose for themselves, even if their choice is completely at odds with your own,
and respectful of other peoples views is another way to describe it, in my opinion.
I'm an atheist as well, but have several friends who choose to follow a religion. I
have no problem with their choice, they have none with mine, and we don't try
to persuade each other to adopt our beliefs, or lack of them in my case.
