  Unfortunately Rodbar, we should have never gotten involved in the first place. Now that the US is in there, leaving will be next to impossible.

  I have to agree. You broke it, you bought it. If we were to pull out now, we would leave in our wake mass turmoil. Iraq would spiral into civil war, and we would be to blame for it. We'll be in Iraq for another decade at least. They need to start clearing a spot on the National Mall for the Iraq War Memorial.

  That's what happens when the country votes in a Texan with an I.Q. of 90.

  Please. How about the millions of dollars worth of airlifts the military performed in rescueing people. It's not cheap to operate 300+ helicopters in a massive airlift operation. I'll take a ride in a blackhawk over a bus anyday!

  IS SHUNNING BIBLE-BASED????

  my wife and i watch a movie last night, called "the truth".

  it was about an amish girl who got pregnant and had a child.

  anyway, she was ordered to be shunned by all members for her wrong doing, for six weeks.. this brings up the questions..... is shunning bible-based?.

  The only thing I've seen that slyly supports excommunication is the quotes from Paul where he speaks of not even eating with a person that claims to be christian and what not.

  The problem with the WTS use of Paul's words, is that they use them out of context and add to them. Paul was setting down a priciple for individual christians to follow. The WTS interjects itself into this and tells us how to apply them. It is clear that Paul was advising the individual, on jow he/she should view others. He was not setting down a mandate for a large, multi-national corporation to use. Also, the WTS adds sins to Paul's list. Nowhere does Paul speak of smoking or watching rated R movies. Things that he does speak of, like gluttony, are rarely enforced. When was the last time someone was DFed for being fat?

  A must read!!!! Reminded me of the dub's paradise!

  a recent thread that was started about the dubs view of remarrying in paradise reminded me of a book i read many times in high school.. the giver by lois lowry.

  it's basically about a boy who grows up in a perfect utopian world.

  there's one elderly man who remembers how the real world was and he passes the truth on to the boy.

  I read a book in high school about a society of people who dwelt on rafts. The rafts were all on an underground river, a river which flowed to a paradise. This society of people lived their entire lives in eager anticipation of the day when they would arrive. One day a young man fell of his raft and was left behind. He made his way out of the river and up a path he found. The path led out into light, where he found an entire world. Turns out he had grown up with a group of people who were drifting down a river that flowed in a giant circle. Surprise.

  When he returned to the river, he found a spot to wait. Sure enough, within a few days here came the rafts. Imagine his peoples surprise at finding him. However, when he presented the reality of their situation, they spurned him. This led to him being outcast and thrown off the rafts, back into the river.

  It's always made me think of our lives as JW's.

  SHOULD I PIONEER OR COLLEGE?

  do you think the wt has become more lenient or stricter over the year?.

  i am 21 and i remember just 4 years ago going to college was looked at as something negative.

  girls my age, we had plans to be ft pioneers and become secretaries.

  I am 21 and in my freshman year!

  I'm 28 and in my freshman year. My advice: stay in college. The WTS isn't going to pay your bills for you, and our society doesn't hold secretaries in high demand. You owe it to yourself to get a degree.

  I think 70-80% would drink it. They're already willing to die for the religion with the blood stand. That's the most important hurdle. If the WTS built up to the mass suicide idea over time, through the KM or WT, then scheduled DC's on the same date worldwide it could happen. It also wouldn't be impossible to post members of the Service Department at all exits, with guns, to finish of all the "apostates" who woudn't drink Jehovah's spirit provided Kool-Aid.

  Culmination of personal truth

  as jehovahs witnesses, our lives revolved not around the worlds reality, but our own imposed one.

  sadly this more often than not involved our concept of the future, many times to the neglect of our present.

  since separating ourselves many have discovered to our surprise a buried and suppressed ability to think, reason and act on the results.

  What Doctrines Have Changed?

  i was talking to my father about the awake!

  mag talking about christianity and how their followers were losing faith and trust in the religion because doctrines have changed.

  what was once a sin five yrs ago is no longer a sin.

  To deny you any right to sue them when they DF you. Every major decision they make is legalistic in motivation.

  a friend recently commented to me, that a sister in her congregation had two encounters in field service that caused her embarrassment.

  first, the sister called on a man.

  she was offering the awake magazine on disasters.

  My congregation sent out $30,000, and another congregation that shares the same hall contributed another $40,000.

  How much of that will be used to help actual Katrina victims? How much will be used to help non-JW's in the disastor areas? How much will be used to finance a new Branch office in Belgium?

  Jesus was indiscriminate in his help to others. The JW's tend to help out only their own. Lets not even get started on the fact that they expect their brothers to pay for the help they recieve, in the form of signing over all insurance monies they recieve to the WTS.

  However, when I was at the Astrodome, I did see brothers in there looking for other Witnesses.

  The news coverage of the Astrodome also showed several Scientologist "ministers" there as well.
