  Some one broke in my house yesterday

  there's this guy who i used to be friends with who thought that the only reason my kids loved me was because i rewarded them.

  of course, i had to prove him wrong.

  last friday i heard him talking to some people that he was going to break into my house and kill a few of my kids as well as trash the house.

  so what does everyone think about this whole human cloning thing our intreped scientists recently accomplished?

  i haven't read up enough and discussed enough to formulate a rock solid opinion on all the ins and outs of the whole issue, and i like to have rock solid opinions on just about everything (but i don't push my views on anyone or consider opposing views "wrong," that's something else i have a strong opinion about).

  I thought long and hard as to what to use for a username and finally decided to name myself after the rap musician Chuck D. The funny thing is, my real name is Chuck and my last name (Doherty) begins with a "D", so the username just happened to be quite similar to my real one. What a coincidence!

  I have never used any other persona here on on any other board inhabated by ex-dubs, although I did go under another name on witness.net, where I adopted the name Randall P. McMurphy. You probably know that was the name of the main character in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", but no one there picked up on that.

  let me tell you a story.

  i have a wonderful 18 year old son who is almost as smart as he thinks he is.

  he is currently a freshman at northeastern university in boston, in their engineering program.

  He always had a strong natural talent for math, and was interested in it from an early age. He also was drawn toward geometric patterns, and as a kid he enjoyed playing with a Spirograph (remember those?) making complex patterns of one type or another. That remains one of the greatest toys for kids, along with an etch-a-sketch which has the unfortunate drawback of making illustrations of breasts look square.

  When he was young, I taught him how to program a bit on my old Apple II computer, and he was a natural at it. From there, he took off. Now, he writes far better code than I do, and when when he is not at school he works as one of the technical leads at www.vineyard.net.

  The impending end of the universe was a concern for me when it came to a choice of schools, but he opted for the five-year rather than the optional 3-billion year engineering program, so I hope that he will see some return on his time invested before it all goes dark.
