some unimportant random thoughts & reflections
by DanTheMan into be honest, i feel like i barely qualify as an ex-dub.
wasn't raised in it, no relatives in it, and aside from my first one or two years of being involved with it, i didn't believe much of it.
but at the point where i first started having doubts creep in, instead of investigating those doubts, i turned off my brain.

Has The Internet REALLY Hurt Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus inthe watchtower society tries to "demonize" the internet.
what damage do you think the internet has caused on the jehovah's witness religion??
?
-
chester
It was something that was said from the platform at a District convention that caused me to want to look on the internet to see what was being said about the witnesses.
"If you are happy with your life the way it is, stay off the internet". " Curiosity killed the cat."
I have to say that if it were not for the information that I have found on the internet I would still be a Watchtower slave.
Thank God for the internet.
Watchtower should be afraid of the internet. -

Why did it take so long to work it out?
by sleepy in.
assuming you were brought up as a witness or converted for at least a few years , why do you think it takes so long to work out its not true?.

Sleepy,
That is a good question. One I have asked myself many times.
I think that the lack of access to information is the reason it takes so long to realize that this religion is not "the truth". I mean, it never even crossed my mind that the Governing Body were these evil men that are trying to hide what they really are and that they were hiding pedophiles and all of that stuff.
Once I realized that they are actually trying to keep information from people and then to "see" what it is they don't want us to know it was easy to work it out.

what was the most influential saying/person that changed you ???
by run dont walk in.
if there was one thing that affected me most was, i would have to say the time i ran into a brother (while i was still in the borg) in the downtown area.. he said "just take one year off, no meetings, no service, no assemblies, no talks, nothing, just take a break, and you will see the wathctower differently, and your mind will clear.".
at the time i just shrugged it off as a bitter jw who left, now when i look back, it was probaly the biggest thing that someone ever said to me, and he was right, 100%.. was there a saying, an occurrence or a person that just got you thinking about how ridiculous the watchtower is ??

It was something a speaker said from the platform at the District convention at the Pontiac Silverdome in June of 2000.
"If you are happy with your life the way it is, stay off the internet".

TIME TO MAKE THE DONUTS!!!!
by LDH indoes anyone remember the ad campaign for dunkin donuts back in the 1980's?
it featured a guy named "fred" responding to his alarm clock as though he were a spokesman for the pavlov's dogs theory.. any time that damn bell rang (mostly in the middle of the night), fred would bolt out of bed and say, "time to make the donuts!
" he was a donut-making machine, i tell you!.

The Crucible is the critical culminating event occurring in the 11th week of Marine Corps boot camp. It's 54 hours of trial and triumph. Referred to as the defining moment, it's when the Marine Corps drives home the core values of honor, courage, and commitment. With little sleep, less food and over 40 miles of forced marches, recruits tackle what is surely the toughest part of becoming a Marine.
Getting through that was tough. Congratulations to your son. You have something to be proud of.
