Why do women make up the majority?
by daniel-p ini want to pose what is to me an interesting question: .
why is there a preponderance of women in religion?
i think we all agree that females do make up the majority of pretty much every religion, including jw's, but why?

Because (most) women are inherently more emotional than men, and religion is an emotion-based activity.

"Deliverance at Hand" District Convention Invitation
by Elsewhere intruthsetsonefree has provided spiritual food at the proper time by emailing me these scans.... this is the little hand-bill invitation for the next district convention that we've been hearing about.
considering the fact that most jws never actually read such things before handing them out, i suspect that many people will be given these things but never actually told when and where the convention will be held!
on the back it says: "the local congregation of jehovahs witnesses invites you to attend the convention that will be held at the time and location shown here.

A few observations about paradise:
1) They're building some sort of building in the back (barracks?). Where did the lumber come from? Are there lumber mills in paradise? Where will the shingles come from?
2) The black woman clearly has straightened hair. Do black folks no longer have to straighten their hair in paradise? Or is straightening one's own hair still something black folks will want to do in paradise?
3) Where do their clothes come from? Are there still sweat shops in paradise?
4) Why are they even wearing clothes anyways? I thought this was supposed to be a restoration of Eden, where no clothes were worn.
5) Looks like the guy is hauling watermellons, grapes, luttuce, some sort of gord, a pear, and a few other unidentifiable items, as well as an orange tree in the background. The climate must be perfect in paradise. If that's the case, what happens to polar ice caps? Will there still be seasons?
6) There's also a farm on the hill in the background. Will farmers still have to spread manure to fertilize the field? If so, that doesn't seem very paradise-like. Are ministerial servants the ones who will be assigned this job, or full-time pioneers?
Things missing:
Cars, roads, electronics of any kind, and anything to do other than build a WTS barracks, pick fruit, or smell flowers.

many successfully sued because of child abuse, blood transfusion, and workers comp issues.

Latest "Remeber When..." JW email floating around
by Jourles innotice how #29 sounds a little apostatish?
shame on them for slipping that one in.. remembering when .
.. 1. when there was a grading system on the written review to indicate how well you did.. 2. when the circuit overseer considered the "continue in the things learned.".

I recently read the book "The World is Flat" and it has a section on organizational change. One of the statements in the book was that when you walk around a company and all you hear is "how it used to be," you know the company is on the decline. This thread reminded me of that.

The Diginty of Atheism
by SickofLies infor centuries, we have been told that without religion we are no more than egotistic animals fighting for our share, our only morality that of a pack of wolves; only religion, it is said, can elevate us to a higher spiritual level.
today, when religion is emerging as the wellspring of murderous violence around the world, assurances that christian or muslim or hindu fundamentalists are only abusing and perverting the noble spiritual messages of their creeds ring increasingly hollow.
what about restoring the dignity of atheism, one of europe's greatest legacies and perhaps our only chance for peace?.

As an atheist, I base my moral views on the concept of natural rights. Each human being, for the simple fact that he/she is a human, has the right to his life, liberty, and property. That is as consistent as it becomes.
In the religious view, what god decides is what is right. God's will makes the laws. God's will turns morality into moral relativism. If god decides to kill off a city of people, then killing people is ok. If he decides that not killing people is the law, then we shouldn't kill people. In my view, the religious view is the relativistic and egotistic moral stand.

Void baptism / contract disaffirmance by a minor

here's a (jstalin) novel legal theory:.

I was looking at the threads today and there are two that are related, in my opinion. Both Richie's possible DA and the thread about void baptism. Here's a (jstalin) novel legal theory:
In law there is a concept called ratification, which applies to minors. It basically means that a minor can enter into a contract, but at any time while he is a minor, he may disaffirm the contract without penalty. In addition, when a minor turns 18, he may decide to ratify the contract, or not. In other words, minors cannot be bound by contracts. In my opinion, JW baptism could be considered a contract. A JW decides that in exchange for being baptised, he/she will follow the rules of the WTS, including agreeing that he/she should be shunned in the event of a DA or DF. However, in my amateur armchair legal opinion, a minor (Richie) could make the argument that his baptism was a contract entered into as a minor, therefore, the contract is voidable at any time while he is a minor - as though the contract was never entered into.
