Well I'm planning another fly-fishing trip to Colorado this summer, and since I'm so excited thought I'd share my joy. Does anyone else here fly-fish, or vacation in Colorado? Even better, anyone live in Colorado?

Do you consider posting here as "Therapy" for you?
by JH in.
is this place therapy for you, or just a place to mingle?

I love it here. It's the only place in the world where I can openly express my feelings about JW's, and not have people who will listen but also people who understand. It's very hard to talk about this stuff with other people who have never experienced the cult experience. Everybody here understands the lingo, control, and pressure applied by the WTS.
I have to say that it has been VERY therapuatic to post here.

How about a mixed group of JW youth on a camping/canoe trip in the scenic Ozark Mtns. After a long day on the river, including cases of beer and battery powered blender drinks, the group retires to camp to continue drinking. Before long young brothers are puking in the middle of camp, and young, married sisters are openly baring their private parts as they openly urinate.
Oh did I mention that the group included Ministerial Servants, former Bethelites, and Reg. Pioneers? None of whome where ever reproved, but instead were promoted to elderships and sent to Bethel?
JW's gone wild indeed.

Very cool Richie! I'd say most JW youth's are like her. I just wish that when I was a teenager someone had pointed me to the info that's now available. It sure would have saved a lot of lost time.
Keep it up man!

How Much of a Witness Were You?
by prophecor ini knew brothers who would not allow a television in thier house.
you were lucky if you were around any that listened to music.
we would jokingly among older ones talk of going out and pulling our earth wind & fire albums out and taking them for a spin.

What other religion bans TV's and allows alcohol.

Check this out! my first act of "rebellion"...
by freedomlover inwell, not really rebellion but that i've wanted one of these for a long time so i went and did it today, and i love it!
my little sister came out for a visit this weekend and i told her everything about leaving the jw's.
she has pretty much left about 6 months ago when she went away to college.

My wife used to have her nipple pierced, while we were still active dub's. Not as cool as you might think, it hurt her for over a year. I think the belly button is a much safer bet!

update on New Orleans
by stillajwexelder inletter read from rbc - they are looking for elders (ideally with construction experience) to spend 3 months or more down in new orleans - for oversight and construction.
having children and family is not a barrier.
main probelm is combatting and eradicating mould.

Will they be working on all JW homes down there, or just the brothers who have home insurance? Keep it mind that it is standard practice for the WTS to demand the insurance checks from those that they have "helped" rebuild. Since many in New Orleans didn't have home insurance I just wondered........

Whats the dumbest reason youve been counseled?
by avishai inmy friend was counseled for having a bad attitude because he wore white socks w/ his suit.
-

Counseled for a drunken party at a campground, not because we were drunk, but because I was one month from turning 21.
For aux pioneering and not getting my full 60 hours in. (Pioneering sucks!)
Almost counseled over my wife wearing hot-ass dresses to the meetings......they never had the stones on that one. (I think the elders secretly liked her dresses)

Thinking of leaving? Do you have a good Reputation?
by M*A*S*H ini've had an idea, a cruel and malicious idea.
want to hear it?
well, what i'm hoping is we can find someone who's thinking of leaving the jw's, has a relatively good standing in the congo and is a good actor.

My thoughts exactly. Richie has the stones to pull this one off, except I think he's on reproof.

why cant you just leave???
by kid-A inwhat always strikes here on jwd is the number of posters who completely and entirely doubt the jw theology, reject the majority of the teachings and "rules", express their boredom and frustration at having to attend meetings and conventions and yet, still, continue to keep up the facade of attending the meetings, going out in service, essentially choosing to 'live a lie'...... now, i understand fully the complications around leaving such an organization especially concerning family, but, for gods sake people, it would take the most extreme, extraordinary circumstances to keep somebody inside a duplicitous, controlling cult when at any time, you do have the freedom to just walk away.......we are all free moral agents capable of escaping the wts so i humbly ask, .
1) how and why do you keep up the facade?
do your circumstances really justify lying to yourself and family?.

I've done everything but DA myself. I never thought I would take that step, but lately I'm considering it. One, to be true to myself, but also to set an example to all who used to know me. Maybe it will raise some doubt in someone's mind about the WTS. A doubt which someday might blossom into awareness.
Eventually I'll become so disgusted that I'll have to go out in a blaze of glory. It would be interesting to sit down with a judicial tribunal, and challenge them with all the failed prophecies and goofy practices from the past, and record the entire process.
The sad fact though, is that the WTS wields real power over peoples lives. Many JW's live in fear, and their minds dwell in oppression. While they may doubt, the Society has sufficiently insulated their minds from any possibility of a full departure from the "truth."
