Can Witnesses Do That?

this week is spring break for school children and so my kids are home this week.

while i was at work yesterday some witnesses paid a visit to my home and tried to talk my 14 year old son into having a bible study.

when my son politely refused, saying that he could not commit to a study without first asking permission of his parents, they told him that they knew many children who had defied their parents to study with the witnesses and come to meetings.

I may be wrong but this sounds like a case where the JWs knew about your background in the organization and felt your child is fair game,instead of it being a random call.

They want to give your child who suposedly knowes the "truth" already the chance to stand up for themselves and have a chance at everlasting life even if it means defying you.

I've seen experiences just like this in the magazines where kids of ex JWs were praised for sneaking out of the house for their Bible study or meeting attentence.All the while demonizing the parent/parents for opposition and persecution of this effort.

They went way over the line here no matter what.
Do what you think is best.

Why are the witnesses suddenly smiling at me?

hi all..... i was starting to feel like i was walking around outside in me undies.... is there something new going on... people who normally always looked at me with disdain are suddenly smiling and making friendly.... is anything up????

just last week, i was sure i was still satan's spawn....???

Is The Governing Body EVIL?

i am going to stick my neck out and postulate that the gb is not evil .

nor is the watchtower society as a whole.

i'm sorry this got a little long but please accept the challenge and show me wrong.

They are beyond evil in my opinion.

Claiming to have God in their hip pocket doesn't excuse all the atrocities they have perpretrated on their own members and their families.
There is no excuse for what they have done.

Ray Franz doesn't condem them because he would still be one of them if things didn't happen as they did.I sensed a sadness and longing in his books over the loss of position and his buddies on the GB.

The Talaban claims to have the true religion and that the almighty backs them.
Does that excuse them? NO and neither is the GB excused.

guess i've been lurking long enough.

been about 2 yrs or longer.. take a lot of nerve for the first post.my husband and i both left.

together although he knew long before i did.

I've been around the board for about as long as you so I feel like I already know alot of these people.I 've been associated with the witnesses since around 1968.I was a baby then, indoctrinated from the start.

Defacing Watchtower materials

hey, folks.

just curious: did any of you ever deface your magazines?

i had a friend growing up in the congregation and, kids that we were, we'd snap up our new watchtowers and awakes and we'd draw our own captions for the pictures, usually with hilarious results.

I could never do something like this when I was a kid because of my strict parents but my husband and I have enjoyed many years together drawing cartoons and captions in the magazines.

This entertained us through many a meeting.

What did you do during the written review

by far the most boring part of all meetings is the written review.

what kind of stuff did you guys (male and female) do to pass the time.

i either to write computer programs, sleep talk to my wife or sleep in the car.

I loved written review night.
The 20-30 minutes of silence was wonderful.

Oh Horror of Horrors

They got Prince too?!!!!
How very sad.

The only good I could possibly see coming from this is if the Watchtower allows Prince to write and compose a new songbook for them.
It would a great improvement over the funeral dirges they have now.
