  My Mom passed away today.

  after a lenthy illness, 10 years in total, my mother, margaret stecko, passed away peacefully today surrounded by family.

  she was 84, and leaves behind 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

  she was a jw but never shunned me.

  What is up with "YOU"?

  i've always been curious, why does the new world translation always render the word you in capital letters?

  is is a subliminal effort to make a strong connection with the reader as though the writer of the scripture meant "you, the individual reading this"?

  in other words, is it an effort to force the scriptures to make a stronger impact?

  English doesn't have a plural form of 'you', the one word covers both singular and plural forms. Again, I don't have a NWT handy but that's what the capitals are all about. I remember once at a meeting finding another word that was in all capitals.. I can't remember offhand what it was, but it was the same idea.. the capitals were to clarify that the word was actually in plural form.

  Deliberate Revisions.

  when the watchtower society revises the text of articles that they wrote in the magazines and books and on the cd's, such as the new revelation book soon to be studied again in the bookstudy arrangement, does this alter their belief system that they had prior to the revisions?

  are the revisions inspired or deliberate?

  if they did not have it right the first and second time ,what makes them think that they have it right this time?.

  The "YOU" in all capitals means the plural form of 'you'.

  I think it is explained on one of the first pages of the NWT (before Genesis)... don't have a bible handy.

  I finally did it!!

  i volunteered and gave blood for the first time this past tuesday.

  my heart condition has improved to the point that my doctor okayed my donating blood.

  i am kind of a wuss when it comes to shots and needles; but being in a hospital in intensive care gets you over that.

  Why be obedient to god?

  if a creator god is real and he is the source of life well then i would certainly acknowledge that and give him thanks for my existence and for the universe i live in.

  but obedience?.

  my mum and dad gave me life, ensured my education, looked after my health and wellbeing, loved me, taught me the value of kindness and friendships and so much more.

  The God I believed in as a JW was kind, loving, and had created all things... the universe and the earth and everything in it.. and man. He knew what was best for us, he knew what we needed even before we knew ourselves. Obeying him was best because since he created us, then he knew the precise way for us to live to bring us the best life possible.

  That's why I wanted to be obedient to God before. I am just not sure anymore that that God truly exists.

  Should I start posting dating tips?

  many of us came out of the jws with very little dating experience under our belts (married or not), and a lot of us were very lost when it came to the opposite sex.

  the wts didn't help us learn how to pick a woman, how to court her, or even how to have sex with her.

  there's a lot of horror stories about first jw sexual encounters, and a lot of horror stories about dating after leaving the org.. i made it a goal to catch up on my dating experience after i deprogrammed myself, and i learned a lot about the competitive and tricky dating world.

  This makes me sick to my stomach.

  If he turns himself in and is convicted of murder, though, the WTS will wash their hands of him so fast it'll make his head spin. These people are not concerned with right or wrong... they are concerned with appearances.

  I know of a case where a man was mentally ill, and he and his wife asked the elders for help over and over again. He was on meds, he was a mess, and one day he called 911 and said he was going to kill someone and to send help fast. They were too late, he killed the first person who walked thru his door - his young daughter.

  For a while it was unclear whether or not he was fit to stand trial. He was declared fit, and then he was DF'd. His wife and remaining kids supported him through it all, the trial and everything. They knew how long he had been sick.... but so did the elders. He was sentanced to life in prision without parole. While he absolutely needs to be in prision or a mental institution, he wasn't DF'd for what he did, really. He was DF'd to distance him (during a very public trial) from the WTS..... as the letter AK-Jeff posted so clearly shows.

  just a little breaking news:.

  after several years of a great friendship with diane (previously posted as xena) things have started to really come together recently and i've succumbed to making an honest woman of her (or at least as honest as it's possible to make her.

  last night (xmas day) i popped the question and she agreed to marry me (i wonder if she knows what she's let herself in for!!!)..

  That's such a sweet story!! And quite honestly, I think that starting a relationship as good friends is one of the best foundations for a marriage.
