I didn't realize that. I thought the whole document was useless without a signature.

I don't remember this part (I shredded my card months ago). I suppose I was so trusting of the Org that I didn't even pay attention.

What exacerbates all of this is that JWs are encouraged to "research" info on blood and blood "fractions" - but only through the Org's publications. So they get the illusion of having made a volntary, informed, balanced, researched decision when they've been doing nothing but reinforcing the indoctrination.

Are you Christmas-retarted?

hi guys, haven't posted in a while, but i don't see this topic covered: is anyone else out there as christmas retarted as me?

i feel so awkward stumbling over the words "merry christmas" to friends.

also, who do you buy for?

This is my first Christmas, too! My workmates are really excited for me.
I got a set of neutral "seasonal" cards for people at work and only gave them to those I really wanted to; I wrote a short personal message to each of them, mentioning their family, pets, whatever. I only bought 2 gifts - since there were only two people I really wanted to give something more to - and made myself stay within a $15 limit for each. I get to work early, so I could put the cards and gifts on everyone's desks before a bunch of people were there and avoid offending those who didn't get anything. I don't feel obliged to go tit-for-tat with the cards.

the only thing that sucked about it was the fact that i had no idea how to wrap a gift... late 20's and i've never wrapped a present before????

Dry Water massage?

how many of you folks have used dry- water massage equipment?.

what kind of location did you use it in?

mall, dr.s office, tanning salon etc?.

I tried one when I went to Florida a couple years ago. I was really stressed at the time and it was a very nice massage. I wish I could afford one.

SWALKER - Give it a shot. They put headphones on you that keep out noise as well as a blindfold. I didn't feel enclosed at all, just very relaxed and completely detached from everything.

Holidays--Fulfillment of a Human Emotional Need

many of us who spent a lot of time in the borg developed a narrow view of holidays as a result of what we were taught.

once i started traveling, thinking for myself, and studying social sciences, i came to the realization that holidays meet a human emotional need.

this is one of the many reasons why i do not hesitate to celebrate holidays.

Holidays reinforce community, family, and social ties. It reminds us of our interconnection with each other. It reinforces our role and importance in our family and society.

I agree very strongly! I didn't realize how much my family missed out on by not celebrating anything until I was out. It struck me - whilst watching a program about Christmas celebration in Europe - how little connectedness my family has and how different things would have been if we'd celebrated something together - even if it was only one holiday once a year.

I Feel At Peace

the last few days i have felt strangely at peace, with life, with my children, and with me.

im wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that i just lost my mother in law.

Blood and sacrifice alternative view point

from the jw point of view as 'christians' they are bound by all the new and some old testament laws.

it would be a farce if they copped out every time things got hard, they might as well have a corporate merger with the catholics.

acts 15:20 clearly states that the new christians that are being recruited should abstain from blood amongst other things.

In Acts 15 in the NWT, the instructions in the letter sent to the congregations was to "keep" abstaining from blood. The word "keep" suggests there was a precedent to which the congregations were to attend. In fact, there was: the Mosaic Law. Those who did not want to offend the sensibilities of the Hebrew Christians could "keep" obeying the Law's injuction on blood. The specific injunction dealt with the consumption of blood as food - and that was only for animals that had been purposely killed for food.(There was no prohibition against consuming the blood of animals that had died of natural causes or from an attack by another animal.) Consumption bears no resemblence to transfusion. You probably already saw all this on that site, though.

And I give blood for the same reason Carla does.

this month i went to a circuit assembly (north/west germany) to spy what is going on and too keep me up to date with teachings and jehovah's witnesses language.

after the assembly was over i just happened to see a father congratulating his child for being baptized.

I saw a program about the same thing: the human brain continues to develop until about 25 years of age, particularly those parts of the brain involved in reasoning and risk-assessment. The program was discussing this in light of the popularity of high-risk sports many young adults participate in, like le parkour.

If I remember correctly, my Dad was baptized at 6. That was nearly 60 years ago.

So were any bible prophecies true?

i'm just wondering to what extent the bible accurately predicted future events?.

when i was a good little jw, i was constantly reassured that we could have confidence in the paradise because the bible always got it's predictions correct since it was inspired by jah, blah, blah.. does anyone know of a good website which critically examines each bible prophecy one by one?

what do real bible scholars with no bias make off all these prophecies?.

I can't vouch for any of their sites, but thought it was interesting that both Yahoo! and Google had entire directory categories devoted to biblical prophcey.

I've personally found The Preterist Archive interesting.
