Active JW Apologists: Did you take the OATH at the Convention?
by kid-A ininquiring minds want to know: how did respond to oath # 7 which all jws were required to take at the latest dc?
"we will resist with all our strength the spirit of the world manifested in such things as materialism, unwholesome entertainment, overindulgence in food and alcoholic beverages, the plague of pornographic material and the curiosity or temptation that lures one into association with outsiders through internet chat rooms.
our resolve is to be no part of world as we carry on worship that is clean from the standpoint of our god.

for atheists/agnostics
by BlackSwan of Memphis inhow did you get to the point where you are at now?
was it primarily new information that made you rethink religion and god?
learning about the ice age, the universe, the fossils out there?

I think the one event that jolted me most toward the parth of atheism was reading Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. The speech by the main character, John Gault, contains a phrase that brought it home for me: "A is A." His point is that there is an objective reality, and in reality, the A is A. In a world with a interfering god, A is not necessarily A and objective reality cannot be determined. A can be anything god wants it to be. God can make A the same as B, if he wants. Therefore, if we are to believe there is a world around us, there can't be a god.
I'm not sure if this is making sense. I can't put it as well as Rand.

I don't think he did it. From what I'm reading, he appears to be a nutcase pedophile. They are saying he has been interested in writing about child killers for some time and that he was researching this case as well. Chances are that he has more knowledge about what happened than the average person, so he probably can sound convincing when "confessing" about his involvement. From what I'm reading, his famly is saying that he was never in Boulder.
I think he's a wingnut.

I take it you don't speak with your sister? She needs someone to talk to right now, assuming the accusation is correct. Someone who's not going to judge her as evil or abnormal.

Ok, I have to turn jerk mode back on.
Is getting your girlfriend pregnant (at what appears to be an early age) really just a mistake? Spelling and grammar do certainly give an indication of education level and intelligence (although I will admit that it isn't always the case, but they are good indicators). So, a young guy that looks like he doesn't have a the greatest education in the world, therefore unlikely to be able to financially deal with the consequences of his actions, simply committed a mistake? I would call the situation a serious error in judgment, not a mistake.
With that being said:
Shaun - some advice. You're old enough to make kids, so you're old enough to deal with the situation as an adult. You need to talk to your girlfriend and her parents, assert your parental rights, and build your family with your girlfriend, not her parents dictating what your life will be.

Article about HIV
by Moomin induring one of my book studies, the subject of hiv came up.
i was told that if a brother or sister was infected with the virus then they should humbly accept the fact that some people may not want them in their homes.
so anyone with the virus will be able to attend meetings at the kh but not the book study or any social gatherings.

There has yet to be a documented case of anyone getting HIV from mouth to mouth resuscitation:

In short, the WT made that story up.

Experiences the WTS does not want you to hear at the Assembly!!!
by thepackage inyou know how on the last day of a district assembly the chairman always give these great experiences about how the dubs that attended the assembly had great spiritual experiences while at dinner or at the hotel.
well, hears one you will not hear.
for about five straight years, a friend of mine (whose father was a jerk elder who thought anybody who drank should be df) would leave the assembly at lunchtime each day, go to a bar near the convention, and get drunk out of his mind!!!

Wouldn't it be great to find that nun today and get her testimony on her experience as a JW? That's probably why they don't publish names in those Watchtower articles - so you can't follow up or verify anything!

Agnostic or Atheist?
by done4good infor all of you non-religionists out there: do you consider yourself an agnostic or atheist, and why?
it seems many ex-jws that "loose the faith" have a tendency to go straight for atheism.
i myself, would consider myself more of an agnostic, as i believe we have no real way of knowing if there is a god one way or the other, and it tends to seem just as extreme to me, to insist that there is not one.

I used to be an agnostic, but the arguments for atheism are too compelling. Check out this little book (Atheism: a very short introduction):
It convinced me that I'm really an atheist and not agnostic.

Advice on flying appreciated! (Prayers welcome also!) :0)

Because of the current situation in the UK, don't bring any liquids with you in a carry-on bag. You can bring all the liquids you want as long as they are in the baggage you check at the ticket counter. You can bring your purse as a carry-on, just forget your nail clippers and anything sharp. Books and magazines are fine to bring with you.
Remember that the xray machine for checked baggage will ruin camera film, so don't put that in your checked baggage.
