  Full Circle. . .

  its odd to me when and where things change for me.

  this last friday i went out with friends and a cousin i hadnt seen in over a year.

  i also went out in a part of town i hadnt spent time in for years.

  majesterium (sacred tradition) is a technical theological term used in some christian traditions, primarily in the roman catholic and eastern orthodox traditions, to refer to the fundamental basis of church dogma.

  the term refers to the "deposit of faith" that these churches hold was communicated by jesus christ to his first followers, and which they hold has been passed down (latin tradere, to hand over or hand down) through succeeding generations.

  the church as a community, therefore, was the initial receiver, and has remained the guardian and codifier, of sacred tradition.

  Inspiration of the Bible doesn't suggest that God himself wrote it and that somehow it fell down out of heaven and was found by someone.

  The bible didn't fall down out of heaven in book form with Jesus' words in red, I agree. But Catholics believe that all the bible's words are inspired of God. The NT canon was chosen from among hundreds (thousands?) of letters and other writings that had been circulating in the early congregations for years. The Catholic church decided which to call 'inspired' and include in the Holy Bible. Someone had to do it, right?

  However, that does not mean that the bible is inspired by the Catholic church. It wasn't written by the Catholic church. The Catholic church was (presumably) used by God to choose his inspired words and include them in the bible. The church goes one step further, though, in proclaiming itself the interpreter of those words. The JWs claim to be the interpreter, too.

  The Catholic Church predates the Bible which you hold in your hand and read.

  True - but that doesn't make them right.

  Catholicism sprang from Judiasm at the time of Christ. The Jews had a male-dominate culture, and the Catholic tradition reflects that. No female priests, for example.

  The following I have on pretty good authority, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong: Catholics cannot divorce for ANY reason, and remarriage is only approved with the death of one's mate. However, since the 'purpose' of sex and marriage, according to Catholic tradition, is to bring forth children, women past childbearing age and men no longer able to have sex (because of impotence, for example), cannot marry even then. (Healthy men can continue to have sex and produce children well into their 70s, while women cannot normally bear children past their mid-40s or so. So a 40-something year old woman who loses her husband is expected to remain unmarried for the rest of her life, because she is no longer a baby-maker.) The Catholic church also teaches that contreception in any form is wrong.

  Why is it necessary to have the Supreme Court have the final interpretation of the Constitution, whether we like their decisions or not, but unnecessary to have the Church have the final say on the Book, whose content it determined and whose monks copied and preserved before the printing press?

  This would be a good analogy if the Catholic church actually wrote the bible. However, the bible is supposedly inspired by God (or, written by God). Therefore, it was not truly the Catholic church who chose the NT content, but God. The Catholic church's claim of ownership of the bible, as well as sole interpreter of God's will, I find presumptuous. GGG

  hello brothers and sisters.

  i'm a 17-year-old kid in a methodist household, and i've recently began reading up on jw doctrine and the new world translation bible.

  i'd really be interested in learning more and more, possibly leading to an eventual conversion to the witnesses.

  I saw red

  this morning i went to the break room at work to get a cup of coffee.

  a jw lady from the cong that i da'd from 5 years ago was in there.

  normally she doesn't say anything to me, but today she smiles big at me and says in a sing-song voice, "he-ey, the memorial, april 7th!".

  Actually it's April 2nd. I think you should report her to Bethel for Memorial-invitation incompentancy. Or using false dates. Oh wait.... Bethel doesn't care about using false dates...!

  My Dad died on Friday

  i dont often post on here but lurk everday.

  i was an elder for 11 years, raised as a witness from birth and eventually left in 2002 aged 42.. my dad died on friday aged 87. he was a witness baptized in 1940. he was congregation servant and then elder in hull, england.. we were arranging his funeral tonight with my 2 brothers who are still witness elders.

  all they were interested in was what he had done in the "truth".

  I'm so sorry for your loss.

  I agree with those who say to wait, especially since your kids are against it. You can't take it back once it's sent.

  I don't know that you will get too many to read it, though, if they're 'faithful dubs'..... Even if they do, logic rarely works until people are ready for it. While they are still caught in the mind control, that's what will take over. They'll send themselves straight back to 'Mother'.

  Good luck whatever you decide to do.

  At the top of the screen, click on Member Directory, then on the letter of the member name you're looking for ("T" in this case), then scroll through the names until you get to the one you want. Click on the name, and it will show you the info on that member. Click on Post History, and it will show you all their posts.

  Whew! Hope I didn't make that too complicated!
